Name: Xia Bai Zhi (夏 百志)
Country Affiliation: Wanderer
Race: Human
Tier: D
Class: Warrior (D-Tier)
Age + Birthdate: 21 + 4/16
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Bisexual
Personality:
- Bai Zhi could be called two-faced in some ways; depending on how you meet her, it's very easy to assume she acts one way, only to realize she's prone to another behavior entirely. On the outside, she's a sleek, tempered sword— on the inside, a jagged and impulsive weapon.
- Gentle | Bai Zhi prides herself on careful, meticulous work. Only in her darkest hours will she tighten her grip; only when the stakes are high does she raise her voice. Some may call her shy, but in truth, she's merely learned when and how to use her strength. Her breathing calm, she analyzes her surroundings with a watchful eye.
- Kind | A gentle hand does not equate to kindness, yet Bai Zhi is lucky enough to have both. Though not combative, she refuses to allow injustice to pass, making sure the hungry do not go unfed and the weak do not go unprotected. She smiles often, her eyes bright.
- Curious | While some may believe this to be a negative trait, Bai Zhi has a strong sense of curiosity, often going out of her way to discover what she wants to know. Keen observation skills aid her in this pursuit, as does her quick mind, yet this far from assures that she doesn't run into any trouble. Only luck has kept her curiosity from endangering her life— though perhaps it would be better if it hadn't.
- Reckless | Tempered and patient she is, except for when she believes that it's her time to act. Bai Zhi is prone to throw herself into the fray to aid another, even if she risks injury in the process. Whether it be because she fancies herself a hero or because she loves the thrill, the fact remains that her mind races at the thought of being the one to solve a problem, be it big or small.
Likes:
- Sweet Fruit | It's rare that the idea of a sweet apple or peach doesn't bring a smile to Bai Zhi's face. This, she believes, is the midway point between her sweet tooth and her desire to stay healthy. It takes all of her willpower to not simply accept a basket of fruit as payment for her services. (Sometimes, willpower loses.)
- Storytelling | Though she isn't often the one telling the stories, Bai Zhi loves to hear the tales of triumphant heroes and long journeys. She wishes that one day, she will be the one telling her own story.
- Long Nights | Work usually ends in the night. When it doesn't, it feels that much longer. However, Bai Zhi finds herself preferring occupied nights, as they're full of a life different than the morning's chatter. (The stories of the night come out of drunken mouths, but she's not picky.)
Dislikes:
- Dishonesty | This, Bai Zhi believes, is a no-brainer. What kind of person enjoys being around liars and cheats? She'd rather be alone.
- Cowards | "Coward" is a strong word on her tongue, but she stands by it all the same. What worth does a person hold if they don't stand up for what they believe in, regardless of the risk? Bravery and strength are virtues she holds dear and hopes she embodies.
- Sour/Bitter Foods | Bai Zhi's sweet tooth is strong, and her hatred for bitter and sour foods match that strength. She doesn't understand why foods have to hurt your mouth! It's a cruelty she often dramatizes around those she trusts.
Aspirations:
- To Become a Hero Worth Telling Stories About | Perhaps it's the thrill of adventure that spurs her forward. Maybe it's wanting to have her name known in places she's never traveled to. Regardless of her reasons, Bai Zhi wants to make a name for herself in the biggest way possible. Rumors of insurmountable dungeons have passed her ears, so perhaps surviving one of those would be a way to skyrocket her to fame... Asking the right people would surely get some results, but who were the right people? This would take a while...
Phobias/fears:
- Being Forgotten | Nothing quite fills Bai Zhi with fear like the thought of being forgotten. Many of her aspirations and ideals lie in being known, recognized and appreciated by those she's helped, so to suddenly lose all of that would be nigh devastating. Even someone so much as forgetting her name could strike a pang of fear into her heart.
To combat this, she often finds herself going out of her way to make herself more memorable to those around her, even if it just means making eye contact for a few seconds more. After all, how could someone amount to anything if they aren't remembered?
Face-Claim: Shirayuki; Snow White with The Red Hair (long hair)
Hair Color: Red
Eye Color: Green
Height: 5'9ft / 175cm
Weight: 158lbs
Appearance:
- Hair | Apple red hair falls in straight locks down to Bai Zhi's middle back, scarcely seen without a small ribbon tying it into a ponytail. She often twirls a lock or two around her fingers as an idle habit. If she needs it out of the way while she's working, she ties it up into a bun.
- Eyes | Her eyes are a bright green, alert and constantly flickering from place to place. When her demeanor turns serious, they almost seem to darken, though this is more likely due to her tilting her head downwards than it is to any conscious (or unconscious) change in her actual eye color. She smiles with an excited twinkle in her eyes when faced with something she loves.
- Clothing | Bai Zhi favors simple merchant's clothing more than anything else. If it's easy to move in and provides protection from foul weather, she'll wear it. However, she has a secret fondness for jewelry.
- Body and Body Language | Bai Zhi's often baggy clothing hide a figure of lean muscle, as her life has been full of exercise and training. She stands up straight, making eye contact when spoken to and allowing her eyes to wander as she works. Friends and customers will only notice a few idle habits, such as wringing her hands or playing with her hair. She has a habit of placing a hand to her cheek when she's deep in thought.
Rukh Alignment: White

History:
- When the Xia family had their first child, they brought her to a magician and requested that they divine her future.
When the magician told them that she would be cursed with black rukh, they named her Bai Zhi— Bai meaning white or pure, and Zhi meaning will, ambition, or purpose.
In the hopes that their daughter could escape her fate, they raised her with kindness. A stern but gentle hand, a reminder that there are always others who have less than you— Bai Zhi was taught to be a tempered sword in the hand of justice, and she took these lessons well.
The most important lesson, however, was that fate was there to assist and lead her. Needlessly defying it would only lead to hardship.
Luckily, she had no issue with these teachings.
She was a smart, resourceful child, asking many questions and reading many books. When she asked to be trained with a sword, her parents only looked at her oddly before allowing it to pass. (Accepting that she was a bit of a tomboy was easy enough; it was finding someone to teach her that proved difficult.)
They often found her with stars in her eyes, enraptured in stories told by passing travelers. She wanted to be like the heroes people always spoke of, fighting for justice and for the sake of those who couldn't protect themselves.
Bai Zhi is now 19. She hasn't reached her dream of being a hero, but she is still a compassionate, fearless person, making her living by traveling and selling wares. Oftentimes, she finds herself doing odd jobs for loyal customers who know of her capability. Never finding herself hungry or lonely, she lives a peaceful life with little to no worries.
However, a quiet curiosity lingers at the back of her mind. As she no longer lives with her parents, her thoughts are free to wander into territory that they would disapprove of, even if they still clash with her own ideals.
Thus, when the nights are quiet and lonely, she wonders to herself:
What is it like to have black rukh?
She's never met anyone who had fallen, so she couldn't just ask... Yet the thought came to her, time and time again. Depravity was such a scary thing, but the danger behind the concept was almost... intoxicating. Exhilarating to think about, especially by someone who had scarcely been in any real danger.
Would she ever act on this curiosity? Didn't it lie in direct opposition with her dream of running into the fray to protect those in need?
Only time would tell.
Role-Play Sample:
- "Bai Zhi, could you take this basket for me?"
As quickly as she asked, the basket was taken from Amari's hands by the red flash that was Bai Zhi.
"Thank you— and don't you dare eat any of that fruit! Set it out on the table outside."
"Not even one plum?" Bai Zhi poked her head into the doorway, a hopeful glean in her eye.
"No."
"Awww. Okay." Accepting her defeat, Bai Zhi made her way outside to the bustling crowds of customers, setting the basket of plums out on the table. A couple were almost immediately grabbed, coins tossed on the table in exchange.
Only now did she notice that one of the plums had been eaten all the way through by an insect.
After a moment of consideration, she grabbed the plum from the basket and flicked her own coin onto the table, eating around the hole until it was all that was left.
...And then she ate the rest of the plum. The sacrifices she made for her employers... Who were also her customers. Ah well. All she could do now was supervise and wait for the plums to run out.
