Christmas Party, Magi Greatness style.

Well, i was thinking as a group everyone active should join in for a huge player wise Christmas party hosted in the Open Sea. During the party there will be Duels, presents, food fights and some Bad Ass Sanda goes green monster to fight as a group. 

I don't mind creating the Events and topics and stuff. Most likely create 3 topics within the Open sea. Nothing that happens at this event is cannon though players will remember it, like a dream.    Sounds good?.

I must say, not a bad idea. Maybe not directly holiday themed, just generally "Winter" themed in case some people have conflicting opinions. I especially like the OOC idea where "it was all just a dream" though at the same time, I'd rather not remember even the slightest detail.

There could be a tournament with the end prize being an A-tier magic weapon/tool or a cash prize that doesn't involve donating huang. If everyone where to donate huang, then there wouldn't be much of a cash prize XD

And if people wouldn't want to participate in the tournament, then they could just socialize for whatever reason or fight a giant monster as you (Kabu) suggested. Maybe not Santa in order to keep with a broad "Winter" theme. I'll get to that later.

As for the reason for the dreaming;

An evil magician/spirit/monster who's power awakens once a year comes out and puts everyone to sleep (OOC, not IC) in order to drain their life force. The only way to defeat the evil being is to destroy the being within the dream which manifests itself as a hulking glacier/mountain/pony (the giant monster mentioned earlier). The more fighting occurs, the more energy the evil being is able to feed upon which is why it not only manifests itself, but also hosts a dream-wide fighting tournament with a prize in the end. Whether the giant monster is defeated or the tournament has a clear winner doesn't matter for the evil spirit will inevitably gain enough energy to live another year!

So yeah, not "evil", just an annoyance more or less. All the same though, the idea is able to encompass everything mentioned, one way or another. Whatever rewards are earned would also be created using the excess energy that the evil being doesn't need, etc etc etc.

yeh this sounds good guys however what about the small guys? Like can they have a smaller tournament for smaller prices. Because some people are still D or C rank so they would possibly get defeated easily

How about this;

Single tournament to keep things relatively simple. However, when facing someone of a different tier, the person of a higher tier can only use the type of weapons/abilities/items that the lower tier can use.

Ex: A-tier vs. D-tier

In terms of Abilities/Spells
D-tier unaffected.
A-tier can only use C/D-tier abilities/spells.

In terms of Items/Weapons
D-tier unaffected.
A-tier's weapons are scaled down to D-tier in terms of durability and damage. Same with borg while Advanced Wands become regular wands without abilities attached to them.

In terms of Magoi/Stamina
D-tier unaffected.
A-tier's magoi/stamina is reduced down to the D-tier base level + whatever extra magoi/stamina they have accumulated such as the Blessing of the Rukh, etc.

The only problem altogether would be the number of weapons/items/beasts/magic-types the higher tier player possesses.

I honestly don't know how to balance this to fit everyone without making it too complicated. However, if you want to make things just a little more/less complicated (depending on point of view) then someone could make a WHOLE set of abilities and items specifically to be used once a year in this tournament. Whoever uses these set abilities and items better definitely deserves to be the winner.

If push comes to shove (and this actually gets made into an OOC event), then multiple tournaments could be held. I don't know.

As much as I personally like the idea, I can't see this for Magi, but that's probably just me. I haven't been on here long, only since February, so I don't know if anything was done last holiday season or not.

I can't see this working much unless it was an OOC thread where everyone could join. The reason for this being with people being locked in a country, like me since I'm in the dungeon in Balbadd. Another thing is the amount of people who are interested that you will want to consider. Too many people can be very overwhelming, depending on how this idea is played out, if it gets to that.

I don't like this idea only because you are limiting people who are stronger down to D-Tier. Normally - I know this is a forum and not a video game - the weaker players get some sort of buff that supposedly makes them on an equal playing field with the stronger players. You don't see the stronger players be made weaker. Doesn't seem right, especially when they worked to get where they are at in terms of strength and equipment. Unfortunately, I have no system in mind that would benefit both parties, so perhaps what I'm saying doesn't amount to much...

The idea is intended to be OOC, so don't worry about that unless staff says otherwise. That's why the "dream" idea was suggested which could give ample reason to join the event whenever you wanted to from wherever you may be. At least, that's the hope if it gets approved~

Yeah, I also don't like the idea of weakening most everyone because most everyone that is active is, on average, C~B-tier. Weakening the higher tiers is simply the first thing that popped into my head.

However, I can stand behind my other idea; creating "cookie cutter" abilities and items such that, when within the "dream state/world", not only your character but every other character that enters MUST use these "dream abilities/items" if they wish to battle in the tournament. If push comes to shove, I may create these abilities myself in order to convince staff of this tournament idea. Anyway, with these abilities/items, everyone is on even ground without technically being weakened, aside from magoi/stamina.

I kind of agree with you on this, too. Unfortunately, the most "Magi" way to pull off an event such that everyone can participate is to host it IC in multiple locations which would require multiple staff-made posts (giant monster). Sure everyone could participate, but some locations have a scarce number of players (Imuchakk) so Vodarara an individual within such a location wouldn't have as much fun.

You know, it would be very nice to see staff post about this. Better to rip the band-aid quick, right?

Well generally I figured this could happen in the open sea, but for everyone to is allowed to say 3 topics. With no Topic Lock, Location lock, or whatever type of lock. At the same time a dream state.  
Most civilisations have some forum of holiday or celebration at this point.  At the end of winter. At the same time in magic, they have had multiple parties and celebrations generally at the start of the end of arcs.

Well, how does this happen? potentially staff could use said event foreshadow maybe a really powerful Magi who wanted to give people a gift of peace or whatever. This could possibly mean every single character NPC gets brought in, and forgets. 
As far as prizes I had kind of things that were quite a unique quirky instead like an A tier weapon. More Social intended,

How to make a tourney in this short fair, to everyone who enters, Possibly remove abilities outright and people are forced to use Basic attacks. Or maybe 4 abilities each based on the weapon they picked.

Staff is discussing the possibility of running a Christmas event, and is watching for any other suggestions in the meanwhile. If you are all okay with this idea then we will begin planning as soon as possible and then present everything to see how interested the players all are.

Forreal tho, if this does happen then I don't think it would be a good idea to have it region locked. Having it happen in multiple locations or requiring players to travel to one location is a big hassle and has the potential to be really messy.

I'm a fan of the dream explanation, everyone can have fun together but the interaction would not be canon. Maybe players would have a vague memory of it, but probably not much beyond that.

Edit: In regards to having it be basic attacks only, I don't really think that's fair. Humans can only do D-tier damage thru basic attacks, whereas Fanalis and Imu deal much higher base damage. Unless we take away all racial buffs, lol.

I think that for the tournament, the best solution would be different classes. An A-Tier, B-Tier, C-Tier, and D-Tier tournament. Omegas can't have any fun. Sorry not sorry. :D The omegas can act sorta like judges/critics of each tournament... or they can have their own little battle royale instead of a 1v1 tourney thing. I think that would be more interesting of the Omega tier characters we have. At least, in my opinion.

Maybe an optional step up challenge? The winner of each category fights the runner up of the category above them? In case of the A-Tiers, they just select an Omega to challenge.

If things are split up into separate tournaments, then a battle royale is somewhat necessary for every tournament. Not all that many per rank.

However now that staff seems interested, I think it best to leave what happens next to them~
