There were many ways a magician could brag about his skill in magoi manipulation, but the name of the games today was ones skill in flight magic. Several students at the academy have been hyping a tournament open to all magicians. Interested in the reward money, Yakuroro signed up for the race right away. As the tall Imuchakk wrote his name down on the sign up sheet, a cocky strength magician was walk up beside him and make a snide comment, "Ha! As if a big oaf like you could beat and "Ace" flyer light me! Leave the flight magic to the black magician's big guy. Yakuroro turned to the rude mage with a smile and politely replied, "Oh really? I didn't know that. Thanks for telling me!" He then returned to signing up and nodded to the registrar before turning to nod at the now frustrated bully. "Good luck with the race."

"Grrrr...hold it! My name is Ithmal! Don't you forget it because I'm gonna be the one in first place tomorrow!" Ithmal didn't seem to enjoy being ignored, but that was the reaction Yakuroro gave anyways as he refused to feed the pompous fool's ego. Instead, the blue mage would calmly return to his inn room where he would rest in preparation for the race the next day.

The day of the race began on a good note. The skies were clear and a warm sun made the weather just right for flying trough the wind. Yakuroro made is way to the hill where the race was to begin and looked around at all the other participants. Some were mages he'd seen before whilst others were total strangers, but there was one familiar face that Yaku wished had not shown. Alas, with people like Ithmal, you could almost always count on their appearance in any chance to prove themselves above others. As the black magician leered Yaku's direction with a putrid gaze of spite, the blue magician smiled in return as the race was about to begin.

A referee stepped out and blew a whistle to get everyone's attention before explaining the rules. "The race will be from this end of the city walls to the other. You can take any path you choose and you make use magic to hinder your opponents! But casting spells directly on fellow magician's is forbidden. Got it!?" All the participants present nodded or affirmed with some kind of sign. The ref nodded in kind and rose a white flag. The race would begin when the flag fell.

The flag dropped and all at once a dozen mages all activated their own flight spells. Gravity magic was bent the the will of magicians as they collectively took off. The pack quickly spread out as the faster magician's made their dominance known. Ithmal was able to take the lead of course, but Yakuroro also had the B-tier flight spell and was not too far behind. Yakuroro rose his staff forwards and tried to use water magic to slow Ithmal down as he was slowly pulling away from the Imuchakk whom was slowed by his own massive weight. "Stubborn Current!" Yakuroro shouted as he gathered magoi into his staff while collecting water from the atmosphere before firing it as a high pressure stream.

The whirling current of water would reach out for Ithmal and force him to dodge up down, left right, and in any other direction than forward. This would keep him from pulling too far away from Yakuroro, but now they were only going the same speed. He needed something more if he was going to catch up and eventually pass the black mage. Yakuroro looked up ahead to see if there was anything he could use as the approached Magnostadt's larger central buildings. It seemed like Ithmal was veering left in the same direction the wind was blowing. Banners on the towers of Magnostadt's great buildings blowing in the wind gave Yakuroro an idea.

The the large towers of magnostadt were quickly becoming closer and closer to the two flying mages whom were contesting for first place. Yakuroro would have to act soon, but he couldn't help taunting the black mage first so as to confuse him. "Hey! Your name was Itch-Mail right!?" The blue haired water mage got the name wrong on purpose, but the obliviously friendly face he put on made it seem like Yaku was just an idiot. "What!? Want to beg for mercy now that you-"

"Glacial Arc..."

"-see that there's no beating me!?" As the black mage bragged about his assure success, a blade of ice flew past him at a speed of 15m/s veering off to the right towards the tower. "Ha! You missed!" Ithmal sniggered as he turned around to fly backwards so as to rub his superiority in deeper. Ithmal wanted to throw as much salt onto Yaku's wounded pride as he could, "You should have listened to be and never signed up in the first place! In the end, there is no way a big slow Imuchakk could beat me, a strength magician, in a gravity magic contest. It just can't happen!"

As Ithmal made one comment after the other he was becoming more and more upset as Yakuroro just grinned at him with that same damn friendly smile. "What's so darn funny!? You think we're friends!?" Ithmal demanded. Yakuroro smiled bright and nodded, "Yup! We can be friends! So...since we're friends now, you should look in front of you~" Yaku pointed ahead leading Ithmal to turn around just in time to smack face first into a banner from the tower. Yaku's glacial arc spell was aimed for the banner to cut it down. This allowed the wind to carry it right into Ithmal's path.

When the black magician hit the cloth of the banner, he panicked thinking it was some kind of spell Yakuroro had cast directly on him. "Cheater! I've been bespelled!" Ithmal claimed in vain as he flew out of control into another tower before dropping to the ground. With Ithmal disqualified and Yakuroro already ahead of everyone else that put him in first place. Without the "Ace" Ithmal to compete against, the rest of the race was a cake walk for the blue mage. Yakuroro reached the finish line first and was greeted with a cheering crowd.
