What I'm bringing Along:

Garret was overlooking a map of a few of the  cities in Reim, mentally ticking off who  they had, and in which part of Reim they  were in. Of course, Garret didn't have a complete grasp on the Zou presence within  Reim, but he had a generalized idea of their  presence with what he had dealt with  personally. As he was looking, a messenger  arrived with a coded missive. Garret took a look at it and began the process of  deciphering the letter.

After decoding, he went back to what he was  doing before hand, but kept the information  in mind and mulled it over. The letter came  from one of their contacts within the city,  urging somebody to pick up some sensitive information that they had found. It did not  provide any details, but was marked as  urgent from an reputable informant from the  underground. He would leave under the cover  of the night, and so whittled his time away preparing for his expedition.

Garret grabbed the essentials; his water  skins, his wand, and his cloak. Of course, he would also need to grab the Huang to pay the informant for the information.  He made his  way outside and began taking alley ways  towards his destination. It would be a long  walk, and his goal was a tavern in a  shaddier part of town than what he normally walked through. He moved quickly and  silently, avoiding guard patrolls as he did  so. As he got closer to the tavern Garret  felt something... Off. He slowed down a bit  and began to move carefully.

It wasn't so much as a strong feeling that  you would have from hearing something  suddenly, something frightening. It was more  like that feeling one got that sent a slight  ripple of something disquiting through your body. Almost an imperceptable wave, one that  you could ignore. Garret knew the signs. He was picking up minor details about the environment that didn't really set in on an obvious level, and it manifested as a bad feeling.

Garret began moving faster again, attempting to wind through the narrow alleyways. The feeling didn't leave, in fact it got stronger as he audibly heard the footsteps approaching him as he attempted to get away. Didn't bring a hook. Didn't think I'd need it. Garret was fairly upset at the situation. Not so much at his predicament, but at his lack of foresight in preparing for such an occurrence on a trip to the 'underground'.  Garret made another sharp turn, running down the alley for a few feet before spinning. He was breathing heavily, having been made to run that far.

His pursuers turned the corner and saw him waiting. They, too were panting. At least, the two in front were. There was a man who was standing tall behind them who seemed just fine. "Looks like you caught us." The man behind the two said, smiling. "Now, there's a little issue that we have here, what with you coming through our place and all, you haven't even paid the toll! Aurios, Spurius, collect our pay from the man."

Garret held out his hand. "You're making a mistake." He brandished his wand, threatening the men in hopes they would leave him alone. Instead, they became cautious in their approach to him. Grunting, Garret cast Jagged Flying Ice and sent a slab of ice the width of the alley way towards the foremost guard. A few of his water skins were depleted of their water, and Garret heard an 'Oomph' come out from one of the guards. Using State Transmutation in conjunction with Water Manipulation Technique Garret turned it into a torrential push of water that knocked the foremast man from a bent over position to an on-the-ground position. The man behind him took the rest of the water, which moved about him and suddenly constricted around his throat with the assistance of the Pressure Control spell.

Garret continued to run, having caught his breath. The man who was originally in the back ran after him, pulling up the thug who had been knocked over by Garret's Jagged Flying Ice. The second man was having a tough time keeping up and quickly fell behind the leader of the group. Garret had thought he lost them for a moment. That was, however, a short lived moment. Though the thug that he had hurt a bit earlier did not appear, Garret had made a mistake in going down a dead-end in his rush to get away.  Garret turned, about ready to make way back down the alley when he saw what must have been the leader come down from that way.

"Trapped like a mouse." The leader said, smiling. "I'm going to make you pay for what you did to Spurius."

Garret laughed a laugh full of confidence. "It is actually you that has been trapped like a mouse," he confided, as if holding on some great secret. "After all, you forgot to take into account my attack from above... TORRENTIAL VORTEX FROM ABOVE!" Garret shouted, brandishing his wand straight up into the air. The leader of the group of thugs was taken by surprise and looked up into the sky, however his words were all a ruse. Jet Stream manifested four streams of water, two striking each of the man's legs while his attention was elsewhere. The leader was wounded heavily, and Garret made his way past him. The leader attempted in vain to swipe at Garret with his blade, but only found it bounce off of Garret's Borg.

Well, that was an adventure. Garret encountered no further troubles on his way to the bar and met up with the informant.  "So, what's this information that you've got for me?"

"Lieutenant Acius wanted me to provide you with these documents. He informed me of an individual you were looking into, whose name happens to be Li Cao." The informant handed over a sealed missive, before continuing. "I took the liberty of looking into this Li Cao, and it turns out he has no few enemies. Actually, I have a client that wants him dead. Li Cao is coming in from Zou in a few days as a diplomat. He'll be making his way from a certain port city to the Reim Empire's capital."

Garret frowned, unsure at first who this Li Cao was. The name sounded familiar, but he couldn't quite place it. He'd check the contents when he got back to the safe house. In the mean time, Garret passed over a sum of Huang. "Thanks for delivering the message. This is a bonus, as a token of my appreciation." Garret left the bar and went back.

When he read the message from Acius, he smiled. So, there are three in total, and this is the first of them? I'll have to prepare right away.
