Delivering Wine to the Rich
Ah, the coronation. Such occasions were truly magnificent to behold. Who wouldn't be excited about the crowning of a new king? All of Reim was in a frenzy, and with the economy boost, it had really turned into a mad house. Adrastos Thanatos, a secret Kou affiliate but seemingly humble magician from Magnostadt wearing nothing but black and red, including a turban he had bought, had been issued with task of delivering wine to five buyers who had been recently purchased the stuff from one of the numerous buyers in the country. All the magician had to do was to get them to the appropriate owner intact, all safe and sound, ready to be drank at their heart's content. Easy as pie.
Adrastos had loaded up a wagon filled with twenty-five barrels of wine. Five barrels went to each of the owners. He counted the merchandise, once, twice, then three times, making sure that all the barrels were accounted for. Once certain everything was ready, the mage set off, riding the streets of Reim at the front of the wagon.
The ride was not smooth one bit. Adrastos often found himself glancing back at the load he had in the back, worried that something was damaged. Every time he looked back, nothing was wrong. The fear still lingered. The sun beat down on Adrastos' white hair. Beads of sweat dripped down his face which he didn't bother to wipe away. What if he crashed into another wagon? What if the wagon flipped by hitting something in the street? The possibilities of disasters were endless. The magician didn't want to take any chances.
Adrastos arrived at the first stop by noon. He knocked on the door and was greeted by a chubby little man with rosy cheeks wearing fine green robes. "Are you here to deliver my wine?" Adrastos nodded. "They're in the back. Your order of five barrels is there." The chubby little man called out to his servants to go and get the wine. When they were done, Adrastos got back on the wagon and traveled to his next location. The next stop was at a young lady's home. She smiled sweetly at the magician, perhaps too sweetly, and actually went back to check if the wine was there. "Very good. My uncle will be very pleased. He is having a party later tonight and if there is no wine, there can't be a party." She took five barrels and left Adrastos to head to the next stop on the list. The third customer was young man with blonde hair. So far, all these people were part of the rich. How could the magician expect anything less? Wine was expensive and no poor peasant could lay a single finger on the stuff. He, like the two before him, took his share with much gratitude and went back into his comfy abode.
Adrastos had made the two final stops right before twilight had hit. Luckily, they didn't have an immediate use for the wine and only sought it for personal reason such as hanging with friends and getting drunk. All the wine had been delivered by the end of the day with no trouble. This was pleasing news for when he rode back to the sellers to acquire the money for delivering their goods on such a busy day.
