Job Details:

Figuro still had not made time for training her and gave her a nudge toward another job. He was vague as to why he wanted her to do jobs instead of training her magical skills, but he was one of the more respected magicians in the area and so she would listen to him for now. Besides, she was itching to do some damage and to stretch her magical skills. Figuro had informed her of an issue with some slave traders and suggested she should take care of it. This job required a tiny bit of research, however. She needed to locate the slavers, and so she took to the streets. The area some of the people had been taken from was centered in a fairly small area and so she began scouting the area. As she wandered through the alleys, her eyes were sharp. It was dark, but there were plenty of stars out. She resisted the urge to stop and stargaze, remembering that she was supposed to be doing a job.

It took three days to find a hint of where the slavers might be taking people. Ariella was not able to confirm it until the fourth day when she noticed a man dragging someone down the street, her eyes narrowed in suspicion. Quietly, she followed him to a building, taking note of where she was and the building. Once the man had entered the building with the person, she sneaked closer, trying to peak through the boarded up windows. A crack in one of the windows showed a glimpse of what appeared to be a young girl on the floor, bound and gagged. Ariella growled in anger. Though slavery was a widely accepted practice in most parts of the world, she had some standards. Kidnapping was not on the list of acceptable methods.

Ariella tried looking through more windows, but most were boarded up. She could hear a man inside the house yelling at what she assumed was one of the slaves and she could hear soft crying as well. Looking around the outside of the house some more, she noted a side door in a small alley, out of view of the main road. Anger tended to make her a bit careless, but it would not do to have someone thinking she was breaking into the house. She opted for the side door, wiggling the handled gently to see if it was unlocked. It was not, but it would not stop her. She tugged at her sleeve, her wand falling into her hand from the hiding spot. She tried to shoulder the door open, but her efforts failed. She was not very strong and the door seemed jammed shut. She circled around to the back of the house quietly, cursing as she heard the sounds of more men. As she peeked around the corner, she heard a man yelling for someone to go check out the noise she had made. Well, the element of surprise was taken, she supposed.

As she heard steps going through the house, she whispered to the rukh, directing it to concentrate around her wand as she waited for the steps she heard to develop into a person. She frowned as she heard not one but two sets of steps and changed gears in her mind, the original idea for a spell changing. She waited for the first man to clear the door and the second one to come into sight before she smiled. The men were close together as they looked around to find the source of the noise. She cleared her throat to draw their attention before raising her wand and whispering at the rukh to form an arc of lightning, the Chain Lightning striking at one of the men. Keeping her focus, she directed the rukh to arc the lightning to the man next to him and grinned at the bright flashes from the lightning as it struck the first man and then arced to zap the second man. The shocks caused the men to stumble and shake their heads. While they were distracted with the effects of her attack, she slipped by them and into the back of the house.

When Ariella slipped into the back of the house, she became angrier. There were several people being held in here, none of them looking well cared for. She snuck through the house, trying to locate the man she had heard shouting. She came to a room with a large man bent over a desk, counting out currency and writing down numbers. He had obviously trusted the other men to take care of the problem and had returned to his business. For the moment, she had the element of surprise on her side. Keeping out of view, she clutched at her wand, whispering to the rukh to build at the tip of the small instrument. Once she had built up the rukh, she directed the rukh to begin forming the electrical charge into a small ball. When the ball of lightning began to grow slowly, she slipped around the edge of the door frame, the slaver looking up from his papers to say something before the words froze in his throat at seeing a young woman with purple hair standing there, her wand held up with a sparking ball at the end. As he reached for a whip, she directed her wand, flinging the Shock Ball forward toward the man, the force of the ball striking him and knocking him back slightly, his left arm and leg going numb from the shock.

She smirked at the look of pain and shock on the slaver’s face and she tiptoed into the room, daintily avoiding the man twitching on the floor. She glanced over the papers on the desk, taking some that looked like they could be of interest before her eyes fell on the money. An idea sparked in her mind and she chuckled before scooping up the money and leaving the office. She made her way through the house, unbinding the people that had been taken and tucking some money into each of their pockets. The last one she freed, a small girl with a tear-streaked face, flung her arms around the surprised magician. She gave a soft chuckle and tucked the rest of the money into the girls pocket and led her from the front door, nudging the girl to her home with instructions to be more careful in the future.
