The sash worn around his waist doubles as bandages in times of need. He wears plain wooden sandals, as is typical from his home country.

History: Kioshi comes from a small clan of samurai in Kou. He was raised in the ways of the samurai from a very young age and all in their clan were marked by a small Sakura scar somewhere on their body. His childhood was full of training, from martial arts to etiquette, history to dancing. He was taught to blend in and protect his charge at whatever the cost, even if it meant his life. He received his katana at the age of 14 and was formally trained in its use until he had mastered the blade. At 16, he was sent to the capital of Kou to begin his duties guarding nobles until he eventually became a guard of one of the numerous children of the Emperor. Through his duties, he saw the gross misuse of the Emperor’s power and found himself disgusted by the conquering antics of the paranoid man. He had been taught to value and cherish all cultures because of what they offered the world and what he could learn and the destruction of so many unique cultures made him sick to his stomach.

By the age of 20, he knew that he had to find some way to end the tyranny of the Emperor, but knew he could not discuss this with anyone in his country. The paranoia of the Emperor ensured there were rarely secrets, as anyone could betray the trust he had placed in them to avoid execution. Biding his time, he made a name for himself as being a trustworthy man that was vicious in his duty of protection, which granted him access to more and more delicate information. When it was announced the Kou had taken over Reim and was currently planning on reinforcing the troops already in the foreign country, he managed to find a way to get assigned to the group being sent to the country so that he could gain more information. Arriving in Reim, he could see the beginning stages of Kou’s influence in the land and that feeling of disgust made itself known once more. Reim had a glorious and intricate culture that he could not stand to see destroyed. Finding the resolve in himself, finally, to act on his distaste, Kio has just begun his search to find those that would help him to remove Kou from Reim and possibly even assist him in ending the Emperor, once and for all.


Role-Play Sample: Taking a deep breath, Kio slipped into the next stance of his kata, his katana blade held with perfect balance in front of him. The wind tugged at his hair as he moved into the next stance, creating an enticing silhouette. When the sound of steps was heard, Kioshi let his blade lower before sheathing it, hurrying to tug the outer layers of his haori back on. His sensei emerged from the shadows and offered the slightest of bows before waving the willowy teenager over to sit for tea.

Kio knelt in front of the tray with the tea pot, resting back on his heels in the customary fashion and picking up the steaming cup to take a sip. He and his sensei sat in a companionable silence, sipping tea and enjoying the slight breeze that was causing Sakura petals to cascade around them. The presence of Kioshi’s mother in the background made him raise an eyebrow, silently asking for dismissal, which his sensei granted with a nod. Carefully pushing to his feet, Kioshi made his way over to the delicate woman, his mother brushing some stray strands of hair back from his forehead. It was not until they had walked away from the training ground that a smile split across his face, his voice animated as he told his mother about his training and advancement.
