This doesn't make the illusion physical, since they would be quite literally hitting thin air, and it doesn't stop people from noticing him since he's there, just not visible, but it does mean that people find it next to impossible to actually know where to hit.

However, the size of the affected area changes the strength. It can be concentrated at their entire body, but it just leaves a red, painful layer of skin, equivalent to a sunburn rather than an actual injury. To get a first degree burn, it has to be around ten inches wide.

However, anyone who closed their eyes will have it burn through their eyelids, causing their vision to only display a strange orange light for a turn.

Forming a giant ball of light that floats around ten meters off the ground, it begins to give out extremely concentrated light rays. This causes those caught within the proximity, apart from Yomi, to get a second degree burn on any exposed skin, and will destroy their clothes within two turns, making their entire body exposed skin. It also causes those with invisibility spells to shimmer under the direct light, exposing any camouflaged people using a C rank or under invisibility spell. This requires a C rank or higher spell that affects the passage of light to stop (e.g. using water refraction via water magic)
