Light reflected off the palace, the sun hung high in the sky. Things had been rather tranquil, which was strange considering the country was at war with itself. The internal affairs of the palace didn't mean much to the stalwart guards. They stood unwavering, seemingly statues. A ray of heat beamed on them, it was a rather warm day, especially for the winter. The status quo was never permanent though, the palace guards themselves knew this quite well. They had seen throughout their work a change of power, they had witnessed when the Tyrant Gao was seemingly reborn.. The war, had seen constant wavering between both sides, as it raged on the world around it changed. Spring wasn't far off, the snow in most areas was starting to melt away.
The change of pace was pleasant. Yoshiro was present in the palace, many of the guards that were present felt relieved to not be at battle. For the most part their duty was their life, but to most the raging civil war was weathering away at their souls. However they valiantly would perform any task set before them. Even now, during a peaceful moment the palace guards were on full alert. Some would even say that they were overstaffed. Four soldiers stood at the ready at the gate, keeping a keen on despite the blinding sun. More were stationed beyond the entrance, lined in rows on the way to the mighty building. even more would be patrolling on the inside. The current protectors had been out for hours though, since early morning. Soon it would be time for a swap.
A loud creak could be heard throughout the area. The massive gate had opened, two of the men out front would enter. They would go to the back of the castle and send out four guards to take their place. While they were doing this the two out front would guard the gate. An iron tight schedule is what kept the castle protected, two people wouldn't seem like, but it was the start of the next shift. It would allow them to have some form of protection, while the castle would be lively. It was only the start of the process, it would only take approximately ten minutes for the swap to finish. The air would begin to vibrate with the sound of marching and shaking metal.
Change was something they were all used to, it was on the tired men would welcome. It was now time for the castle to be heavily fortified. For once the next batch of soliders had arrived they would be on guard till early morning. It was an arduous task, yet their forces would be better protected since they would have to be on the lookout through the night. Thankfully for them, in a couple of hours other soldiers would be on their way back and a majority of the palace guards would get a chance to enjoy supper, after that they wouldn't get a chance to eat till the end of their shift.
