xxxxxx The civil war continued to brew within Kou and Diana began to notice how it affected the people around her. Husbands were removed from homes, the smithies radiated heat, food became low. It wasn't her country but she felt some sort of need to help these people. Her beasts hadn't been with her at this time. She left them to do their own thing in the mountains but they would find their ways back to each other soon enough. Loneliness was easier surrounded by strangers yet it still nipped at her mind. The fanalis crossed her arms casually against herself as she watched a recruiting officer knock upon the doors of homes. It pained her to see the sadness of the proud faced families see their sons and husbands off to war. Occasionally, a woman would be pulled into the mix if they deemed her able to fight. It seemed they would take anyone if it suited them. Diana wasn't worried about herself. If they did happen to enlist her, she would simply flee. This war was none of her business. As the thought drifted through her mind, a cold hand gripped her shoulder. In a swift reaction, she swung her body around, ready to strike them but she stopped before it connected. The man was tall, clad in a generic armor. His face was rough to look at, almost inhuman due to the amount of injuries he sustained. He seemed to have been grinning, though she couldn't tell.
xxxxxx "Nice reflexes," he said. She nudged her arm out of his grasp and stepped back. "Thanks," she murmured. Then came a short sigh from him as he pulled out a document to show her. It was an order from Yoshiro. That all able residents of this particular region are to be enlisted into the army. There was a large wagon a ways behind him, filled with ordinary folk. No one of her caliber or so she could tell. "Do I need to read it for you, foreigner?" he asked, clearly annoyed and exhausted with his day. Diana shook her head, shrugging. Her curiosity had the best of her at all times. If this would deem uninteresting, she would move on. For she had no intention to kill innocents for some emperor she didn't know. "Good, now get in with the rest of them," he commanded, pointing to the wagon. Diana rolled her eyes and climbed up into it, sitting next to one of the people. There were some who were crying and others who were excited. It was depressing to say the least. Packed into a wagon with a bunch of people was oddly comforting for her, though. But she didn't muster up any conversation for the ride.
xxxxxx After stopping at a few more spots they arrived at a large encampment. They were ordered to line up in order to be identified. Diana had written down false information down on the sheet in order to conceal her real identity. She didn't need these people tracking her down after she was done here. After being ran through a few boring drills, they were divided into two sides. It was a set up for a sparring match between the soldiers. She hung back in the small crowd and watched as they fumbled around with wooden swords. It was pathetic how they made these people fight. Half of them were too young or too old. Barely any of them experienced with a sword, let alone fighting. After a few fights, she decided to step forward onto the dirt. They handed her an odd wooden sword. It wasn't something she had ever held before. A foreign training weapon. It was light but still had a nice weight to it. Diana took it as easy as she could on the civilians that faced her, bringing them to the floor with ease. "Is there no one here strong enough?" she said aloud, curious if there was any more warriors like her in the opposite crowd. Two others in her side of the field joined her. Perhaps hoping they could take the glory for themselves.
