Job Details:

Sunlight reflected off the water, giving it a shine like bright diamonds.  Lush, exotic plants grew around the pool, green and full of life.  It was like a breath of fresh air to see such a vibrant Oasis in the middle of a dry and lifeless desert.  Leaning against the cargo and taking a greedy drink from his canteen, Hadil couldn’t help but feel that this break was a great idea.  He was a little nervous, this was his first job since leaving Reim.  Fighting was, for the moment, his only real talent so it was only natural that he’d take a job as a bodyguard.  Besides, how hard could it be to fend off a few bandits?

”You know, you’re rather scrawny for a Gladiator, Mister.  Aren’t all Gladiators big and strong?”  Hadil looked down at Noora, the merchant’s 6-year old daughter.  The girl looked as adorable and innocent as they come with just a bit of mischief inside.  ”All the really strong Gladiators are smart, not big.”  He responded, smiling faintly.  He hadn’t been around children very much, at least not since his childhood, and he was a bit uncertain as how to deal with them.  Noora seemed nice enough, but sometimes….”Eh?!  Mister, I think you just can’t accept that you’re a weak gladiator.”  She sneered, teasingly.  Hadil sighed, not sure how to argue with the munchkin.  He was about to retort when he smelled something unusual.  Oil.

Flames sprang to life in front of the small group.  The horses, spooked by the sudden fire, bolted, taking the cargo with them.  But five bandits barred his way.  Behind Hadil, Noora sobbed, clearly terrified.  The Gladiator took a deep breath, ”Don’t cry Noora, I’ll protect you, your father and his precious cargo without fail.  Just watch and see what a “Powerful” Gladiator looks like.”  He turned his attention back towards his opponents and lowered into his battle stance.  A quick perusal told Hadil that two of the bandits were a big bigger than the rest.  They were also likely more powerful.  He didn’t like his odds, but he couldn’t let them passed him and as long as they were engaged, they wouldn’t be able to run off with the cargo.  With a yell, Hadil charged.  As he neared the first bandit, he took position for [ Razjarden Majmuna ], putting in the extra stamina for a powerful.  The attack was sudden and the bandits unprepared, so he hardly put up a fight when Hadil’s arm smashed across his face.  Hadil thought he heard a slight crack as the man went down, but he didn’t have time to give it thought as two of the remaining bandits rushed him with daggers drawn.  He managed to disarm the first bandit and crack a metal fist across his face but the second bandit managed to get a strike in, drawing a line of blood across Hadil’s side.  He hardly felt it.  The Gladiator was already lost, already battle drunk.  Hadil’s gauntlet smashed into the back of that bandit’s head.  ”3 down…” Hadil breathed, turning to his remaining opponent’s.  He turned and took a blow to the face.  Warmth filled his mouth and Hadil spat the blood onto the sand before charging his opponent.  The bandit tried to slash at Hadil with his dagger, but only met air.  From below the gladiator shot up, smashing his elbow into the man’s chin.

Breathing heavily, Hadil scanned the area for the remaining bandit and his heart sank.  The villain held Noora in his arm, dagger resting on her throat.  ”I’m taking the cargo.  Try anything and I’ll kill her.”  In response, Hadil crouched, gathering his strength for [ Plesanje Jelen ].  Putting forth the additional effort, Hadil darted side-to-side, closing the distance.  The bandit was so focused on following his movement that he forgot he held a hostage.  Smashing a metal fist into the bandit’s fist caused him to yowl in pain and drop the dagger and the girl.  Hadil unleashed a flurry of blows into the man’s face, dropping him.  The group recovered the cargo, which was thankfully undamaged and whole.  As they reached their destination, Noora took Hadil aside and said, ”I take it back, Mister.  You’re really strong!”  Hadil smiled, deciding that dealing with children wasn’t so bad.
