β-Tier

Needed damage to take down: 3 C-tier
Abilities: This swift fighter moves at a base speed of 7m/s and 10m/s when sprinting. He carries an old but reliable sword loaned out by the coliseum capable of dealing C-tier cutting damage each blow. He is known for being an evasive counter fighter and can anticipate incoming attack trajectories with his years of skill and experience.

Steadfast Hold ~ A firm defensive stance followed by a striking movement made with the user's shield at 15m/s. This strike aims to clash with an incoming attack before batting it away parrying its trajectory safely away from the user. Capable of blocking up to 1 B-tier ability within a 3m range.

Sliding Board ~ The user anticipates an incoming attack and raises their shield to block it. The user then turns the shield and moves behind it as they allow the attack to slide off the shield harmlessly. The movement to position the shield occurs at a speed of 10m/s and it can be used within a 3m range blocking up to 1 C-tier ability.

Forward Cleave ~ The user leaps forwards up to 10m away from his starting position and slashes violently with his sword in a dowards blow. The slash moves at a speed of 15m/s and the leap 10m/s. If the strike succeeds it will do B-tier cutting damage.

Kioshi waited calmly for his match to be announced, his cool demeanor blocking out the rowdy calls through the training room. While he was not a fan of fighting for sport, he needed a way to pay for the small house he was using for the stray animals and it would be a good opportunity to keep himself sharp for his duties guarding his charge. He kept the thought of the animals in his head as he prepared by meditating. Fighting for sport was not something he had ever done before, all of his combat being from training or a legitimate need to inflict damage to a person. His mind wandered briefly to Bianca, thinking about how the healer might react to him doing something as senseless as this, but he brushed the thoughts away. He could not afford to be distracted, even by thoughts of a beautiful, friendly woman.

He shook his head, returning to a deep breathing exercise as he thought about his match. It seemed he would be fighting a regular in the Coliseum by the name of Rufi. He was often used to test new contestants to the arena because of his incredible survival rate. Every person in the room had fought the Coliseum veteran, some winning, some losing. But, it was a good way to gauge what types of match people were most suited for.

When it was time for him to enter the arena, no signs of nervousness showed, his face steeled as he stepped before the crowd. They cheered when Rufi entered at the other end of the field, his popularity quite obvious. The old man wasted no time once the fight began, moving forward slowly with his shield held in front of him, trying to gauge Kioshi. Kioshi allowed his advance until he was a bit closer, knowing he needed skill and speed if he intended to defeat this man. When Rufi came within 10 meters, Kioshi shot forward with hardly any warning, using Stunning Speed to arrive at the side of the other fighters, using his sword to deal a basic slash at the man. Rufi responded with Sliding Board, using his shield to block the attack. Kioshi showed no reaction, now having a better idea of what to expect from his opponent. Kioshi spun so he did not have the man at his back, using careful steps to keep Rufi in his sights.

Rufi chuckled at Kioshi, amused by the man’s cautious nature. Kioshi ignored the chuckle and the boo from the crowd, his focus solely on his opponent and his own movements. Kioshi came within striking range of Rufi and tried to use Stunning Blow but Rufi blocked it with Steadfast Hold. Kioshi became something close to irritated, but immediately squelched the emotion to keep himself focused. He moved back from Rufi with steady steps, trying to put some distance between them as he considered his next move. He did not expect Rufi to come launching at him with Forward Cleave. Kioshi tried to use Deflection but he was not able to completely redirect the attack and Rufi’s blade glanced off of his arm, leaving a deep cut.

Kioshi hid the look of pain on his face, returning to a ready stance as he gathered his bearings. He needed to find a way to get rid of the other man’s shield if he hoped to inflict any serious damage. He moved forward with another testing strike at the man, Rufi simply raising the shield to block the attack, Kioshi’s katana sliding off the wood. The man almost seemed clairvoyant with his ability to detect and judge incoming attacks. Kioshi looked at the shield again, considering his options. He never stopped moving his feet, knowing a stationary target was much easier to hit than a moving one. His hair fluttered with the breeze, strands escaping the tie he had used to secure it. The crowd did not seem pleased by the fight, groans of disappointment ringing through the crowd and Kioshi remembered why he disliked fighting for sport. The crowd was here only to see the blood shed from a good fight.

An idea bloomed in Kioshi’s head and he hefted his katana experimentally, trying to cement the execution of his planned move in his head. When Rufi moved his shield to the side to strike out at him, Kioshi twisted slightly before moving his sword quickly, driving the hilt of his katana into the wrist of the hand holding Rufi’s shield. Rufi gave a soft sound of exclamation as Kioshi’s Disarm struck home, the wooden shield flying several meters away and leaving the veteran without it to use as a defense. A tiny lift of his lips was the only sign that Kioshi was pleased the technique had worked. He used Rufi’s surprise to his advantage, using Swift Strike to draw blood on the veteran. As Rufi began to steel himself to the attack, Kioshi followed that with Slicing Petals, the varying angles of his blade keeping Rufi off guard enough to deal more damage.

Rufi gave a soft laugh, impressed Kioshi had managed to land a couple of moves on him, raising his weapon to slash towards Kioshi. Kioshi met the blade with his own, the weapons scraping against each other. Rufi hopped back, trying to get closer to his shield, but Kioshi used Swift Step to intercept the veteran, delivering another strike with his blade. Rufi grunted, knowing he would not likely win the match at this point, the eerily calm Kioshi matching and exceeding him in skill. Rufi attempted to throw a punch at him, but Kioshi was very suited in hand combat, ducking to avoid it before twisting to deliver another careful slash to Rufi’s arm.

Rufi grunted at the damage to his arm, it was getting harder to hold the blade. When Kioshi twisted to prepare another strike, Rufi used the last of his strength to jab his sword into Kioshi’s buttock. Kioshi’s eyes flared in pain but he followed through with his previously attempted attack, his katana coming out to deliver a horizontal slash to the veteran, who stumbled to the direct, calling out his loss before Kioshi could deal more damage. When the fight was declared in Kioshi’s favor, he limped over to Rufi, offering the man a hand up even as blood dripped from his backside. It had been a good fight and Rufi was a fair fighter, obviously talented. Kioshi was frightened to think of what kind of damage the man would be capable of with a decent blade.
