Part 1 of 3: Twisting Paths

“We saw some of the knights earlier today as well” The guard said after they and Jumanah joked around about the lights she had just fought. She was hoping to find out if there were anymore of them running around causing issues. If there were she was hoping to do some good and get some practice in battle wise. “They went into the plains but were not certain if they were the same ones or some new ones off the top of the head.” He elaborated pointing in the direction of the plains. Jumanah looked over before bowing her head to the men who nodded back to her to accept her head bow.

“Thank you for your assistance.” She said to the two guards respectfully.

“Your welcome just stay safe out there, never know what you’ll run into.” The other warned Making Jumanah pause for a moment before nodding a bit. She knew that fact all too well on a very deep level. She walked down the path to the plains biting her bottom lip a little. She hoped that no one was getting hurt out in this area…. The people of the plains have suffered enough for several lifetimes. She hiked her way out taking a few breaks here and there. By nightfall she reached a tribe’s land that very openly was willing to let her rest there for the night.

They didn't really have much space for people to squeeze into the densely populated tents but they said she could rest outside of one and gave her some blankets and a pillow for comfort along with a small bowl of food which was the most they could share at the moment. Jumanah knew not every tribe was well off or properly supplied, and with some more of the recent things going on it was likely a bit too risky for them to leave their tribe grounds to hunt. So she did not complain; she simply gratefully thanked the people for the hospitality, ate her food and helped clean up after herself and the joint meal before going to her resting spot and laying down with her staff for the night. It felt nice being a part of a community like this again, even if it was just a brief visit as a stranger.

She stared at her staff that laid beside her gently touching its metal with the pads of her fingers. She wondered if it wasn’t the bandits, would it have been the tyrant to over run her people….? The knights in hunt of their own selfish goals uncaring who they attack in order to get their own goals complete? Were her people no matter what route just fated to be slaughtered…? Was it her fate to always fail to return home? To chase a goal that will only lead to further suffering? She had to believe her fate was brighter… would lead to something better this time. She hoped everyone if they could see her now would be proud of who she was becoming, what she was doing. That they were not ashamed of her past failure.

She didn’t know what would come after all of this, what to do, what to become, how to live without a new clear goal. She closed her eyes shedding a small tear gently caressing the staff’s metal as she drifted to sleep.

She a while later was woken up to screams of surprise and shouting men. Her eyes grew wide as she shot forward to sit up. Sounds all of them things she never wanted to hear ever again. That still burned inside her with a sense of familiarity and dread. She gripped her staff pulling it to her side as she saw 5 knights marching through the tribe's center holding a woman by her hair shouting out loudly as the others split off to shove around the men who tried to fight back against them and grab some of the  supplies laying about. “You have until my patience wears thin to give us your valuables and tell us all you know about any dungeons that may be around these parts.”

He said with a sickly grin that too much pleasure in his own actions was tossing the woman to the side by her hair. The woman cried out in pain as she tumbled across the ground until likely her young son grabbed her gently to stop her rolling and to give her some moral support. “If you fail to do so your lives and supplies shall be forfeited for the glory of Sasan! And you shall die with joy knowing your sacrifices will help further the noble country greatly.” He said outstretching his arms with a bright smile that only someone overflowing with the concept of his own glory and pride could do so without the fear of drowning in such things…. Drown… huh. She got up then walked over pretending ehr staff was helping her walk slowly gaining the attention of the group who looked towards her with a wide range of snarls and grins.

“Ah young one! DO you have the information we seek?” He asked in a way that almost felt hostile in a way despite his attempt at sounding welcoming. It was like he was daring her to try something.

Jumanah nodded softly then “Yes my lord” She said politely and timidly. “I am a traveling bard, And I have heard a song in regards to this dungeon you speak of.” She explained making the group smile pleased. “If you wouldn’t mind could I possibly humbly present the song to you?” She asked once again timidly to try and appear defenseless.

The leader chuckled and nodded. “Of course my dear! Present us with your song!” He said happily.

Jumanah smiled softly to them “Thank you my lord” She said starting to sing a fairly racey paced song as music started to play from her staff as she did so. “The fear that freezes you up, Will beat you down, To make you feel as though you may drown, Will tear at your will, And may even kill.” She said as she shifted her staff forward and water flooded forward encasing the unsuspecting knights as she casted out Drowning Fear for 30 Magoi slowly drowning the knights within the tide doing B Tier Damage to the lot of them. She watched coldly now as the water dispersed letting the out cold knight's fall to the ground.

The tribes people watched on in concern though when they saw them unmoving they came out further thanking her. She stared at them with displeasure for a while before letting the look fade and smiling softly to the people accepting their thank yous before helping them deal with the knights bodies  which mostly consisted of tieing them up and moving them far from the tribe's lands. That night Jumanah returned to the tribe and took a few shifts with the other guards to watch out for more knights between resting. There are clearly more of these knights around… and she would not allow them to invade another tribe if she could help it. They already had enough to deal with.
