Name: Rufus Martialis
Country Affiliation: Reim
Race: Human/Fanalis Halfling (Human Dominant)
Tier: D tier
Class: Ranger
Age + Birthdate: 19 years old/Born 8th August
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Bisexual
Personality: Rufus is known for his flamboyance and eloquence, particularly when talking about his preference for the colour red. This strong preference for red expands into all of his choices like clothing and even drinks. This all comes from his proudness of his Fanalis heritage.
He is a seemingly aggressive individual who is predisposed to resorting to violence in order to eliminate whoever annoys or hinders them, and has partaken in many a duel for that very reason.
In spite of this, he displays a gentler side of himself to his crew, frequently cutting the reward of plunder in favour of his companions, giving himself less than the rest of them. For this, he is seen as kindhearted and generous. And that is not wrong, for he himself believes his crew to have a bond that cannot be broken, he truly cares for them.
He has a tendency to flirt with his crew members, as well as every good looking person he comes across, a trait not often looked upon kindly by his crew. However, his charm and looks have often made many a woman swoon.
He acts in a very theatrical manner, illustrating his words with flourishes of the hand and poignant facial expressions. This sometimes makes others treat him like a joke.
Likes: Colour Red - has a strange obsession for different shades of red, including the crimson of blood and the magenta of wine, but is interested in the vibrant hues of Fanalis hair like his own the most.
Flirting - enjoys teasing those around him, which usually ends in a red cheek, yet he still doesn't give up on flirting.
Double Entendres - frequently uses wordplay, a fact not taken to very well by those who are in the other end of them.
Dislikes: Insults - he hates it when people slander his name, a common cause for many of the fights he has gotten into.
Beer - for some reason he seems to hate the taste with a passion, perhaps it's too bitter for him, or maybe there is a reason deep rooted in his past? Either way, he hates beer.
Aspirations: He wishes to find someone beautiful to devote himself to, be it someone with hair as red as blood, or perhaps someone far from his initial tastes. As such he roams the world, in search for the perfect person for him, in his ‘pirate’ vessel. On his travels, he has caught wind of the various instabilities created in his home country and in foreign ones, and so has made one of his aims to profit from them in anyway, be it political or financial.
Phobias/fears: He has a fear of the absence of perfection, that is, he is scared that he will not find the perfect person. He would agree himself that it is quite a strange fear, but it is rooted in his subconscious belief that he himself is imperfect. As such he has made his goal to find a true perfection, one untouched by his base values of beauty.

When off his ship, he wears a crimson and black tunic underneath the same jacket, which he wears on his shoulders much like a cape, with the same black trousers and shoes.

History: Rufus was born to a relatively well off family in a city close to the capital of Reim. His father had saved his Fanalis mother from a certain death at the hands of slave dealers, but had expected nothing back. However she stayed with him through thick and thin, saving him many times with her intelligence and skill, leading to their marriage and the eventual birth of their son, Rufus Martialis.
They truly cherished their son, raising him with an equal amount of maternal love and paternal discipline. He was taught the art of swordsmanship, but preferred marksmanship and hunting, in fact he excelled at it. But, by far, his mother taught him to be proud of his heritage, to be proud of his red hair.
However, his family had run into financial problems from the pressure of taxes and supporting a trade business (and perhaps partly due to Rufus’ tendency to gamble and drink with his friends). Whatever the reason, they were forced to rethink their options and how they should proceed forwards.
Quite unexpectedly, it was Rufus who offered to solve the problem. He had realised that he was partially guilty of putting them into these circumstances and wished to help in anyway possible. He volunteered to go out into the world of his accord, unloading the burden off his parent’s shoulders and supporting himself, and would drop off a certain sum of money from his exploits every so often.
His mother was against it, but his father saw through the initial front of Rufus’ idea. It was not just a plan to alleviate the family out of its problems. Rufus was expressing his desire to see the world for himself, to become an independent person. Having convinced his wife of the upsides this idea would lead to, Rufus’ father gave a ship from his trading fleet to his son and wished him luck.
With that, Rufus began to gather a crew of able-bodied men and women to work aboard his newfound vessel from all round Reim, each joining for their own reasons.
On the day of his departure from Reim, his mother gave him one last piece of advice:
‘Remember, even if others mock you or look down on you, your heritage is something to be proud of.’ With those words, he set off on his journey.
Role-Play Sample: Rufus sauntered on over to the bar counter, pulling out a bulging bag of coins, containing a hefty sum of money. ‘One glass of your finest red, please.’ Glancing over at the lady sitting at the counter, he added, ‘I think a rum will do for this fine young woman.’
The lady blushed as he said that, inciting a little smirk from Rufus. They introduced themselves to each other, chatting on and on about their lives, hobbies, skills and so on, oblivious to the jealous glares from the neighbouring men and women that they had unwittingly, and unwillingly perhaps, provoked.
