Job info:

Aharon was excited. The classes he had taken up to this point could be considered by most magicians to be remedial. Even though he could see and communicate with the Rukh like other magicians he had not quite figured out how to use magic in a practical manner beyond the manifestation of the Rukh's protection; the borg. Today was going to change that however. There was a practical test set for today in one of the life magic labs for his basics of defensive magic class, and he was going to shine. As Aharon crossed the Academy grounds on his way to the lab he drew a small  vial filled with a bright amber liquid from his breast pocket. He looked at it carefully, tilting the vessel back and forth. The thick liquid inside moved a bit, but would not slosh around like most. This would be his trump card. Rumor had it that the test would involve some modified creatures that the academy wanted disposed of. If this vial worked like it was supposed to Aharon knew he would have nothing to worry about.

Upon approaching the lab however Aharon's hopes were dashed. There was a sign tacked to the lab's door that read:

"Do not open: Lab closed until further notice. Dangerous occupants inside. DM101 class scheduled for today is cancelled."

"What a joke" Aharon scoffed. "I'm finally ready to prove I belong here, and they cancel the class. Why can't I catch a break?"

Frustrated Aharon decided to ignore the sign's warning, and pushed open the door to the lab. Before him was a complete wreck. Several creatures that resembled humanoid trees were lying on the floor. They had been ripped to pieces with limbs, and bits of random wood strewn about. The culprits in this vicious attack were also present. Four rats of an extremely large size were nibbling on the corpses. The rat closest to the door took notice of Aharon however, and cocked it's head in his direction before turning to the others and letting out a rather ferocious sound.

" Skreee!"

Aharon watched the beasts carefully knowing that he must look like a tastier snack than the tree people the rats had dispatched before, and his assumptions were proven correct as the rats began to inch their way closer to him. The first beast shifted all of it's weight to it's hind legs, and shot forward at him like a bullet with it's teeth bared ready to strike.

This time Aharon was ready. He allowed the magoi within him to rise, and concentrate. It welled up inside of him until just before the beast made contact, and then exploded from his body in a brilliant display of white light. The light wrapped itself around Aharon's frame, and expanded into the shape of a solid sphere. The rat's attack landed solidly against the magical barrier causing it to crack. Within seconds the feeble defense shattered leaving the rat at Aharon's feet, but the boy more or less unharmed.

It was at this point Aharon scanned the room. He had an idea of what the vial he brought with him would do based on the description his father had given him however the young man was not certain of it's full power. The lab was still full of furniture and equipment. Items the youth could not begin to dream of replacing should he damage them. The implications of that destruction were not lost on him however there was now a more pressing need. Aharon drew the vial from his breast pocket once more, and removed the stopper.

At once the liquid began to drain out of the vessel, and a certain tension filled the room. The temperature shot up, and there was a flash of blinding light. From floor to ceiling, and in a 20m diameter a circular column of intense light burst forth enveloping each of the rats in it's wake. Unfortunately the collateral damage Aharon expected manifested completely. When the magic died down there was little left of the lab's furnishings, and the various instruments about the room were blackend with soot. The rats however were done for, and that was enough for him.

End
