The elder magician who decided rather late in his life to become a teacher and sculptor of the next generation is about the be sculpted himself. In his time spent since he got his memories taken and even more so in his time on Kina, the spellcaster had found himself relying a lot on his physical body and close range combat. Now he had some experience in physical combat due to his past but that was not fighting so much as relying on a quick and single strike to kill a target. On top of that his physique is not one that is suited for the art of assassination anymore, at least not without his magic. If he wanted to improve and become a good teacher and defender of Kina he would have to train his body and mind to a way of fighting he was not experienced with. That more befitting of a warrior.

He was in the newly established Silver Institute that he had created to educate people in any manner of life that they choose. He was thinking on the best path to take in order to accomplish the training and education that he was wanting for himself. The options he had was to find a teacher here that could train him, which wouldn't be difficult but he would be limited in fighting style, or find a master rather well known or a hidden master but he would still face the limitations of a singular aspect of fighting. No, neither of these more traditional options would suffice for the elderly gentleman.

He would end up calling in his two students trained specifically in the art of sumo wrestling to the open spaced dojo that occupied a large amount of space in the learning institution. They were both young still but showed great promise in the world that was sumo. El and Shou were both equals for the most part, with Shou barely beating the larger foreigner in their first bout. Shou had even made it high enough to face Kenny, the current Yokozuna of Kina. He had turned it into a draw but even that was a significant feat for a sumo. Accompanying them was Terao, a veteran sumo who was second only to Kenny the Yokozuna. He was experienced and had an impressive track record for being a sturdy defender of sumo.

Together, these three would spend the next couple of months training Silva in the way of a sumo. The elderly man knew what sumo is and how to do it from the point of view of a teacher but he has never actually attempted the sport himself. He was training in this simply because it would give him a good sense of balance but also several move sets that would work for his larger physique when in combat mode. Sumo is meant to stay off the ground but also use powerful, slaps and throws to upheave their opponents. Since Silva is currently focused on a stance of non life taking this was a good fit for him.

For 2 months the trio would drill into the older man, the basics of sumo. There was little to no reason to show him more advanced techniques since sumo didn't rely heavily on those and he would learn through time and experience anyways.

After they had felt that he had learned how to handle what they taught they would leave only to be replaced by the two twin samurai, Nobu and Naga. They were still far off from being considered to be masters but they were trained in the way of swordsmanship of the samurai and as such Silva was confident in learning from them. These two did not stand out as much as the others in the institution but they were just as talented as the others. Perhaps more so when it came to combat more suited for warfare and battles.

Silva would take up a wooden sword and watch the moves that the twins would perform. They would have him working on just a basic swing for starters. Raise blade, step, then downward slice. He has to repeat this for a week straight, nothing but hundreds of not thousands of sword swings.

The next week they would begin to work on sideward and upward swings. these were similar in concept to downward but quite a bit more difficult since you don't have the slight force of gravity bringing the blade down. Next they would begin to mix in the series of swings and even thrusts together until they slowly became a solid, continuous, fluid motion. It would be like a sword of dance with the blade almost.

Then the last couple of weeks would be spent in sparring with the twins. This was to better understand the sequence of moves and how to integrate them fluidly and without any clunkiness. Slowly but surely the style that the twins practiced, as well as the basics of the sword were being ingrained into the body that Silva was so proud of.

Now after months of hard grueling work Silva was able to use both styles of combat when suited. He was far from skilled or being a master at either but he was confident that he would eventually become proficient in melee and unarmed combat. Sumo would be a good form of unarmed combat, working on laying out enemies and subduing them if he leads and adds a few holds from other fighting styles. Then the sword will be a stable and reliable weapon, even when using a sturdy wooden blade.

For about a month longer he would train using both styles that he had been taught by his students and friends. By the end of this he had felt like he had a firm understanding of the base principles of the two styles simply at their most basic level.

After that he would take a break from training for a week or two. Simply taking time to enjoy the island of Kina and all that it held. All that he was now expected to protect.
