Migi Kesa Giri, upper right to lower left a basic technique and one she should have known well sense she was a child. Xun positions her feet into a firm stance with both hands on her katana up at her right shoulder. But unfortunately it was not a technique she had ever perfected. Sure she could pull it off in a slow and clumsy form, but so could anyone else wielding a katana for the first time. For someone like her who has been using one for well over half their life it was a disgrace not to have it as simple muscle memory. Xun clumsily swings the blade down and ends up to far right at the end of the cut to be a true Migi Kesa Giri. Swearing she re-positions and gets ready to go again.
In all honesty she had been close to successful with this technique, as well as the rest of the diagonal cuts, before she had been kicked out of her dojo at 15. Since she had run away to become a wander though her practice had been seldom and rather lack luster with primary focus on retaining what she knew not what she hadn’t yet learned. As such all the diagonal cuts, Migi Kesa Giri, Hidari Kesa Giri, Hidari Joho Giri, and Migi Joho Giri, remained rather sloppy.
Xun closes her eyes and takes a deep breath in through her nose and out through her mouth several seconds later. Opening them she swung her katana and let her muscles relax enough to not resist the motion of the blade, but making sure her grip was not compromised, to better let gravity guide the swing. Just as the near perfect cut ended a muscle twitch caused it to veer off horizontally to the left. The result was a poorly executed, and rather unintended, Migi Kesa Giri and Migi Ichimonji Giri combo that would have horribly failed in a fight.
Gritting her teeth again she tried to breath in and out without letting her thoughts travel to far in into anger and frustration, an effort at which she failed. As her frustration and anger set in her eyes get serious and her muscles become tense and stiff. With a reset in position she she swung again and was greeted with a fast, and erratic cut. Enraged further she set up for another swing which upon failing set her to swinging wildly like a mad woman at imaginary enemies. She would have kept going until all her energy was spent if it hadn’t been for the sudden shower of rain which jolted her out of her rage. After a few moments of standing in the steadily falling rain Xun she sheathed her katana and stared directly into the sky as she screamed in frustration.
Eventually she had to stop her frustrated scream as she began coughing on rain water that had fallen into her open mouth. After a few minutes of coughing and sputtering Xun sat down on the ground caring little that she was getting soaked muddy and focused on breathing in an attempt to clear her head. She had put off this train for quite some time but now that her funds were dry she would need all the help she can get training wise before entering the coliseum to earn some more Huang.
As she sat there the steady rhythm of the rain got her calm enough to recall her childhood lessons and she remembered a step she had forgotten to do at the start of the training, stretching. Standing back up she focuses on the rain and getting her muscles just as fluid and limber as the drops hitting her body. At first her body resisted the motions and forms involved in the stretches but after a while the memories, both mental and muscular, took hold and it became second nature. This went on for well into 45 minutes and other than the fact that since her childhood her muscles had tightened up she was quite limber and focused. It was time, or rather long past time, to perfect Migi Kesa Giri.
With both hand on the hilt of her katana, right hand on top left hand on bottom, and raised the blade above her upper right shoulder. Closing her eyes she took a deep breath and focused her energy on the task at hand. Opening them she took notice in the sun peaking out as the last drizzle of rain sprinkled down to the ground just before slowly and steadily swinging the blade diagonally down to the left. With a reset Xun did the same thing several more times before picking up the speed and in a couple hours she was able to complete 25 Migi Kesa Giri at full speed.
With sweat dripping into her eyes Xun repeated the process single handedly just using her right hand and her katana. The process suddenly became slower and sloppier now that the extra stability of both hands was gone. By the time she had gotten it perfected to the point of 25 full speed cuts the day was gone and night would soon be upon her.
Wiping her brow in the twilit hour she sheathed her katana and did about 5 minutes of stretching before unsheathing her wakizashi and gripped it with her left hand and proceeded to go through the same process yet again with just her left hand for the next several hours until satisfied by 25 full speed cuts.
Sheathing her wakizashi she stretched out her arms as she headed back towards the shack she had paid rented all to aware she owed rent in two weeks time and didn't even have the funds to buy more food yet.
The next morning Xun woke up stiff, sore, tired, and with a cough. Standing up she went to fetch a meager breakfast she got dressed and headed back out to train in the privacy of the grand outdoors. Her shack was on the outskirts of a small village about a days journey out from the capital by foot and came with plenty of empty fields around that she hand a feeling nobody would mind her using. Even if they did she honestly couldn't care less as in her mind her training is more important than anybody's seemingly vacant field.
After about 45 minutes of stretching, primarily focused on her arms, had gone by Xun unsheathed her katana and re-visited the previous days work and after a few tries managed to successfully pull off a few perfect Migi Kesa Giri cuts with both hands together and separately, and finally she knew she had learned the migi kesa giri well enough to use in combat.
