Ustad had decided that it was time for him to train himself a bit to be able to defend himself only when it was absolutely necessary. Recently he had been attacked by an angry customer but also there was the surprising situation with the lion when they were up in the mountain of Merridia. He of course was able to handle both of these situations but it was not enough. He was not a fighter but an architect so he never learned how to fight but it was growing ever clear that he needed to become capable of self defense.

He was in the onion dome on top of his residence as he planned out how he was going to fight. What he realized about himself is that he needed to think of this differently then learning how to fight. Fighting and being an architect really were not all that different if one really thought about it. Both used weapons just for different purposes. That and their physiques could be seen as similar since architects have to be accustomed to hard work and heavy lifting so a fit body was a must. Also there was the repeated practice of their tools which equated to muscle memory similar to that of a warrior with a sword.

So instead of swinging a sword like a sword or a mace like a mace he needs to use swords like a saw and a mace like a hammer. That was what his body knew and what would be best for him. He would not be learning new techniques or martial arts and would instead just be repurposing all of the architecture and construction techniques that he already knew. He would spend several days thinking long and hard on this process and how to best use it before he felt like he had come upon a suitable solution.

The next week would be training with his tools as if they were weapons, swinging the sawblade in a swordlike motion and freely movie the hammer as if it was a mace or a morning star. He would even practice with axes, poles and other tools that were a common part of his trade. Anything that he may happen to have on hand when he needs to fight in those ever so rare situations.

Not one would be work on these moves and “techniques” but he would also switch to and from training his mind and stamina. He felt that his body was in good enough shape but architecture was slow and steady work while fighting was bursts of energy, so he needed to build up his endurance through running and various other exercises, most while using his own construction materials.

He would spend close to a month on all of this before he felt like he had accomplished what he had originally planned. He would need to keep up with this practice and work but for now he felt like he had drilled this well into this architect body.
