The professors began to openly disapprove of Ariel’s leniency for attending classes. They began to crack down on him, ordering the black magician to prepare himself. They threatened failure if he did not begin listening to their countless, boring lectures. They pestered him from all sides. They used practically every argument in the book. Generally, their arguments often brought up his status as a 3rd Kodor into the mixture. He realized Magnostadt recently inducted new professors, but many of them worked at Magnostadt Academy for years. They knew better than anyone else Ariel, if he so chose to, could pass the 2nd Kodor and sweep the competition off their feet. And from past experience, they ought to have figured by now Ariel would not attend the stupid kodor exams! That did not seem to stop his professors from ranting about exams, failures, his future, etc. It honestly wore on him. Someday, he promised he would exact his revenge. Someday.

For now, Schwartz was bothering him. Ariel absolutely refused to allow the white magician a fraction of his time. He dodged Schwartz desperately. If there was one person who might convince Ariel to attend his classes and pass the Kodor exam, it was Schwartz. And lately, the persistence he followed after Ariel had increased. Any encounter, he promptly escaped before Schwartz could place a word in with him. Even if the white magician forgot to nag him about the 2nd Kodor Exam, it meant he needed a favor or a mission. The idea sounded distasteful. He quite disliked performing jobs for Schwartz. Since when did that bastard order him around? Although Schwartz’s jobs were currently his only source of income, so he supposed he'd be better off thankful for the odd jobs rather than angry. Even so, he wish Schwartz would leave him be for once!

He swung himself onto the highest, sturdy branch he could find. He carefully pulled himself up to a sitting position, keeping his head low. The reason could be figured out by glancing at Ariel unruly, wood and leaf filled hair. He ran his fingers through his tangled hair again, attempting to free the branches and leaves from his monster of hair. He remained quiet, extremely aware of someone who Ariel really didn't want to encounter just below the tree. He gripped his ledge, fearful of tipping off and equally fearful of being discovered. He breathed in sharply, playing with his hair tie, a ribbon rather. He gasped as the ribbon slipped his fingers. By some unfortunate amount of fortune, the ribbon landed on the outline of a head. Shit. He watched nervously as Schwartz grasped the ribbon and inspected it. Then the bastard glanced up.

“Ariel?” Well damn. Schwartz spotted him among the branches. "Ariel! There you are! Won’t you get down from there?”

“No. I rather like it up here.”

“Well then I suppose I’ll have to yell!”

Ariel grimaced. He climbed carefully out of the tree. He dropped. He collided into the body beneath him on purpose. He hopped off the body. He glanced behind him. He quietly hoped the bastard had sustained some bruises. He rushed off again, not wanting to deal with the other. He barely accounted for the fact Schwartz ran faster than Ariel. That, and flight spells were a thing.

“Ariel! Stop running! Seriously! I need your advice!” Schwartz yelled into the wind. Ariel muttered something about smelling a trap. Yet, much to Schwartz’s surprise and relief, the dodging black magician paused. He turned and glared at Schwartz. Sharply, he demanded what Schwartz needed.

“Well, lately the students have been really cranky - your level of crankiness - and one of you is already too much for us. Now we have thousands of you! What are we to do?” He asked.

Ariel rolled his eyes and suggested, “Don't be so dramatic. Why not take them through the city or the Plains or something. Give them a break if they’re driving you guys crazy. But honestly, this isn't my problem, so why are you asking me?”

“Why else? Because it is your problem: you're organizing it.”

“Wait, what!?”

And that was how Ariel found himself chasing after the younger students, trying to wrangle them together, afraid to lose sight of them.
