Twas the touch of night settling among students and teachers alike. Neither student nor teacher, except for one, knew of the troubles to befall the professors that seemingly ordinary night. The students all gathered in their individual rooms and with their roommates if they had one. Some climbed into bed, blowing out the candles. Others pulled out a book to read just before bedtime. Still others, seated at their small desks brimmed with homework to work through the night, were burning candlelight. And the professors all stayed up late to grade homework and plan for tomorrow. In other words, a seemingly average night.

Til the arrows aligned on the number twice six and to the chagrin of nearby students sleeping, screams of surprise sequenced through the hallways. Eyes flung open to reveal tired, sleepy, and irritated students. A block or two from the professors’ side of the wing, honey-brown eyes glared at the ceiling. Closer to the professors’ portion of the wing, the footsteps of frantic teachers scurrying about added to the erratic stimulation of noise which plagued his ears. He imagined it attacking him from all sides like an group of angry wasps with sleep just out of his reach. Every time he was close to it, the swarm of wasps stung him again and effectively pushed his back.

Thereof and upon, roused from his weary bunk and diseased with tire, stumbled to the blocked entrance and with half the effort of a functioning human, opened the door with a less than graceful swing. Blinking tiredly, the young magician walked in an offset path to the source of the commotion. He found himself sighing at the sight of spiders and teachers and students alike scurrying to and fro. He shook his head at the utter immaturity he was witnessing. Snapping angrily he said, “Calm the hell down! They're just. Freaking. Spiders. Honestly!” One teacher spared a glance at the irritated magician before snorting and joining the fray again.

Anon spiders aflutter and cast upon blame a guiltless child wherefore brown eyes cast upon the innocence sympathy - who could count the number of chiding offered up to him? - and swiftly slipped away. Little of unexpectation for Ariel, spiders continued to infest the great school. Every night, another poor student was cruelly picked out from the crowd. And he? He laughed at the teachers for their incompetence and idiocy. The answer and culprit was right in front of them but they so easily missed it! Tis a wonder how arrogance so easily blinded the supposedly wise ones. He chuckled. Idiots, the lot of them.

“Laughing are we? Perhaps you’d be less inclined to laugh at us if you were the one trying to find the kid behind this mess?” a teacher spoke humorlessly.

“Are you suggesting I try and find the ‘kid’?” he said. Ariel’s eyes twinkled mirthfully in contrast to the professor’ angry expression.

“Of course - not like you have anything better to do, right?”

“Pft, sorry. I’m not helping.”

“I wasn’t giving you a choice.”

“You guys never do. Fine. So what do ya want me to do when I find the ‘kid’. Beat him up like you guys always…?”

“There’s no need to be violent. Just find the kid.”

“Oh, phew. Here I was thinking you were going to ask something really difficult of me.”

“Oi, stop stalling and get to it!”

“Here you go!” Ariel swung his arms out in a welcoming posture.

“W-what!?”

“You asked me to find the uh - by kid you mean culprit, right? Well here’s the culprit. Right in front of you!”
