Evil Arises Pt. II/III [Job ~ Diana]

Apparent Evil:

Only a few hours have passed since Rima and Diana discovered the corpse in the alleyway. She was meditating in a open grassy area right outside of the village. However, she needed to find Diana and apologize to her for running off so suddenly. She knew that this killer was somehow related to the man she was looking for, but she didn't expect to see exactly what happened in her home town.

She gripped her staff and used it to help her off the ground, but suddenly a faint sound of laughing could be heard across the stream and into the town. It must have been quite loud for her to hear it all the way out here, so she picked up her bag and started heading back to the town and in the direction of the laughter.

xxxxxx Diana had been waiting in the same spot for about an hour without any sign on her friend returning. "Tch." She leaned onto Pluto who was digging his paw at the ground for some time now. The body was starting to reek as the organs ruptured from the swelling. Pluto wasn't all too excited about standing here much longer so he walked a short way from the corpse. It wasn't long until the sound of clunking metal reached their ears. Diana looked down the road where it was coming from and held up her hand half-way. "It's here," she stated, pointing at the alleyway. Thankfully they were expecting her to be there. Rima, however, was not with them. It made Diana a bit irritated that she would go on without her.

xxxxxx "Thanks," said one of the guards, "more bodies to clean up every day." The statement was vague enough to leave her puzzled. How long had this been going on? "What do you mean?" she asked, awaiting his answer. The men just shook their heads and let out a weak chuckle, talking among themselves. She assumed she wouldn't get much out of them since the guard in this town didn't seem to care. The murderer was still out there and it was high time they found them. "Pluto, let's go," she commanded, Pluto heeling to her location. She held up the piece of cloth again to let him sniff. The dog sniffed the tattered object, barking in a low tone to signify he had a trail.

xxxxxx She skillfully pulled herself on top of his back and allowed him to lead. The height advantage let have a clearer vision range of the surrounding area. Everything seemed quite normal for this town so far but they weren't done yet. Pluto stopped in his tracks and turned his head to the left. Someone was following them. When he lowered his body she tucked hers down as well as they crept towards the area he suspected. A woman let out a loud maniacal laugh before running off and disappearing. Pluto barked and was ready to chase but Diana stopped him. She had noticed Rima making her way towards the location. When she got to them Diana would give her a icy glare. "Where have you been?" she would ask.

Rima felt a chill run down her spine as Diana gave her a death stare. Her eyes began to tear up and she looked down to the ground. "I'm sorry...I can explain." she said nervously. She got a handkerchief out of her bag and wiped her runny nose before continuing. "My emotions got the best of me when I saw that corpse...if that's how all the murders have been around here, then there is no doubt in my mind that it's the same man who killed my brother." she looked towards the village with a gleam in her eyes. "Diana..I promise you that we will capture this killer, and I won't leave your side like that ever again." and just for a second there was a small gathering of white Rukh around her, proving her sincerity.

She took a step towards the village and held out her staff, drawing a circle in the air. "Albawmat Sariea!" a purple shimmer sparked in the air as bacteria started to form the shape of an owl. It then flew off towards the town and began to make a loud screeching noise before dispersing in the dark sky.  "I heard laughing a bit earlier in that direction..there seems to be only two people over there though. Want to go check it out?" she said looking up at Diana.

xxxxxx The girls tears were enough to show she was genuine with her apology. Diana softened her gaze, smiling softly at her and saying, "It's okay." There was a story to be heard but she knew it wasn't the time to ask. She looked off into the distance toward where the culprits were coming from. "I promise," she started to say before looking back at Rima, "I will find this man you speak of and bring him to justice." Diana brought her fist to her chest and nodded. White rukh fluttered around her as she said this. A gleam of determination in her eyes. She then placed it back onto Pluto, patting the space behind her. "Get on. Don't worry he doesn't mind," she said in a gentle tone, extending her hand to help her friend up on her giant companion. Pluto, rearing to take off after the smell. "Just make sure you hold on," she chuckled.

Rima wiped away the tears that were in her eyes. She then gave Diana a gentle smile "Let's do this!" she said with high spirit. Diana gripped her hand and pulled her up on Pluto, they then took off towards the part of the city where the Rima's owl dispersed. He ran around the first block of entering the city and entered an alleyway. Suddenly Pluto started to sniff around like crazy, a low growl could be heard from the beast. Something definitely must have spooked him because he back up quickly causing both Rima and Diana to almost fall off, Rima had to grip her hat tightly or it would have flew off from the sheer force. Pluto then darted towards the center of what seemed to be a more slummish side of the town.

After about five minutes of them hanging onto Pluto for dear life they finally reached a stand-still. When they first entered this part of town it looked like the slums, but the further they went in the cleaner it looked. Most of the surrounding buildings looked empty, but there was a single lit lantern sitting in the window of one of them. Both Rima got off of Pluto and started looking at their surroundings.

It wasn't very long before they both realized that most of the nearby houses looked broken in and ransacked, but for some odd reason everything looked clean and recent. However, there were way too many houses like this for it to have been a recent robbery spree. No one could have gotten away with something like this unless they were incredibly skillful. Rima peered into one of the broken front doors, it was incredibly dark but there was a faint dripping sound inside. She forced the door open after struggling with it for a moment and went inside. 

To her dismay she saw three corpses strung up to the ceiling bleeding out. "What...what the hell?!" she let out as a cry. She ran back out of the house, but to her surprise Diana wasn't waiting for her. Instead there was a tall lanky figure standing in her place who wore a porcelain mask and a cut-up black dress. "Why hello there! I've been waiting for you to come out and play with me.~"

xxxxxx They descended into what looked like the slums. Pluto came to a halting stop, sliding against the dirt. He seemed to have pinned their general location. Now they just had to find them. Every house they saw was in shambles. Diana wasn't surprised given the living condition but something didn't seem right here. Rima had gotten off Pluto to investigate some nearby buildings. As Diana was waiting for her to come out of the first home before she spotted a figure run out of a house and into the fog. "I've spotted someone, stay here," she shouted, hoping Rima heard her before jumping off Pluto onto a nearby rooftop.

xxxxxx Pluto ran the opposite way, excited to finally be able to hunt again. He darted down the streets, keeping close track of the person's scent. Diana had good vision on her surroundings while scaling the rooftops. She only prayed they were sturdy enough to hold from her strong push offs. "There," she mumbled, watching as the culprit stopped in place. It was looking in her direction, expecting her. She used all the strength she could muster up to leap off the building and kick towards the person who skillfully dodged her attack. Diana's foot crashed and slid across the dirt into a building creating a huge crater with deep skid marks.

xxxxxx Dust and debris clogged the air, mixing with the fog. The person coughed beginning to make their way over to her laughing. Diana patted herself off as she collected herself from the harsh impact. She was quite annoyed that her attack didn't hit. Pluto had finally arrived and approached behind her, sneezing a few times from all the stuffiness in the air. "Fiesty, huh?" growled the person, chuckling as he chucked a corpse to the side. It appeared to be an older man in his thirties. He was wearing a white porcelain mask with a creepy face etched into it. The mask and his tattered clothes had fresh blood splatter on it. Was this the man Rima was looking for? Diana didn't think twice before attempting to land a full forced punch on his face.

xxxxxx Much to her surprised he caught her punch. His hand shattering from the forceful impact. He let out a scream that quickly turned into a laugh. "This will be exciting," he said delightfully, grabbing his scimitar with his other hand and attempting to slice at her in a crescent-like motion. Diana jumped back barely in time as her shirt and stomach was lightly cut from the slice but enough for her to bleed. "Ah~," he moaned. The man charged at her again slashing at her relentlessly, trying to get her throat for a quick kill. All Diana could do is continuously step back from his attacks. This was extremely frustrating for her. "Pluto," she commanded, "Capio." The dog followed through with this command by taking the man in his jaws and crushing him before letting go on Diana's command.

xxxxxx "Now!" she shouted, landing a direct punch to the man's gut as Pluto released him. He coughed violently, vomiting and fell to the floor. "Join those whose lives you've taken," she muttered. Her voice gentle but her words coated with ice. It was as if she had said a prayer. In an attempt to save his life he slashed at her again with his sword which she easily stepped back from. Her eyes gazed into his, filled with pity as she snapped her fingers and turned away. Pluto engulfed the man within his mouth, devouring him almost whole. Diana hummed a tune loud enough to partially block out the sounds of bones crunching between his teeth. Her heart was heavy with the burden of the man's death but she understood that justice comes with a cost.

"Diana? That's not funny.." Rima said glaring at the masked woman in front of her. However, when she checked the woman head to toe she noticed there was no way that was Diana. She wore a porcelain mask with red painted lips, a black dress that was slightly tattered, and a crossbow tied to her waist. She positioned herself in a combat ready stance as the masked stranger began to approach her. "Come on now! Shall we dance?" she yelled before dashing towards Rima. It wasn't long before she was face to face with the woman, that's when she struck towards Rima's throat with her sharp nails. After the intense training Rima went through this attack was too slow to actually hit her, so she simply moved out of the way fast enough causing the enemy to miss entirely. "What's the fun in running?!" she screamed as she pulled out the small crossbow tied to her side. She then quickly rolled and shot towards Rima.

Rima would have tried to move out of the way, but the bolt was too fast. So instead she simply used her borg to protect herself causing the bolt to snap on contact. Rima let out a giggle as she clapped out of pity for her opponent. "Is this really the best you can do? With attacks like those how did you get away with so many murders?" she questioned the lady. "Unless...you aren't the killer." Rima glared at the masked lady with malice. She then lifted her staff and began to shake it slightly so the rings made a sort of jingle. "I'm not going to sit around and play with some copy-cat killer. Tell me what you know about the murders that took place in Otaru, and maybe just maybe I'll let you live."

The masked woman didn't respond for a moment but quickly broke the silence with a laugh. "Why would I tell a dead girl about something like that?" she said in a cocky tone. Rima was quite puzzled by this reaction, did she really think she had a chance? Her crossbow bolts were way too weak to even dent her borg. However, Rima's answer came quickly as a form of attack from her blindspot. She was quick enough to block with her borg, but it shattered and knocked her against a nearby wall. Rima looked up and saw a second masked enemy. This one's mask was different however. Their mask had large blue lips on it, instead of normal red lips like the other woman.

The new opponent who revealed herself began slowly walking towards me and laughing. Listening to the voice it was easy to tell it was another woman. If it wasn't for the voice it would have been hard, since she wore black leather armor that covered her entire body. The only skin that was visible were here hands, which her nails were painted a light purple. She was holding a large curved blade that looked incredibly sharp, so she knew to stay away from that considering how easily it broke through her borg. "Who the hell are you?!" Rima said glaring at the two enemies in front of her.

She didn't get much of a response, because as soon as she said that the new challenger charged at her holding her sword in a strange curved angle. The other masked lady was also in place aiming her crossbow directly at Rima ready to fire at a moments notice. Rima dashed to the side, causing the masked woman with a sword to barely miss her. However, a crossbow bolt hit Rima in the leg the moment she slowed down after the first attack. She let out a scream as blood trickled down her leg.

Rima looked down at the ground momentarily as black Rukh began to cluster at her feet. All that meditation and training with Faris meant nothing to her in an actual battle. It was time she took off the training wheels and ended this once and for all. She looked towards the enemies in front of her and twirled her staff in the air before holding it out directly in front of her. She then began to trace a circle in the air and immediately cut through it. "Mamnue Alshshams!"

A sphere of fire shot out towards the woman with the crossbow, she quickly tumbled out of the way taking another shot towards Rima. However, before the spell was out of range Rima snapped her fingers. This caused the heat magic to expand immediately causing the masked lady to get hit by the blast, burning her badly. She laid still on the ground blackened by the flames.

xxxxxx "Let's find Rima," said Diana to Pluto, walking alongside him down empty streets. The air reeked of death and her companions breath didn't help. Pluto licked his lips to clean some of the blood that was still stuck to his fur. He was actually mellow for once as he was full and content with his meal. Diana couldn't help but feel a little sick so she covered her mouth and nose from the odors. It wasn't long until they caught up to Rima, she wasn't very far from were they were. The stench of burning flesh was strong here. "Let's keep investigating, Rima," she groaned. Diana wanted to get away from this place as fast as she could. Even the sight of the burnt body was making her sick. Pluto walked over to the body and sniffed it before scrunching his nose in disgust deeming it inedible. He huffed out of his nose and part of the body flew away in ashes.

"No need to investigate anything, Who I beleive to be the killer is right there." she said pointing to the masked maniac standing in front of the building Rima originally went into. Pluto had already noticed her and was growling viciously. The masked maniac didn't hesitate at all, and immediately dashed towards Rima lunging at her with her curved blade. Rima reacted immediately as well by dodging out of the way and pointing her staff towards the masked maniac.

"Tell me everything you know about that damned masked man!" she quickly drew a circle in the air and sliced through it. "Mamnue Alshshams!" a sphere of fire erupted from the staff and was fired towards the enemy. Rima then snapped her fingers, causing the sphere of fire to rapidly expand to its maximum size of 3m. The masked maniac swiftly dodged it, only burning part of their arm for C-Tier damage.

xxxxxx Diana looked over to the building that Rima was pointing at only to see a woman dash towards her. Stunned, she was late to react, watching her friend handle herself just fine. When Rima shouted her spell Diana knew right away to retreat backwards out of the range of the spell. Pluto managed to get away as well before charging in at the woman when the explosion dispersed. The masked woman swiftly turned her attention to Pluto using her Serpent Bite strike. He managed to get a bite in, dealing C tier damage to the woman's torso but took C tier damage himself from the confusing movements of the woman. She leaped back and laughed, preforming a weird dance. Pluto was about to charge in again but Diana stopped him by climbing onto his back and then jumping off his head towards the woman.

xxxxxx The masked maniac drew her whip blade, loosely grabbing Diana by the arm, ripping into it for B Tier damage. The blade ground against her bones and cut through her flesh like it was butter. But it was too late for the woman, Diana connected a kick with all the force she could muster to the woman's head. Her head went backwards as her mask shattered into tiny pieces, a revealed face. The maniac grinned, blood dripping out her nose and into her mouth. The whip blade released Diana's arm, Pluto running over and picking her up by the shirt to move her away from the danger seeing the extent of her injury. The pain was near unbearable once it set in. She collapsed to her knees, gripping her arm in agony.

xxxxxx "Heh..," the woman spit blood from her mouth, "It'd be a waste to kill you now." She quickly coiled her whip blade back to her hip then covered her face with her hand. "Catch me if you can and I'll tell you about him," she cooed, turning and running away into the thickening fog. The woman left an obvious blood trail behind her. Diana was certain this woman wanted to be followed but she was in no fighting condition. "Sorry..," she apologized, smiling weakly at Rima. She rummaged through her bag to find the handkerchief that woman had given her to tie her wound up before she could get healed. Pluto gently nudged her, laying down next to her, resting his giant head on her lap.

Rima collapsed to her knees as the pain from her injured leg finally started to kick in. The stocking on her right leg was soaked with blood after not tending to the crossbow bolt sticking out. She took off the bag on her back and pulled out a white cloth. She quickly ripped the bolt out of her leg and applied pressure to the wound with the cloth. She cried out in pain, but it didn't her from grabbing her staff and lowering it to the wound. "Aistieadatan Daeifa." she chanted. A faint purple glow began to close the wound completely for C-Tier damage, leaving only a small scar in its place. She got up quickly and tried jumping up and down to test her healed leg. It was still a bit sore, but nothing that would stop her from continuing any further.

"I should be the one that's sorry. If only I was a little bit stronger then neither of us would have gotten hurt...and maybe I could have saved some of these unfortunate people tonight." "Here let me fix you up." she leaned over towards Diana's wound and placed her staff ontop of her wounded arm. "Aistieadatan Daeifa." The faint purple light then began to seal the ripped flesh for B-Tier damage on Diana's arm. "It will still hurt for a while considering how deep it was, but you don't have to worry about bleeding out at least." she said patting Diana's back. "Alright, so what now? We have to go after her...but first we should get someone to clean up the dead bodies inside these houses."

Rima let out a sigh as she stood back up, she held her hand towards Diana to help her up off the ground. "Let's get someone together, I promised I wouldn't run off by myself again afterall." she said with a ear-to-ear smile on her face.

xxxxxx "There wasn't much we could do," she said, trying to comfort Rima. It wasn't her fault for not being strong enough. Diana felt more at fault for not being a better hunter. If only they could have tracked them faster. Rima went over to her, healing the wound on her arm. While it still throbbed it felt a lot better than it did. "Thank you..," she smiled weakly at Rima. When she mentioned that they should get someone Diana was quick to want to dismiss the thought. But before she spoke she shook her head, "Perhaps she won't go anywhere." Diana looked off into the direction before getting up and climbing on Pluto's back. "Get on, we need to be quick," she said, backing the spot behind her. When Rima got on him, he would get up and start moving back towards the center of the town where the authorities were with great speed.

Rima looked into Diana's eyes "I know she won't go anywhere, serial killers never do once they claim territory." she said in an unusual serious tone. She then quickly hopped on top of Pluto and darted off back to the center of the town. Only about ten minutes passed when they finally reached their destination. They both hopped off of Pluto and began searching for someone to help them. Eventually, Rima bumped into an elderly gentleman with a top hat. She called Diana over and discussed what they found, and what happened to them in that sector of town. Luckily for them it turned out he was one of the town government officials. They then both got their rewards for the information and handling the dangerous criminals.
