Job Name: Taking Out the Infiltrators Pt III/V
Job Rank: C
Job Location: Reim
Job Rewards: 100 XP/7,000 Huang
Job Prerequisites: N/A
Job Overview: Liber has been informed that Awadatsu, one of the Kou soldiers from the night of the invasion, has been hiding at a remote inn, awaiting orders from her superior officer. Awadatsu has since been spotted filling civilians’ homes with water to drown or flush them out.

Enemy Name: Awadatsu
Rank: C
Needed damage to take down: B
Description: Awadatsu has a small flute magic tool that manipulates water and moves at 8 m/s.

Damp Fog – Awadatsu uses her magic tool to generate a fog of miniscule water particles around her, using the water as a sensory network and to obscure vision in a 5 meter radius around her. The fog generates at a speed of 15m/s.

Chilling Strike – Awadatsu uses her magic tool to create ice shards in her Damp Fog that move at 15m/s and strike everything in the fog for C-tier damage.

Scrubbing Bubbles – Awadatsu uses her magic tool to generate a stream of .5 m bubbles that move at 15m/s, dealing C-tier damage and forcing her opponent back up to 5 meters.

Liber arrived at the fountain where the dead drop containing his next contract could be found. The assassin hated having the same location for every job as this held considerable risk of it being discovered. To mitigate this, he had been staggering the times that he visited the loose stone compartment and always ensured that these were times when few people would be around to see the act. This time, Liber approached the marble carved source of clean water as a full moon shone down upon the waters rippling surface. Liber admired the way the silver orb was distorted into a dance of light for a moment before looking around to check for witnesses. This wasn't a particularly busy square even during the day, there was no one to see him engage in his work. With that being confirmed, Liber knelt down and used one of his needles as a wedge to remove the loose stone.

The job inside was for yet another soldier of the Kou invasion force to be eliminated. The evidence provided claimed that the woman was using magic to violate the homes of people with no determinable cause other than cruelty. Some had even died of drowning thanks to her actions. Liber frowned as he read the details and where he could find her. This was most certainly a woman that should pay the blood price for her actions if the information proved to be true. But speaking honestly, there was much  more scum from whatever rock she had crawled out of. Liber could dedicate his entire life to squashing out the lives of these bugs and never get any closer towards fixing anything with the world. There had to be more important targets...Alas, this did not make Liber's current prey any less deserving of a blade across her throat. The fanalis killer for hire would do his job and he would do it with all the professionalism he had been trained in.

After making his way to the remote inn mentioned in the contract, Liber entered the building and requested a room along with a meal. He sat in the den and tossed the parchment detailing the job into the fireplace watching his orders burn beyond recognition. With that done, he would wait there in the den for a short while eating his meal slowly. When Awadatsu didn't show up after a reasonable wait, Liber thanked the innkeep for the food and headed up to his room. Either he'd chosen the wrong day or he had arrived too late or early. Perhaps the woman hadn't set out for her "fun" yet or perhaps she already had. Either way, the fanalis waited until evening and tried to wait for her again.

This time, his patience saw reward as a young woman clearly of Kouen descent made her way down the stairs and out the inn door. Liber finished his meal without rush and then set out to track the woman down. He followed her into town using the rooftops to follow her unseen and began watching for any signs of her supposed guilt. Liber's policy was to observe his mark and determine if they really did deserve swift justice before he ever goes about administering it. It would not take long, however, to confirm Awadatsu's cruelty. Liber watched as the female magician pulled a wand from the sleeve of her cloak and muttered a spell. A nearby building suddenly began to drain water from every door, window, crack, and chimney. She has struck again, seemingly unprovoked.

Liber had made his judgement. Tonight, Awadatsu would die.

Another long day. It seemed like that was the only day that Bahir could have lately. Since he moved to Reim, there hasn't been much relaxation done by the young man. It was all of his own doing though. That fact alone kept him from openly complaining about how busy he's been. He hasn't even acknowledged it when his complaints have been mere thoughts. There was nothing that he wanted to do more when he got home than to sleep. Upon the building where he was staying while in Reim, Bahir removed the black cloak from his shoulders. With a sigh, he removed his top and started to lay down on his bed.

As his head met his pillow, there was an ominous feeling that washed over him. The hair on the back of his neck started to stick up. Not able to ignore this feeling anymore, the young Fanalis sat up on the edge of his bed. He looked over to his window and didn't see anything out of the ordinary. That's weird.. Sighing again, he tried to ignore the feeling once again. This time as the back of his head met his pillow, he felt an abnormal amount of pressure press against him. He couldn't feel feel his bed anymore and his eyes snapped open at the suffocating feeling that he had. Upon opening his eyes, Bahir was met with a wave of confusion.

Everything looked distorted. He had already stopped trying to inhale but started to feel a pain in his lungs immediately. He hadn't had time to inhale a sufficient amount of oxygen. After a moment, his senses came to him enough for him to know that he was being drowned, surrounded by water. How on earth did that happen though?! Magic doesn't just suddenly fill every inch of someone's home! He didn't have time to think about it though. Turning his body, Bahir angled himself carefully. His back was facing the door to his home and he was staring at a wall. Without looking behind him to double check, Bahir raised his knees to his chest and pushed his feet into the wall. He didn't kick the wall hard enough to destroy it, but it was enough to propel him towards the door. The slab of wood was already trying to hold against the water, but the added force from Bahir's impact against it forced it open. Sweet freedom..

Bahir fell onto the hard ground, feeling the water rush passed him every side. He was gasping for air, his body taking in what it felt fair compared to how much it was deprived not too long before. Needless to say, the young fanalis was a little irritated... and by a little, of course we mean that he was completely pissed. While his chest was still rising in falling desperately, his hands clenched into fists and the right was was slammed into the ground, cracking it a bit. "REALLY?! I just wanted to fucking sleep!" He quickly jumped to his feet and looked around on the street. Hoping, and not hoping, that he found signs of another person. Hopefully the person who was the cause of this. Then there it was, his eyes focused on a woman holding a wand. Bahir took a couple of steps from his doorway, squaring up with the woman. "Hey! What's the big idea?!"

Liber had not been planning on taking action right away. If possible, he would have preferred to observe the female magician longer and upon learning the paths she traveled most often, set traps. Magician's had their borgs after all. The shield of magoi had the annoying feature of acting without a magician's conscious approval and protected them from unseen attacks. For an assassin, this was a pesky ability for an opponent to possess. It meant that a quick kill from a surprise attack would not be a viable approach to dealing with a magician. It was a shame that Liber could not save those inside the building Awadatsu was flooding, but to make any such attempts would give himself away and put the magician on guard. Besides, he wasn't here to be a hero. He was here to snuff out a life that should not be allowed to go on.

As he observed silently from the rooftops above, Liber's maroon eyes were drawn to the doorway as it suddenly burst open and the water that flowed out carried with it, a person. Narrowing his night adjusted eyes, Liber took in the features of the stranger and took note of the signature red hair. From the clothing they wore, he could not yet tell if it was a man or a woman at this distance, but evidence suggested that this was likely one of his own race. Knowing the short temperament of the fanalis and witnessing the demeanor in which the man was approaching the woman, Liber worried that this young man might try to fight Awadatsu head on. While he didn't exactly have a terribly strong desire to help Bahir, Liber felt somewhat obligated to lend a hand considering the nature of his employer. Were a dead fanalis to be found at the scene, there would be no excuse Liber could give should those paying for Awadatsu's death accuse him of not acting fast enough.

Gritting his teeth, Liber flicked his wrist bringing one of his hidden needles into his hand. The Assassin's Kiss was held gracefully between two fingers and Liber waited patiently for an opening. Should Bahir make an attack on the magician, Liber had no doubt that the woman would barely have time to cast a spell before being struck. The assassin hidden above would wait for that opportunity to launch a Pressure Prick towards the magician. The needle would be timed perfectly so it would reach Awadatsu's borg just a split second before Bahir's opening attack would land. Ideally, this little bit of extra damage would put stress on Awadatsu's borg from another direction allowing Bahir to break it in a single blow. If Liber succeeded, the attack from his position wouldn't be noticable as anything other than a thin silver glint dancing through the air. The needle would make noise after hitting the ground, but the fighting would likely cover it up and even if it didn't that would not give clear direction as to Liber's position.

Following this attack, Liber would drop low to the roof and lay flat to minimize his profile making him harder to spot as he observed what occurs next following the initial engagement.

The nerve of this woman! All she did was smile. As Bahir neared the woman, she raised her wand to finish what she started of the Fanalis. Seeing her ready something, Bahir stepped off with his explosive first step and closed the distance between them nearly instantly, closing in on her at 10 m/s. His speed took her a bit by surprise, not having noticed the red hair until just then. Without another thought she started to summon the rukh and give it a command. Luckily, Bahir was within striking distance after she was able to change the rukh. Just as she expected, her borg appeared to defend her, but right before Bahir's fist would have made contact with the shield, it shattered. This took the woman by surprise and made her hesitate. Her hesitation resulted in an unnaturally strong fist colliding with her face with C-tier strength, causing her fall back and roll 3 meters behind where she was previously standing.

Bahir, however, didn't notice the shattering borg as intently as the woman did. He just figured her to be weaker than he initially thought she was. Even so, his instinct wouldn't let him give her any time to gather her wits. As far as he could tell, she was trying to kill him. Which, of course, she was, that just drove him to either want to kill her himself or at least incapacitate her. He walked over to the woman's lying body with his fists clenched and arms tense. He stood over the woman and looked by her hand, seeing the wand. He leaned down and picked it up, snapping it in two and tossing it behind him.

Before he could turn around, Bahir sees the woman starting to get to her feet. He scowled down at the woman as she was kneeling trying to recollect herself and stomped on the ground, inciting his downed prey. A crack formed beneath her and enveloped the lower half of one of her legs. He stared down at her as she struggled to get her leg out of the fissure. As the woman looked up at the young fanalis, Bahir brought his foot upwards to crash into her stomach. He held back enough to keep from doing any lethal damage, but he knew for a fact that the woman would at least lose consciousness. When she collapsed this time, Bahir nudged her and turned her over onto her back. The young man looked her over to see if there was anything different about her. She seemed to be of Kou descent. Now what though? He couldn't just leave her on the street could he? He looked around to make sure that none of the city guards were approaching them while he tried to figure out what to do with the woman.

((Derp, for some reason I was thinking the magician was B-rank and not just the damage needed to defeat her v.v I didn't realize I would break her borg. Good catch though. I just hope the NPC's lack of retaliation doesn't count against us.))

Liber was not expecting the magician to be taken down so easily. Was Awadatsu really that much weaker than the other Kou soldiers Liber had been sent to kill thus far? Or was this a testament to the fanalis man's power and potential? Watching as Bahir grounded the female magician and incapacitated her with a powerful blow, Liber considered the prospect of revealing himself. While Awadatsu appeared to be out of commission, there was little doubt in his mind that she still lived. Some might see it as a blessing that their target was beaten for them, but Liber's plans were somewhat thrown into disarray by this development. If the man below did not take her life then Liber's contract would not be complete. Under normal circumstances, Liber would do everything in his power to keep his presence at the scene of an assassination to a minimal. He took some pride in the title "Phantom Assassin" under which he was trained and did not enjoy the thought of revealing himself to Bahir lest he risk Awadatsu falling into the hands of Reim's guards where her life might be saved due to the clout of her superiors.

Caught between the risk of exposure and failure, Liber weighed his options and eventually settled on attempting a bit a trickery to get his desired outcome without giving himself away too greatly. Liber quietly inched further away from the edge of the roof until he would not be visible even if Bahir looked directly towards him. There, out of line of sight, Liber would speak through his diaphragm in a lowered voice disguised to be a bit more gruff than his usual smooth tone. "Well done! But that woman was marked for death by another's hands. You've stolen someone's prey..." Liber then quickly backed away further and listened carefully for any reply from Bahir as he dropped down the other side of the building and used his knowledge of Reim's streets along with shadowy alleyways to change position. Because of this, there would be several seconds of pause before Liber spoke again, but when he did, it was in a higher pitched voice coming from another direction to give the illusion that there were multiple people watching Bahir from the shadows. Not once, would Liber move into position where he could actually see Bahir which could potentially work against him should the fanalis decide to move about or chase down these phantom voices, but it was worth trying to obscure efforts to detect the assassin."Once a hunt has begun, it must not be interrupted...You must finish her. If you do, there will be pay and even more employment in the future should you wish."

With the offer made, Liber set out to relocate once again, listening for Bahir's response all the while.

That woman has been marked for death... You've stolen someone's prey... The fanalis's ears twitched at the new voice. It was low and a bit abrasive. It definitely caught the young man's attention. His eyes darted to the area where the voice came from. Bahir was on alert mode still, treating everything as potential danger. His ears twitched a bit more as he heard faint sounds. Foot steps. The source, whoever it was, was skilled in being stealthy. It was almost impossible for Bahir to keep up with the body's movements. This person has very light feet... He couldn't help but wonder about.

Before he could try and locate the source of the voice, another voice reached Bahir's ears as well. This time the voice was a bit higher, but it's topic was the same. Once a hunt has begun, it must not be interrupted... The theme of the two voices struck home with the young fanalis. They reminded him of someone close. The very man who taught him how to live the life he has so far. They sounded just like Bahir's father. The second voice was replaced by the voice of Bahir's father in his mind. You have to finish it, son. We can't leave a job half done. Bahir's eyes went from the direction of the voices down to the woman. She was a mark. Someone who Bahir should have no problem stealing life from. He was able when he was fourteen, what was the difference now?

Raising his head from the woman's body, Bahir drew his knife from his scabbard. He turned the woman over and stood over her. His knife poised and ready to strike down at the woman's body. He looked back in the direction of the voice and decided to speak up, "What reason was this woman marked? Why is she a target?"

Liber spotted a clothesline as he reached one of the larger buildings in the area and he leapt into the air drawing his Swordsman's cloth from around his abdomen. His nimble arm swept through the air guiding the malleable blade upwards to wrap around and architectural ornament. Supple muscles dancing along Liber's body flexed and pulled him up to the rooftop where he would land quietly in a crouched position. Leaving his cloth-like blade secured on the hold, Liber took a few Blending Steps towards the opposite edge with a piece of cloth he'd taken from the drying laundry. By the time he emerged in view over the edge of the building, Liber's face and hair would both be hidden in a well made wrapping.

This left only Liber's bright maroon eyes uncovered so as to see the kill for himself and confirm his target's death. The fanalis had cleverly positioned himself so the moon would be directly behind his silhouette. The angle Bahir would need to look up at to see Liber would make the assassin's features highly difficult to see in the darkness of the night. "That woman was among the elite group of Kou soldiers whom invaded Reim." The now masked fanalis declared. Now that his silhouette was visible, Bahir would be able to see that Liber had a very lean form and what looked to be a slightly curving sword in hand, the true nature of his Swordsman's Cloth not discernable from his point of view. The assassin's other hand remained empty and was placed upon Liber's hip in a seemingly carefree manner.

"Even after killing the emperor and slaughtering the fanalis corps, this fiend did not have her fill of chaos yet. You are the sixth victim in a spree of floodings caused by the woman. Her name...is Awadatsu..." Liber's voice was low this time and it simmered with underlying spite towards the mark. He immediately realized his mistake to have let his personal feelings through in his tone, but it was too late take the words back. Liber simply had to proceed with more caution so as not to drop more potential clues as to his identity.

Bahir was looking down at the woman as the voice returned. He was studying her body to see where the best areas for him to strike her would be. His initial thoughts were the woman's lungs. She was already unconscious. Once both of the lungs were deflated, nature would take care of the rest. There was also the main artery in her throat. It would be a bit messier, but it would get the job done faster. He also thought about her liver. Another place that would take a little longer, but if he stabbed her just right, it wouldn't be as messy.

As the voice continued, Bahir's ears twitched and traced the location. He turned his head to look up at the source and was surprised to actually see something this time. Why was this person revealing himself? Am I next after I take care of this woman? No... he said additional employment was an option. Perhaps I intrigued him somehow? The Fanalis's mind was wandering as he stared at the silouette standing over him. He couldn't tell much except that the person was in fact male. He had never encountered a woman with a voice as low as what was coming from this figure. I... I was the sixth?! Bahir's eyes widened a bit. The woman's name barely made it to his ears before situated himself on top of the woman, his knees resting on her biceps.

Bahir noticed the woman's eyes start to open and immediately put his left hand on her mouth. Once her eyes opened, Bahir brought his dagger across her throat, slicing the carotid artery. The blood from the cut shot up and a bit of it got on his right elbow and his lower abdomen. He didn't mind the warm, sticky fluid. The woman had nearly destroyed his home, attempted to take his life, and took the lives of other Remano citizens. Bahir stood over the lifeless body and looked towards the figure on top of the building to his right. "Mark terminated.." His voice was low and a little quieter than it was before. Reaching down and grabbing the woman's shirt, Bahir lifted her and carried her towards an alley a little ways away from his building. Throwing her into the shadowy alleyway, Bahir returned to his home and grabbed his cloak, sheathing his dagger. I can't be here in the morning.. He thought to himself. Taking a step outside of his home, he didn't look back up for the figure, but he spoke to the man: "What about the pay?" He wasn't sure if the man was still there or not, but had a feeling that he was.

Liber watched Bahir's reaction carefully as the information that he had been the sixth victim seemed to startle him. The fanalis assassin's bright eyes observed with satisfaction as the stranger was upon Awadatsu in a flash. It was too soon to speak as to what motivated this sudden burst of killing intent. Had Bahir acted on some form of personal justice? Or was his following murder of Awadatsu driven by more sinister emotions? Either way, Bahir had proven in that moment that he was capable of taking a life without panicking. Perhaps he could be of use to Liber after all. Finding himself in need of keeping a low profile, Liber could not help but see the value of hiring another killer anonymously when the contracts came in.

As Bahir went about his business of moving the body and retrieving something from his soaking wet house, Liber knelt down and pulled a shingle from the roofing he was standing upon. Using one of his needles, the fanalis carved a message into the shingles surface:

"Primus Street. Two Days. Hollowed Stump."

It had on it the location, time, and dead drop where Liber planned on leaving payment for Bahir as well as where he would leave instructions on where to find a new contract should he want the work. Dirty as it may be, the pay was good and with employers like Liber's, one could be sure that the blood being spilled belonged to people of rotten spirit.

Liber would then leap backwards and descend the building he had climbed while using a swipe of his arm to unwrap his Swordsmans Cloth. By the time Liber landed he had wrapped the long flexible blade around his waist again and returned the clothing used for his disguise to the line he'd taken it from. The fanalis then sprinted to a new location where he could see the exit of Bahir's building from the shadows and kept watch until the man emerged. When he asked about payment, Liber tossed the shingle like a skipping stone causing it to glide across the paved ground before coming to a stop just a few feet away from the man. With that done, Liber departed down an alley way and swiftly left the area.

Bahir blinked for a moment as he couldn't hear the movement of another person. Before he could think about anything, a single roof shingle skipped along the ground and came to a skidding stop directly in front of it. That guy gained some major style points for timing and throwing that shingle just right. It was almost as if they were in a type of work of fiction with how perfectly it all worked out. Bahir looked down at the shingle and crouched down, picking it up and reading the inscription on it. "Primus Street. Two days. Hallowed stump." Bahir looked at the shingle silently and then a grin spread across his face. So this is where he would pick up his payment? Perhaps its where the young Fanalis will receive the other jobs that the voices alluded to earlier. Either way, Bahir decided immediately that it was a meeting that he wouldn't miss out on.

He was about to stand back up before he caught a glimpse at what seemed like something on the ground. Resuming his standing position, Bahir kept his eyes on what he thought he saw. He moved over to it and crouched once more, picking up what he saw. It was a weird looking needle. It was a little thicker than most needles and a lot longer. What in the world...? He thought to himself as he looked around. It was around the same spot where the magician's borg was broken. Figuring it was one of the mysterious voices that spoke to him, he slid the needle into his dagger scabbard. Without a second thought, he began walking towards the outskirts of Remano.
