"Wow, these exotic arctic fruit are fantastic! It's amazing that you can grow this in the snow!" Altair exclaimed. He was in the Imuchakk marketplace trying out many of the exotic foods. One of Altair's great joys in life was experiencing different cultures and cuisine, and this "Arctic Lemon" was quite exceptional. Contrary to a lemon from a warmer climate, this lemon was sweeter than sour, almost like a lemon candy. "I'll take three. This will make an excellent snack." Altair paid the large blue haired man, and continued down the row of shops. He was taking a shine to some of the jewelery, when he heard a commotion.
"Come on men! Today for sure! We head out to relieve the men from yesterday." Altair headed towards the men, and inquired as to what they were doing. "There's a little boy stuck in a crevasse. We've been trying to get him out since yesterday, but we've been largely unsuccessful. The ice is fragile, and any attempt to get down to him has only made it harder. the ice shifts when we step on it, meaning we can't rappel down, and we can't just tie someone off and jump, because the ice will cut the rope. It's been almost a week. And honestly, i'm not sure we'll be able to save him." Altair was shocked to hear about this. "Can i lend a hand? Maybe a fresh perspective will help." The man agreed, saying that they could use all the help they could get. Altair pocketed his lemons and went with the group.
They arrived at a camp near the crack in the ice at around noon. The sun was high in the sky, and though it was still cold, Altair could feel the heat from it's light. Men and women were scrambling about, trying to figure out new and inventive ways to get down to the boy. Altair went to the crack with two other men to check on the poor kid. He was certainly deep. It must have been two hundred meters down to where he was. Altair got down on one knee and surveyed the ice. There was a clear path down, but he could see that the ice was severely cracked in some areas, obviously where the men had tried to rappel down previously. Any more stress on those areas would result in the ice falling down and crushing the boy. It was certainly a conundrum. But then Altair had an idea. he hadn't tried it outside of practice yet, but it seemed like the perfect solution to this problem. "Go get some blankets and a hot meal. I'll have the kid out in a snap." Altair said to the two men with him. They cocked eyebrows at him, and then almost screamed when Altair jumped into the crevasse. On the way down, Altair muttered the incantation to activate his Djinn Equip. "Oh great spirit of insight and resolve, I command thee and thy household. Dwell in my body, and transform me into a great liberator! Reave, Caim!" Magoi exploded from Altair's body, wrapping around him and allowing him to do the one thing that would save both himself and the boy. He flew. Altair slowed his decent to a crawl, and alighted next to the child (who upon a closer look, was taller than he was. Didn't someone say this kid was eight?). the boy was crying, huddled and shivering in his clothes. "Hey bud. you ready to get out of here? Hold on tight." The boy looked up, smiled, and then laughed as Altair grabbed him and shot back up to the surface.
When he landed on the surface snow, the boy's mother came rushing over and gave both of them a big hug. she thanked Altair profusely, and hugged her boy as tight as she could. Altair smiled. It felt good to lend a hand. And now, it was time to enjoy a nice, sweet... "What happened to my lemons?"
