Tenju's Vault TJy1BaH
Name: Tenju Ichidai
Country Affiliation: Wanderer
Race: Human
Tier: D
Specialization: Intelligence
Age + Birthdate: 18
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Personality:
Often described as an old soul, Tenju has been known to walk a fine line between maturity and complete buffoonery. As a young boy he underwent a very strict upbringing that scrubbed a great deal of naivety and childishness from his demeanor when dealing with other people. Tenju is polite and does his best to avoid needless conflict with others by applying an understanding and open minded approach to things that might otherwise upset a young man of his age. However, the nature of this sheltered life also led to a certain foolishness in Tenju that becomes more and more apparent as he travels on his journey. His social etiquette is, in a general sense, developed to an impressive level however that composure can be lost when faced with situations or individuals beyond the confines of the monastery he grew up in.

Having lived a life within the confines of temple walls, Tenju is oblivious to the myriad walks of life the common people of the world experience. Oblivious to reasons for committing theft, or the suffering of extreme poverty, Tenju still has rose colored glasses that will surely make his life difficult moving forward as he faces the aspects of himself that had been stunted by his sheltered life. Until such growth happens, Tenju is prone to being tricked or fooled so long as the deception sounds reasonable and the instigator is putting up a good act. Tenju will also blunder with blunt and insensitive comments at times where he doesn't understand the context of a situation outside his monk experiences. His tolerance for accepting and dealing with his blunders or the malicious acts of others is fairly robust, unless of course violence is being used in which case he will not stand by quietly. Violence is one of the few ways to anger Tenju.

Likes:

  • Meditation - Tenju has always found peace and insight in meditation. He continues to rely on it as an important life skill and enjoys the relaxation it brings.
  • Magic - Fascinated by the seemingly limitless applications of magic, Tenju loves learning and experiencing new ways to work with the rukh.

Dislikes:

  • Menial Tasks - As an apprentice monk, Tenju has had his fair share of chores in life. The boredom of sweeping or polishing statues has worn on him.
  • Senseless Violence - As a young man who values peace and fairness, unnecessary acts of aggression upset him greatly.

Aspirations: Tenju has left his home country at the behest of his master in order to accomplish two main goals. The first is to reach Magnostadt and learn more about magic in order to become the best magician he can be. The second is to see the world for himself and to experience the wonders that his master has told him about. In order to accomplish these things, Tenju has risked exile from his home by defying the monastery abbot's wishes and leaving Kina by ship to start his journey in Kou. From there, he plans on heading west to Magnostadt.
Phobias/fears:
Wild beasts and creatures of certain types unsettle and terrify Tenju even if he is consciously aware of being capable of subduing them. This doesn't really apply so much to domesticated beasts or cute looking creatures like foxes, cats, and dogs. However, animals that appear strange or vicious cause the young man to cower from them and act somewhat irrationally. Even if he is strong enough to defeat them, his fear may cause him to make poor decisions until his life is threatened. Ironically, it is only when he is in direct danger from beasts that he is able to quell his fears enough to handle them reasonably.
Face-Claim: Arisugawa Sorata - X
Hair Color: Black
Eye Color: Brown
Height: 188cm | 6'2"
Weight: 68kg | 150 lbs
Appearance:
Tenju is a young man with a tall frame adorned with meager muscle mass. His body is somewhat squishy and undefined due to a lack of training. What little toning he does possess has been merely the result of doing chores and staying mildly active. His hair is a shiney head of black locks that are cut short and worn wildly spikey. The wind is often his only stylist. As for clothing, Tenju is commonly known to wear his monk grab almost exclusively, only deviating from it if he must wear a disguise for some reason. The monk cloths consist of a dark inner robe and a lighter outer robe tied at the shoulder. He wears straw sandals on his feet as well but aside from these things the man wears little else.
Rukh Alignment: White
Special Traits: -
History:
In the small isolated island country to the far east known as Kina Kingdom, a monastery full of monks found an abandoned babe on their doorstep. The child was the result of an abusive home and unable to bear the thought of her child suffering, its mother entrusted the boy's future to the monks. Normally, the baby would have been sent to a nearby village, however the abbot claimed that a star divination instructed them to take the baby in. He was given the name Tenju meaning a life blessed by the heavens due to the way the heavens themselves had instructed the monastery to raise him.

Tenju grew up under strict tutelage from the monks with a daily schedule full of chores, study, and lectures to keep the child from being idle. He was never allowed to leave the temple grounds as part of the divination has supposedly suggested that great tragedy would befall the child should he ever leave. Hopeful to avoid this fate, the abbot kept a close eye on Tenju and made it clear that he was kept in the confines of the monastery. This was an understandably stressful situation for Tenju and as the years went on the more the monks insisted he stay, the more Tenju longed to see the world outside the walls of the temple.

When Tenju was seventeen, a woman arrived at the monastery and caused quite the commotion. The abbot was not always a monk and in his youth, he had fathered a daughter. She left the country years ago which led to the man abandoning worldly desires to become a monk. The girl had returned to Kina a woman, and sought out her father in order to reconnect with him. By chance, Tenju ended up in a room alone with the woman and learned her name was Yukirei Ichidai. Once he learned that she had been traveling the world, Tenju begged Yukirei to tell him about the outside. Their meeting was interrupted by the abbot's arrival however.

The abbot was cold and rejecting to his daughter, insisting that she leave immediately and seemed especially keen on her not speaking to Tenju. The abbot had foreseen something like this and knew what would happen if he allowed the two to speak. His fears became a self fulfilling prophecy of sorts however. Appalled by her father's behavior and eager to defy him as petty revenge, Yukirei abducted Tenju that night, offering to show him wonders beyond his imagining if he joined her willingly. Of course, Tenju jumped at the chance to leave his sheltered home and together the two set out from the monastery in the dead of night.

It wasn't long into their journey that Yukirei realized Tenju was born a magician due to the appearance of his borg. An event that shocked the boy who had lived a life free of ill intent from others until then. Being a magician herself, Yukirei found the idea of training Tenju amusing. For the next few months, she taught Tenju the basics of life magic which he had the most affinity towards and travelled Kina Kingdom on foot. They made a living off of Tenju's work as a healer treating minor wounds and sickness in small villages. During this time, Tenju asked Yukirei about the countries across the sea she had mentioned often. Amazed and awed by her stories, Tenju's eyes always glowed with a longing to see the lands for himself.

Yukirei was far from oblivious to Tenju's hunger for the world outside of Kina. When the young man turned eighteen, she suggested that he go see the world for himself. Yukirei gave Tenju a map to a city called Magnostadt where she herself had learned magic and instructed him to go there first. Tenju was eager to start his journey, but hesitant to go when his master informed him that she would not be going with him. Unsure of what to do, Tenju faltered until one day he woke up to find that Yukirei was gone. His master believed that Tenju could not find his resolve with her there, so she left him a note and bid him safe travels.

Before setting out, Tenju returned home to the monastery and met with the abbot to apologize for leaving and inform him that he would be setting out once again, much farther away this time. The abbot was furious with the boy and warned him that he would not be welcome again if he did choose to leave. The abbot offered Tenju one last chance to stay, but the wanderlust had already taken hold on him. Tenju thanked the abbot and politely refused. Once he did, the anger the abbot had was released with a sigh and replaced with understanding, albeit reluctant, acceptance. The abbot didn't retract his threat of exile, however, he did impart his own staff to Tenju and saw him off with a smile wishing him luck on his travels.
