The Midway
Tempting Fate: Midway [Azix/Garret] Gem_spark_mines_bridge_by_rusty001-d2y5ltv
After climbing the long and twisting staircase one will discover a massive mine. Gold, gems, silver, copper, and any other precious metal or gems that one could think of will be being mined below by the servants of Bifrons. The players will walk in between massive corridors and narrow mining routes. If they are unlucky some of these works might cross their path and give them a challenge. They will need to walk about 300 meters to get to the core of the dungeon where Bifrons lays.

After the Rock Demons were defeated, Azix made sure Garret was fine before proceeding further into the dungeon. His eyes took in the glittering sights for a moment before he focused back on the task at hand. It appeared there were several paths they could take to head deeper into the dungeon. Trusting his intuition, he proceeded through a massive corridor, after taking a glance at Garret to make sure he followed. "Stay close, my friend."

He kept his grip tight on his staff as they walked forward, making sure to check that his Deviant was clear in its scabbard. As it clicked back in place, he felt a sense of inner calm.

Garret stuck close to Azix, making sure to keep an eye out for anything else that was strange that would come up. He looked about carefully, keeping in mind what strange manner of creatures had been appearing as of late. He knew that this place was no longer some strange ruins with plenty of funds for an individual to obtain, but something much more.

He could only hope that by the time they had finished searching through this place, they would know more about these structures and what they were good for. "James, what do you think these creatures could be protecting?" Garret asked Azix.

Gem Miner x4
Tempting Fate: Midway [Azix/Garret] IWic0aK

Abilities:

As Azix and Garret entered the Midway they would eventually be able to spot a group of large Gem Beasts mining the precious minerals and ores from the walls in a seemingly mindless fashion. It was almost as if these beasts were magical constructs made solely for the purpose of mining; but to what end, none would know. The four Gem Miners were at least 40m away and were about 10m apart from one another as they all worked away on the same wall.

The beasts would remain hard at work until the hopeful dungeon capturers got within 30m of them. At this point, the farthest Gem Miner would turn to look in their direction before performing a stomp on the ground. A Growth of Gems would stretch across the pathway to partially block it off. The entire path was not sealed and a way forward remained, however the message was clear as the other miners halted their task and turned to glare at the two magician's in the distance. These beasts would not let the men pass freely.

As the crystal miners came into sight, Garret kept his gaze fixated on the whole of the place. The creatures they had met so far were fantastical, strange beings that could manipulate the world in ways he had not considered. What he had seen so far was nothing, however, compared to what these new creatures did as they had approached. A large group of crystals, almost a forest of them, came rushing towards them as if a river flowing downstream.

Garret moved, hoping Azix would follow, out of the way of what he thought was an incoming attack. When the crystals stopped short, he narrowed his eyes. Is this as far as they go, or were they holding back? Shaking his head, he turned to Azix and patted him on the shoulder. He didn't know the capabilities of these creatures; could they understand what he was would say? He had to be careful.

"Hide behind these crystals." Garret said, aloud. At the same time, he was using hand signals to explain to Azix that he would provide a distraction, and that Azix should follow up on it. "I'll go take them on by myself. Should be easy enough."

Garret once again cast Jagged Flying Ice as he shot off to the opposite side of the crystals. He kept it moving and flew about the heads of the creatures so as to distract them. He never came as close as 5 meters to the creatures, however he flew about to get their attention. If the creatures attacked him, he would gain altitude in order to dodge their initial attacks, and then lower altitude again in order to stick close to the ground for when he had to jump off. His ice spell would not last forever.

Azix followed Garret behind the crystal wall the Gem Miner had launched towards them. He paid attention to the gestures and nodded that he understood. As Garret used his Jagged Flying Ice to swoop around the wall, Azix began gathering the Rukh around himself. He used Distortion to cover a ten meter radius around him in shadows. This prevented him from seeing and would hinder Garret's vision as well, but Garret had seen this spell before and Azix trusted him to stay out of range. To allow him to see, he issued commands to the Rukh, casting Light Vision which formed lenses of light around his eyes, shifting them to see with Night Vision through the shadows. As an added precaution, he used his Cloak of Shadows spell, camouflaging him within the shadows.

With the quick series of spells intact, Azix stepped from around the gem wall and worked his way up to a run towards the closest Gem Miner. He kept an eye on the movement and position of the other Gem Miners, ready to dodge anymore walls they would throw. With his staff in his left hand and his Deviant in his right, he would try to stealthily attack the Gem Miner with his sword. If, as he approached, the Gem Miner appeared to be going in for an attack, Azix would use Phantasm's Redirection to create a clone of himself and distract it. If his hit was successful, he would continue running towards the side of the next Gem Miner, cautiously.

((The crystals were never aimed at either of you. They stretched across the path way to block it off meaning the ability traveled perpendicular of your line of sight.))

The Gem Miners slowly moved from the wall as Garret approached atop his ice magic spell and turned their attention towards him. His distraction served to make the dungeon beasts group together getting closer and closer to one another until they were only a couple meters away from one another. There were a few vain attempts to attack the pesky madoushi as if he were an annoying fly to be swatted. But this all changed when the orange magician approached with his illusory obscurement. The Gem Miners would be unable to see in the darkness and while they were immune to light magic cast on them, this offered no safety when it came to light magic cast on the environment or their opponents. In the cover of darkness the Miners were left with only one option. To attack randomly in hopes that they would strike something.

Two of the Gem beasts would strike each other almost immediately knocking each other onto their backsides but dealing no damage. A third would try to swing it's hands through the air still attempting to swat the blue magician away. The fourth Gem Miner was slamming the ground, but not in the right spot and would find itself quickly dispatched by Azix's attack.

As he had been running, Azix noticed the Gem Miners group together, distracted by Garret's antics above them. Azix's approach covered them in a swath of shadows. His strike had been successful, the gem creature had aimed a sporadic slam in the wrong direction. Keeping his spells sustained, Azix spotted the two Gem Miners lying on the ground. He continued his run and slashed two times at each beast as he ran around them. He kept an eye on their limbs, prepared to dodge as he passed them.

After he hit the second target twice, he dropped his spells. The shadows and the lens around his eyes would dissolve, allowing everyone to see freely. His minor camouflage also shattered into tiny pieces of light as the magoi released. He feinted towards the last one, hoping to give Garret an opportunity to strike.

Garret couldn't see within the shadows Azix had painted across the battlefield, but he had watched from above as Azix had fought. The shadows began to dissipate as he hopped off of the Jagged Flying Ice not too far from the edge of the shadows that were there. He quickly moved in, running towards the creatures while keeping an eye on their movements. One of the creatures had already been taken out, and Garret saw Azix as the man attempted to take out the remaining.

Garret would approach the creatures and attempt to use Water Corrosion if more than one of the creatures survived Azix's attacks, sending out a flurry of kicks and open palmed strikes at their bodies while taking care not to impale any of his body parts on the creatures themselves.

If there were only one remaining, well, Garret would use his Pressurized Strike in order to attempt to dispatch it with a strong palm strike to the creature.

The chaotic thrashings of the Gem Miners in the darkness was a useless effort in the face of a magician who could move freely and see clearly within the shadows. Azix would go on to successfully slash yet another beast of Gem and earth causing it's body to shatter like brittle glass. Unfortunately the magician would not get a chance to make his second attack as lucky blow from the Gem Miner would catch him, partially thanks to the sound created when he defeated the adjacent miner. The blow would deal C-tier damage possibly cracking one of Azix's ribs unless he defended, but even a direct hit would not severely injure the man.

It was shortly after this that the spells fell and Garret moved to strike out at the remaining Gem Miners. His ability was more than enough to shatter the two remaining beasts and earn a victory for the pair. All that remained of the golems now were shards of gems which seemed to be dissolving slowly.

One of the miners on the ground was defeated but the other Gem Miner raised his fist towards Azix. Reacting quickly, he blocked the blow with his Deviant. He dropped the spells, allowing Garret to finish off the two Gem Miners that were left. The golems dissolved into shards of gems which slowly dissolved as Azix let out a deep breath. He turned to Garret, a faint smile curling on his mouth. "Well, Jesse, that was the last of these. Let us see if there are anymore." As he finished, he turned quickly, his cloak flowing behind him and started walking down the corridor. He held his weapons at the ready as he cautiously made his way forward.

Garret nodded. "James, just make sure to keep cover and we'll be alright." The two of them had dispatched the rest of the creatures and were able to move about without worry of the strange attacks. This did not, however, mean that they were willing to lower their guard. Garret kept an eye out around the area in an attempt to keep them informed of any new threat that could come to them while advancing through the dungeon.

"James, there have been quite a few gems about that would likely do wonders on the market. Once we finish exploring this place, we should consider picking them up for selling." Garret had contemplated doing so earlier, but he was unsure of the guardians and how many more would come if they waited around for too long. They could always, of course, make another trip in the future.

Devious Rat x15
Tempting Fate: Midway [Azix/Garret] VRat

Abilities:

The scattering of small feet pitter pattering around the ground would begin to echo throughout the midway. The sounds would seem to be coming from everywhere but were definitely strongest up ahead. After proceeding for 5m, the magician's would finally learn the source of the noise as a large heard of small rat beasts suddenly emerged from the cave walls. There were hundreds of them and many were carrying tiny morsels of molten rock as they scurried past the path to the other end of the wall.

Many of the rodents would disappear back into the highway of cracks and crevices inside the walls, but 15 stayed behind and seemed to be picking up the scraps that had been dropped behind. The beasts were doing a thorough job and wouldn't be moving anytime soon, and would turn violent when approached from less than 15m away.

The magician's would be 20m away when this river of rodents passed by.

It would appear that there were further threats in the Midway, Azix mused to himself. A group of small rat beasts merged from the wall. They quickly passed into the other end of the wall, except for fifteen of them. Azix edged himself closer till he was fifteen and a half meters away, his Staff of Refraction aimed towards the rodents. "Jesse, close your eyes." He muttered as he raised his other hand to shield his vision, a ten meter wide Bright Beam formed in front of his staff. It traveled at fifteen meters per second towards the rats that would deal C-Tier damage. The light from the bright beam could also partially blind anything looking directly at it, leaving moderate afterimages for two posts, hence, the reason for the warning and covering his eyes.

Garret continued to be at the ready as they walked onwards. They had been through fight after fight, and Garret did not let go of his technique. He was on a high alert state, his senses reaching out for danger. When the rodents came crawling across the floor, Azix told Garret to close his eyes.

Close his eyes, Garret did. As he closed his eyes, Garret responded to Azix, saying "Understood, James." When he felt the light lessen against his eyelids, Garret opened his eyes up and would work on any remaining creatures.

Garret did not hesitate to attempt to remove the creatures. In order to deal with the remainder, Garret approached the creatures and continued his Water Corrosion technique, sending out his knees, elbows, fists and feet in order to intercept, or advance and destroy, any rodents with his attacks at 15m/s.

Garret was going to finish as many as he could with what he had.

The small creatures were enjoying their scavenging with an almost adorable innocence as they scurried around collecting bits of molten earth. But the seemingly peaceful appearance was betrayed as a wave of light magic washed over several of the beasts and charred their bodies with heat. Six of the Devious Rats perished from the spell leading the others to hiss and bare their fangs in anger as the small hoard turned its attention towards the approaching magician. The rodents would Pounce upon Garret with violent squeaks of fury readying their claws and teeth to rip into the surface of his skin. The swift blows from the martial arts ability would allow the man to intercept each of the creatures just in time to break their tiny bodies before any damage could be done to him.

None of the rodents actually died, but all were running for the hills trying to escape the opponents who were clearly too much for them.

Between Garret and Azix, the two had managed to wound the Devious Rats enough to send them scurrying away. While it didn't feel as good as killing the creatures, it was the next best thing. Azix nodded to Garret, acknowledging his partner's fine marital art skills, before continuing along the path. The last room they had been in, they had fought two sets of creatures. This room so far had followed the same pattern and Azix could only hope these were the last of the threats they would have to face. He began to wonder if there was anything more to this Dungeon, or if they would be stuck fighting threats for eternity, never managing to proceed forward.
