Personality:Kio has always been quiet and respectful, even at a young age. He was taught proper etiquette at a young age and has never strayed from the basic principles of being civil and polite at all times. Many would consider him to be cold or distant, but he is simply selective in his company and has never had much time for basic companionship. His training to become a samurai started at a young age and this always separated him from other children his age. Once he warms up, he is still quiet, but he tends to smile a bit more and the chill drops from his voice. He enjoys quiet time alone but also knows the value of having a friendly face to talk with on cold nights. He believes the elderly deserve the utmost respect and care and will often sit and listen to those his elder, gleaning wisdom from their words at every opportunity. He does not have much experience around children and will freeze up around them, seeing them as a completely foreign entity in his world, especially if they try to play with him. Around those he finds himself attracted to, he will do his best to show his interest but will still remain polite, believing crudeness is unattractive and rude.

Likes:

• Reading – Kio likes sitting down with books, especially those pertaining to history or tactics. He believes the mind is just as important as the body to keep sharp.
  
• Tea – Kio finds tea to be a nectar from the gods and good for any occasion and time of day.
  
• Kata – Kio enjoys going through various kata to refine and hone his body. He finds himself at peace as he moves through the familiar motions, whether with his blade or without.

• Crudeness – Being taught from a young age to always be polite, rude, crude behavior angers him.
  
• Conquering – Although from Kou, he disagrees with the act of taking over other societies and forcing them into submission, as each group of people hold their own unique contribution to the world.
  
• Oppression – Kio finds the act of oppressing people a despicable act and cannot abide those that do it.
  

Aspirations: Kio aspires to end the tyrannical rule of the Kou empire as it sweeps across the world. He despises the actions of his Emperor and his mindless, singular need to expand to every corner of the globe. While he appreciates his own culture, the idea that other cultures would be wiped out hurts his soul and he would do anything to stop it. Through careful training and placement, he is slowly working his way into a position to be able to achieve this, though he knows it may still take years to accomplish it.

Phobias/fears: Kio is terrified of deep bodies of water. Never having learned how to swim, any body of water deep enough to fully immerse him puts him into a state of panic. While he is capable of being on ships to cross the sea, he will not go near the edges of the ship for fear of falling in. He does enjoy hot springs, as long as his feet can still touch the bottom and keep his head above the water line.

Appearance: Kio is tall and thin with a finely muscled body. No bulging muscles can be seen and he is often mistaken for weak due to how thin he is. He can generally be found wearing basic Kou attire, finding the freedom of movement necessary for his skills. His hair is typically tied back and falls past his waist in a dark sheet. The front portion of his hair is shorter and falls to his chin. His purple eyes often seem emotionless but warm to a deep violet when he gives a genuine smile. His haori is generally black or has dark colors. His movements are always purposeful and full of intent and he will rarely if ever be seen fidgeting, as he does not believe in wasting energy. The sash worn around his waist doubles as bandages in times of need. He wears plain wooden sandals, as is typical from his home country.

Special Traits: Scars litter his body from years of training and combat and on his back is a small Sakura blossom scarred into his skin, the symbol his sensei always used.

History: Kioshi comes from a small clan of samurai in Kou. He was raised in the ways of the samurai from a very young age and all in their clan were marked by a small Sakura scar somewhere on their body. His childhood was full of training, from martial arts to etiquette, history to dancing. He was taught to blend in and protect his charge at whatever the cost, even if it meant his life. He received his katana at the age of 14 and was formally trained in its use until he had mastered the blade. At 16, he was sent to the capital of Kou to begin his duties guarding nobles until he eventually became a guard of one of the numerous children of the Emperor. Through his duties, he saw the gross misuse of the Emperor’s power and found himself disgusted by the conquering antics of the paranoid man. He had been taught to value and cherish all cultures because of what they offered the world and what he could learn and the destruction of so many unique cultures made him sick to his stomach.

By the age of 20, he knew that he had to find some way to end the tyranny of the Emperor, but knew he could not discuss this with anyone in his country. The paranoia of the Emperor ensured there were rarely secrets, as anyone could betray the trust he had placed in them to avoid execution. Biding his time, he made a name for himself as being a trustworthy man that was vicious in his duty of protection, which granted him access to more and more delicate information. When it was announced the Kou had taken over Reim and was currently planning on reinforcing the troops already in the foreign country, he managed to find a way to get assigned to the group being sent to the country so that he could gain more information. Arriving in Reim, he could see the beginning stages of Kou’s influence in the land and that feeling of disgust made itself known once more. Reim had a glorious and intricate culture that he could not stand to see destroyed. Finding the resolve in himself, finally, to act on his distaste, Kio has just begun his search to find those that would help him to remove Kou from Reim and possibly even assist him in ending the Emperor, once and for all.


Role-Play Sample: Taking a deep breath, Kio slipped into the next stance of his kata, his katana blade held with perfect balance in front of him. The wind tugged at his hair as he moved into the next stance, creating an enticing silhouette. When the sound of steps was heard, Kioshi let his blade lower before sheathing it, hurrying to tug the outer layers of his haori back on. His sensei emerged from the shadows and offered the slightest of bows before waving the willowy teenager over to sit for tea.

Kio knelt in front of the tray with the tea pot, resting back on his heels in the customary fashion and picking up the steaming cup to take a sip. He and his sensei sat in a companionable silence, sipping tea and enjoying the slight breeze that was causing Sakura petals to cascade around them. The presence of Kioshi’s mother in the background made him raise an eyebrow, silently asking for dismissal, which his sensei granted with a nod. Carefully pushing to his feet, Kioshi made his way over to the delicate woman, his mother brushing some stray strands of hair back from his forehead. It was not until they had walked away from the training ground that a smile split across his face, his voice animated as he told his mother about his training and advancement.
