Rufi:

Coliseum was the place where the entire fighter who wanted to test their skills came to fight another strong fighter. The place where the audience enjoyed watching the bloody fight, where they cheered for the fighter that they thought was worthy. The one eyed man stood in front of the grand coliseum, staring with his cold eye without even bothered to step in. This was one of the places where he thought had the most evil spectators. Who enjoyed seeing one person being beaten, usually until they reached dying stage or the worst was seeing one died in front of their eyes. It was not a nice scene to be watched and enjoyed, yet those people enjoyed it. Something that Tenma didn’t understand why…

For the swordsman, to enjoy seeing a fight was definitely by seeing it up close. That meant to personally engaged in the combat itself, feeling the thrill of the fight and also feeling how someone’s blood boiling, pumping up the adrenaline. That was the true pleasure, much… much better than only watching it. But it was not a pleasure that he sought at the moment, it was the experience. The fighters in this coliseum needed to deal with a lot of fight, perhaps most of it was deadly but they managed to survive. His enemies in his previous journey were not really give him the chance to improve, so he definitely need someone to fire his motivation back. It might be a nice chance to test his skill as well and probably he could invent some new abilities from the fight, considering he felt very rusty. Tenma licked his lip, knew that he had more important goal in the coliseum, but still… he hoped he could feel the pleasure of the fight as well so he could be more motivated.

Tenma could feel several people was looking at him as if he was some kind of a delicious food the moment he walked towards the registration spot, it was an observation to do rough calculation of someone’s power and capabilities. However, Tenma didn’t want to look that capable, he didn’t really want to stand out since his only goal was to enjoy the fight inside the coliseum. Yet he wondered how strong those people thing he was… His Katana and shield was the only things that was visible to other people since he hanged it on his waist and slung it on his back, so probably all the people would think that he was only an ordinary swordsman. That was not a problem at all since he didn’t plan to use his needle and throwing knives if he didn’t really need to use it, plus, it would help him to train his martial arts skill and also swordsmanship’s skill rather than being dependent to so many weapons at once.

The registration was simple and now he just needed to wait at the barracks before his name was called to fight this random warrior, he just hoped that this warrior who would be his enemy would be able to give him some kind of entertainment. The moment he heard his name being called, Tenma walked towards the entrance of the battleground and when he stepped in, the crowd was already cheering so loud to the point his earbud could burst because of that if it got any louder. He could feel the excitement from the spectators, they wanted to see a good fight and they wanted to see someone to be beaten up in the fight. Tenma closed his eyes… knowing that those people was such a blood thirsty one.

The emcee began to announce his enemy and if Tenma remember correctly, his enemy ‘s name was Rufi. Judging from his age and those scars on his well build body, Rufi must have a lot of experience in Coliseum fight and might not be someone to be underestimated. Before the battle started, as if they knew the code of swordsman’s respect to each other, Rufi and Tenma bowed to each other without saying a word and looked at each other’s eyes directly while waiting for the battle to begin.

“Begin the battle!”

Both of the warriors’ bodies twitched when they heard the signal, it was as if they were reacting to the announcement and made them be on their guard. Tenma stayed still and waited for Rufi to come near him, he wanted to observe his movement first and probably making their swords clashed with each other so he could learn how this elder warrior fight. At first no one made any move and only stayed still while looking at each other just like a tiger that was ready to pounce on its prey once if it made any movement before finishing it vigorously. Then just like seeing their own reflection, both of them made a single step exactly at the same time.  Both of them halted themselves and waited for each other to move again, this time more cautious because for melee ranged fighter, first person who got the first opening to attack might be able to deal more damage but that was only something that couldn’t be proven.

Tenma sighed and he threw his throwing knife in a swift move, but as expected from the experienced fighter, Rufi was able to swung his sword and redirect the throwing knife aside. However, the one eyed man wouldn’t waste the chance as he dashed forward while his right hand was gripping the Katana’s handle and another hand was gripping the sheath as his thumb slightly pushed the Katana from its sheath to make it easier for him to unsheathed it the moment he reached hitting range. Tenma would send 2 quick sharps towards Rufi but he would skillfully blocked it by using  his shield and turned the shield before moving behind it as he allowed Tenma’s attack to slide off the shield harmlessly. However the one eyed man wanted to use the chance and try to use his new developed skills that he had been thinking about, he knew how to do it and it was the right time to actually use it in the real battle. He focused his magoi to the palm of his hands before clapping them together and produced a shockwave, attempting to hit Rufi with that. He managed to perform Shogekiha and now he only need to wait to see if it worked or not by being on his guard just in case.

The old warrior was surprised to see such techniques and didn’t make it to bring his shield to defend himself from the shockwave. He could feel the energy breaking his body but thankfully he was stronger than that as he coughed a little bit before bringing himself up to face the swordsman once more. “You got something unique there, young man…” Rufi spoke to Tenma for the first time, acknowledging the strength that the one eyed man had but he refused to shame himself more than this. He trained hard to be in this position, well he might be not on the top at the moment but he believed the day would come some day and he would be able to be the most powerful fighter in the coliseum. He saw Tenma as another stepping stone for him to get on the top and he was not joking at all, he knew what he wanted and he knew he needed to work on it or he would regret it later. It was about giving his best to reach his goal so when he was able to reach it, he would get this ultimate satisfaction of being able to achieve it in a warrior path which was filled with fairness and power.

The black haired man chuckled, happy to know that he really lived up on that experience that he had until now; but Tenma was sure he could win. He had been training like a madman in Heliohapt, sacrificing his own body and his sanity in order to get stronger by revealing himself around the harsh terrain of Heliohapt’s desert. He wouldn’t even try to hold back because he knew that the old man wouldn’t like it if Tenma claiming his loss on purpose. This was a battle between warriors so the one eyed man would do it in warrior’s way, giving respect to his opponent and giving it all. However, if Tenma was really giving it all, then he was sure the old man would be dead in not a respectful way.

Rufi ran to Tenma and attempted to leap forward from his starting position and slashed Tenma with his swords in a downwards blow. However the swordsman was not that clueless and careless for that attack as he began to performed four diagonal slashes towards Rufi. After that Tenma would not stop and kept attacking by using his Katana to deliver four surprise cuts that was quickly being clashed by Rufi by using Steadfast Hold. Tenma laughed no longer after that, he was very happy to be able to fight Rufi and to see there was someone who able to hold long enough from his attacks, it was truly entertaining.

There was another think that he wanted to try and he would be using his own Katana in order to perform it. The idea of this move was inspired from the swallow bird that he saw when he was lying down on the roof. For some reason he couldn’t take his eye away from the bird and kept watching it as if it was a very bewitching creature. The way it moved and the way it flew was very beautiful as if the swallow was dancing in the air. Tenma started to think that he might be able to use the movement for his new set of skill and thus began to train it by recalling how it moved. Today he got to actually perform it and he feel very excited that he was able to get the chance to actually perform all of his new skill in the real battle. So by using his Katana, Tenma delivered a downward cut from above and then he instantly strike again in an upward motion from below. He would call this successfully ability as the Tsubame-Gaeshi since it was inspired by the swallow bird itself.
Without even able to defend himself from Tenma’s new technique, Rufi fell to the ground and it seemed like he was accepting his defeat. He could tell that the one eyed man was just simply stronger than him and he was not able to surpass this man in this moment. The swordsman watched Rufi and waited until he admitted his defeat that made the judge to announce the result of the fight. It was Tenma’s win and his very first coliseum win; that would be some kind of motivation to be undefeated amongst the coliseum’s fighters. However it was not actually his goal, Coliseum was just his source of entertainment and also the way to measure his strength. It would be good as well if he could try to register for another fight so he could have experience to have a fight with many types of people. However, Tenma kneeled down beside Rufi and whispered things to him before leaving the battleground. His words was as sweet as venom since he didn’t really mean it, “It was a very nice fight, Sir. I would like to fight with you again someday.” He wouldnt fight him again unless he could feel there was a significant change on his power and it made him excited and curious at the same time to test it.

After claiming his win, Tenma stepped out and headed to the barracks where he could feel that the stare towards him were becoming much more intense and he knew that it was because he won his first coliseum fight. He could hear people mocked him and said that it was a mere luck but they had not seen what he made of yet. Tenma was sure that he could kill most of the fighter in the coliseum but doing that would be a complicated matter. So what he was going to do now was to show them that he was capable to fight and that it was not only a mere luck. His hand would reach for his Katana and made all the fighters in the barrack being cautious and might be ready to beat Tenma up. They would sigh when Tenma was just going to clean it up and quickly looked away when Tenma beamed them with his bright smile.
