A stamp pressed ink onto a piece of paper before the document was handed over to an excited looking young man. This was the deed to the Koval Estate and acknowledgement that he was the official owner of the land. It was something he had been working towards for most of his short life and to finally have it in his hands filled Zion with joy. Excited to settle in back at his father's lab tower, the young magician left Magnostadt's east gate and hurried off to make his home coming.
A simple white flying carpet was gifted to Zion in congratulations for passing the Kodor exam from Casvallion. The young magician used this to soar off towards the horizon leaving the city far behind. Somehow Zion felt that he could even see lights already on in the tower, as if his father would be there waiting for his return. Unfortunately, as Zion got closer he started to realize that he wasn't seeing things. There was a light in the distance but instead of the distant light of a lantern it was more like a bonfire. Something wasn't right...
Willing the carpet to hurry onward with the most hast it could muster, Zion quickly closed the distance between himself and the estate allowing him to arrive in time to find a group of raiders pillaging his home. The torches some of them held made it clear who the arsonists were here. The sight struck Zion was both grief and rage. He landed his carpet into the fire light revealing himself to the raiders. His white ropes and silvery hair fluttered gently in the wind as he descended with a look of spite in his eyes.
Noticing the sudden arrival of an obvious magician due to the staff Zion held, one of the raiders made a loud cry that sounded like an eagle. The other raiders turned to pay attention and naturally moved to circle Zion on their horses. This was a group of hunters that had grown up together and their teamwork was fluid. Zion simply stood in the middle of them shifting his eyes about to keep track of the riders that had bows. He could see at least two of them mixed in with the spear and sword wielding raiders.
"Why have you come here!? Why set fire to my home!"
Despite being surrounded and outnumbered Zion stood his ground. Hardened by his three months at the academy where everyone was a potential enemy and the dangers of combat were drilled into his body, Zion felt confident even when pressured by such a situation. Surrounded and outnumbered was the norm for a training session with Casvallion Deikraft. His bravery evoked mixed responses from the raiders. A couple snickered finding his defiance to be a joke, another leveled a silent murderous gaze at the magician. But their leader seemed to find the kids spunk amusing so he grinned and decided to indulge in a love of his own voice.
"We don't have anything personal against you kid. But you see, we got paid reeeeeaaaaal good money to trash this old tower. Food's been scarce lately and me and my boys have to eat, ya know? With the fortune they are giving us we can abandon these shitty plains and go live like kings in balbadd. I've heard you can even buy women there!"
