Job Overview: A fearsome beast has appeared nearby a war-ravaged town, all but wiping out those who didn't evacuate.  Take it out before it can claim any more lives!

Enemy:
Enemy Name: Corrupted Beast: Hellhound
Enemy Tier: B
Damage Required to Defeat: A
Description: An enormous wolf-like creature that stands two meters tall and is five meters long from face to tail.  Its fur is pitch black, and appears to be covered in a kind of black grease that occasionally drips off of it.  The beast does not feel pain or exhaustion, and fights with its full strength until slain.  Magicians are able to see Black Rukh being drawn towards it.
Abilities:

  • Aligned with Fire (Passive): The Hellhound is completely immune to fire/heat attacks, and takes 1/2 damage from combination magic that includes the first magic type.
  • Dark Claws: The Hellhound swipes horizontally in front of it, delivering B-tier damage with its claws and throwing an opponent up to five meters backwards.
  • Dark Fangs: The Hellhound lunges forward with its massive jaw and bites down on an opponent for B-tier damage.
  • Hellflame Breath: By breathing deeply first, the Hellhound releases a spout of flame that is one meter wide and ten meters long.  The fire deals B-tier damage to any foe struck, and lights flammable materials on fire instantly.

Description: About the size of an actual rabbit, and more of a nuisance than anything.  The clouds of dust brought to life by ambient magical energy cause coughing fits and are a chore to eradicate.
Abilities:

  • Bunny Bump: The dust bunny jumps at you at high speed to deliver D-tier damage.
  • Bunny Bounce: The dust bunny bounds away quickly, dashing three meters backwards to escape damage.





Job Name: Dreadful Discovery
Job Rank: D
Job Location: Magnostadt
Job Reward: 50 exp, 3,000 huang
Job Prerequisites: Completed Teacher Troubles
Job Overview: Having studied the sample, the instructor informs you that Black Rukh have somehow been infused into the beast, giving it access to astonishing magical power, but quite possibly stripping it of sanity.  She sends you on your way, but keeps the sample for further research.




Job Name: An Unbearable Foe
Job Rank: B
Job Location: Magnostadt Plains
Job Reward: 200 exp, 15,000 huang
Job Prerequisites: Completed Dreadful Discovery
Job Overview: Before you can gain passage on a caravan back to Kou, you are met with another corrupted beast.  Slay it so you can return and warn others.

Enemy:
Enemy Name: Corrupted Beast: Ursus
Enemy Tier: B
Damage Required to Defeat: A
Description: A three meter tall bear with pitch black fur, and covered in oily black sludge.  Its claws are twice the size of any normal bear.  It does not feel pain or exhaustion, and fights until slain.  Magicians are able to see Black Rukh being drawn towards it.
Abilities:

  • Aligned with Strength (Passive): The Ursus takes 1/2 damage from physical attacks, and from magic that is either wholly or partially composed of the seventh magic type.
  • Maul: The Ursus swipes downward once with its claws, dealing A-tier damage to anything hit.  This can be used successively.
  • Bellow: The ursus breaths in deeply before letting loose a powerful blast of air in a roar that deals B-tier damage to anything hit, and sends it flying backwards up to fifteen meters.

Job Overview: Upon arriving in Kou once again, you find a town in turmoil.  An unknown attacker is actively killing the citizens, and yet cannot be found.  Get in there and put this thing to rest!

Enemy:
Enemy Name: Corrupted Beast: Chameleon
Enemy Tier: B
Damage Required to Defeat: A
Description: A horse sized Chameleon, covered with oily black sludge.  While physically weak, it is blindingly fast, and can turn invisible at will.  It does not feel pain or exhaustion, and fights until slain.
Abilities:

  • Aligned with Light (Passive): The Chameleon is immune to Light magic attacks, and can turn itself invisible at will.
  • Verbal Lashing: The Chameleon shoots its tongue at high speed at an opponent, dealing C-tier damage, and can choose to stick to the target.
  • Reel'em In: The Chameleon retracts its tongue, and then either flings the what is stuck ten meters for C-tier damage, or chews the target for C-tier damage.
  • High Beams: After a brief charge, blinding flashes erupt from the Chameleon's eyes, dealing D-tier damage and also temporarily blinding foes that looked directly at it for 2 posts.

Job Name: A Root of Evil

Job Overview: At last, someone has found where the majority of these beasts have been emerging.  But this is no time to celebrate.  Go kill this final enemy before things get really out of hand.

Enemy:
Enemy Name: Corrupted Beast: Dreadroot
Enemy Tier: A
Damage Required to Defeat: Omega
Description: An old tree, about ten meters high, and two meters thick at the base, infected by Black Rukh.  An oily, black sludge coats its form, and seems to seep from an enormous eye about one meter up from the base.  This beast is immobile, and does not attack directly, instead spawning smaller beasts to defend the main body.  Four Saplings are present at the beginning of the fight.
Abilities:

  • Aligned with Life: The Dreadroot is immune to damaging Life Magic, and takes 1/2 damage from combination magic that uses the 8th magic type.  Additionally, any healing magic used within thirty meters is immediately absorbed by the Dreadroot.
  • Spawn Sapling: The Dreadroot creaks before growing and dropping a Sapling from its branches.
  • Immortality: The Dreadroot is benefited by a B-Tier healing effect every five seconds.


Enemy Name: Corrupted Beast: Sapling
Enemy Tier: C
Damage Required to Defeat: C
Description: Small humanoid trees no more than two meters tall, and coated with an oily, black sludge.  They do not feel pain or exhaustion, and fight until slain.  They are not strong enough to exist on their own however, and die immediately if the Dreadroot is slain.
Abilities:

  • Sip Sap: The Sapling clutches onto its foe and pierces its skin with wooden fangs.  It then drinks the blood or fluids of the enemy for C-Tier damage every post, while healing itself for the same amount.
  • Clumsy Bludgeon: The Sapling swings its wooden arm at an opponent for D-Tier damage.  If it connects, it will immediately attempt to use Sip Sap.

Black rukh doesn't work like this, in my opinion. It isn't something a creature can be injected with like some sort of parasite or vaccine, and even if it was, I fail to see how it would give magical powers and cause the person/creature to be insane.

I'll explain. We know from lore that Black Rukh cause feelings of despair in great concentrations, and that in turn causes more Black Rukh to gather. This can become so great as to cause people to fall into depravity and curse their fate. So we know they are self-propagating.

Black Rukh can also be used to perform magic just like White Rukh can, however users of Black Rukh have access to all of the Black Rukh around them in the same way that a magi does. This is shown with Al-Thamen, and moreso with Arba specifically, with her having found a way to dye someone's Rukh black using magic, and using this technique to create Al-Thamen. So we know that Black Rukh give access to huge magical potential.

When a ton of Black Rukh gather in a very small area and are condensed, we have the creation of Dark Djinn. Dark Djinn on their own are engines of destruction with a connection to a magic type. The first we see is the Gravity Dark Djinn in the manga/anime.

So my quest chain involves beasts that you could consider failed Dark Djinn. They are beings suffused with great amounts of Black Rukh, but not enough to cause them to become full Dark Djinn. Negative world changing events such as our current war in Kou would naturally attract huge amounts of Black Rukh. Without the specific direction of Al-Thamen, they wouldn't condense enough to form Dark Djinn, but i theorize that they could latch onto something as a vehicle, force them to fall into depravity, and then further collect inside the being. They would begin to take on a magical effect, but never quite get to the point of fully becoming a Dark Djinn. Since Black Rukh act as a kind of corrupting force, i don't see a reason that this couldn't happen.

From what we've seen, Black Rukh experiments only really manifest when someone makes it happen. Not very many people know how to do those experiments, so there wouldn't really be anyone to set it in action. Black Rukh doesn't have a mind of its own to the point it turns creatures rukh black, further reiterating the point made before. I doubt an animal would even become depraved. Why would it? They aren't like the humanoid races of the world. They just do what their instincts tell them and have no concept of fate.

Unfortunately i think we are just at odds with this. And i don't really want to rework the chain to be like lab experiments or something because that has frankly been done to death. So i'll just call this a loss and move on.
