Job:

When Ariel had spotted older and younger children speeding through the streets with iron daggers in their hands, he knew something was up. Children generally hung out with kids their age. Such an age gap of children running together was somewhat strange and unlikely. He couldn't understand why any child would have a dagger in their hand, unless to harm another person. After all, that was what daggers were made to do. He couldn't figure out whose bright idea it was to give children daggers, but that was only a small portion of the larger problem: where in the world were their parents?

He mused upon the probability of mistreatment causing children to flee from their arduous parents in the poor community. That possibility could explain why no adults were searching for lost children. However, the adults, trying to avoid a commotion, could be searching discreetly and without Ariel's notice. Entirely plausible but it was a theory he would need to develop further. He also needed to take into consideration that the children were running with knives around the city. Something felt extremely off and he could pinpoint it to be related to the fact that children were speeding through the dirty streets instead of trying to get off them.

He was tempted to chase after the children, regardless of what the situation presumably was, but decided against it when he recalled the weapons in their hands. He was disappointed when he logically decided to abandon the rash idea of pursuing the group of grimy boys. However, fearing the possibility of chasing off the children, he forced himself to hesitate and deliberate upon his next action. Recalling the suspicion of the inhabitants of Heliohapt concerning magicians, he warily slithered around a clay building obviously in need of repair. He was somewhat frightened of the prospect of the unstable building collapsing as he leaned against it. Returning to his dubious thoughts, the black magician wondered if his wisest course of action was to gather intellect before he acted upon a conclusion.

Angry shouting interrupted his train of thoughts, resulting in a minor headache for the sensitive magician. The suddenness surprised him and he flinched at it, uncomfortable with the headache thumping feverently in his head. He twitched in annoyance, finding all the screaming both pointless and so damn loud! He resisted revealing himself and snapping at the pair to shut up. Trying to ignore the irritation in his head, he attempted to focus on the conversation itself. Carefully picking through the words, his mind attempted to unravel each sound and match them with a correlative word. He sorted through the possibilities and analyzed his results carefully. Furrowing his brow, he discovered that none of his conclusions made an ounce of sense. With a sigh, he withdrew his ears from the loud, muddled conversation and continued his exploration around the broken city that held so many terrible memories.

Heliohapt had changed since he had last toiled under the blazing, golden orb, which commanded the azure sky. But inspecting the active streets, the recognizable shadows brought dark memories. Though the stones were decorated differently, their presence reminded him of the longing glances he had thrown at them as a child. The buildings glaring defiantly in his memory, taunting him, just barely out of his reach. The laughter of the elites partying frivolously had flowed out of the stones as a way to mock and tempt him. Pitiless eyes would flit towards the child and smile cruelly. They would turn back to the crowd and offer a joke at his expense and several eyes would inspect the slave boy as its' owners laughed. Then he would turn his head away in embarrassment and plow on, working without stop, his eyes shining with anger.

He discovered that his feet had led him mysteriously to the door of a familiar couple. The magician smiled ruefully as he recalled his encounter with the witch who preferred black. That woman had creeped him out and he had been eager to knock her out, so as not to have to deal with her hawkish eyes any longer. It came as a relief to him that he had seen neither woman or man or child. He was sure he would have been unfit to deal with any of them. He was unsure how they would react to him and he feared it would not be pleasant. People outside of Magnostadt would sometimes regard him with suspicion because of his race. His connection with the rukh was uncanny and not only did white rukh enjoy his presence, but despite hiding themselves, Ariel could sense the black rukh lingering around him. What they wanted from him, he knew not.

Perhaps he should not have been quick to decide. He should have known better - his luck was terrible. As he stared at the door, it swung open, much to his surprise. He stumbled back and stared at the man in the doorway like that of a caught criminal. He felt his panic begin to gripe him and tug him under its tumultuous waves. As silence reigned among the two men and they gaped in wonder, Ariel searched for a reasonable excuse as to why he had been staring at the other's house. Fortunately, the awkward silence was broken by an offer to enter the other man's house. Warily, the hazel eyed magician accepted the invitation, though he observed for any falseness or trickery. Especially unsure, Ariel offered the other a fragile smile and entered through the doorway. He shot a glance back at the older man, his mistrust obvious. The married man nodded slightly, effectively confusing Ariel. But as he drew his eyes forwards, he was greeted with a contrite smile.

"What is going on?" Ariel demanded, realizing the couple must have been preparing to search for him.

He was answered with a long, boring explanation. From what Ariel could surmise, their child had joined a gang and they were asking him to bring the kid home. Suddenly, Ariel realized what those children had been. Oh how stupid he had been! Of course! That explained everything! With a groan, he immediately flew out of the house, prepared to search the whole city for the gang if need me. His determination was obvious in his hazel eyes. Ariel prepared to leave no stone unturned if it meant he might find the children again. Knocking some sense into them also sounded temping...

When Ariel tracked the children down, not only was he terribly pissed off, it was beginning to get dark. The sun was strong quickly and Ariel wanted to finish the whole ordeal quickly - without a bunch of foolish children resisting. The dark haired man glared fiercely at the mess being caused by a bunch of rambunctious, raiding teenagers. He sighed, a great headache coming from both his exhaustion and the screaming of the people. If the troublesome boys had been aware of the irritated magician's ill intent of murdering them and butchering them one by one, they probably would have run without hesitation.

Ariel's headaches had become annoyingly more frequent visitors, effectively darkening Ariel's mood for the past week. His sensitivity to noise had begun when he first discovered his ease with sound magic. Because of this, he connected his increased sensitivity to noise due to his meddling with the sound waves around him. He deeply regretted doing so and wished he had just stool with his gravity magic. Too bad for him. What had been done was done and it wasn't like he could change a decision from the past. Oh how he wish he could and how useful such an ability could have been, but there were some things he could only appreciate from afar.

A spiral of black light shocked an unsuspecting boy. Multiple eyes slid to the perpetrator. A mere glimpse of the criminal frightened many of the ganging teenagers. Before they could encounter the murderous magician's rage, most of them agreed they far rather be labeled as cowards than face the fury of the angry magician. However, the bulkiest and perhaps the most foolish three glared at the enemy in defiance. Ariel, not in the mood of dealing with the children, shoved a great deal of magoi in his attack. The familiar movements of swishing his staff in an '+' pattern came naturally and without thought. The very force which jerked his movements was far more exaggerated than usual.

They seemed quite foolish. Not understanding the potential of a magician, they had underestimated him. Now as two of them soared through the air, Ariel couldn't help but face palm as the remaining teenager taunted him endlessly. If the kid was trying to piss him off, he was doing a pretty swell job of it. As it was, a greater headache was forming and he wondered why he could not huddle in misery. The pain in his mind throbbed constantly, a further incite to finish the fight once in for all.

He prepared his staff for another round of flying, gravity defying orbs. He was caught off guard by the flurry of slashes heading his way. Suddenly he was quite relieved he possessed an iron staff. As quickly as he could, he attempted to parry each attack. But Ariel was a magician, not a warrior. He was inexperienced with such a skill and to be expected, his movements were clumsy and off beat. He wasn't quick enough to keep up with the teenager's pace. As a result, despite all of Ariel's attempts to dodge and block the strikes, the teen managed to land a cut on Ariel's cheek.

Ariel shot a glare at the teen, annoyed that the other had landed a hit on him. Too impatient to finish their little fight, Ariel spun around and brought his staff on his opponent's head. The boy stumbled back, where Ariel approached him with a furious glare. Without another spare moment, Ariel flicked his staff towards the boy, effectively knocking the kid out.
