Job Details:

The shrill caws of seagulls echoed in the distance as Aoife ate breakfast by her window. Her roommate was out, AGAIN, probably in the bedroom of one of her many gentlemen callers with whom she spent her time. Aoife didn't mind the solidarity and she was quite grateful her roommate spent the night in other rooms instead of hers. The sun was delightfully bright this day and Aoife casually took bites of fruit as she sunbathed in her fetching yet very private negligee she often slept in. She outstretched her arms above her head as she felt the tingle of blood rush faster and faster to every part of her body and stood up from her chair, feeling the warm breeze against her body. It was a fine day and Aoife was not going to let this day off go to waste. She quickly dressed into her best outfit--a micro-mini and shawl--and left her bedroom, casually walking down the halls of her dormitory with her staff in tow. The heels of her boots click-clacked against the marble flooring as she made her way to the city proper, enjoying the sights of the town. She made her stop at the general store, browsing at the wares offered until she overheard a conversation between two older women.

"Karla, did you hear? They say some thief stole this fancy book from one of those professors?

"Who cares Edna?

"The old codger is offering up a hefty reward for whoever finds it! I care! I want to be paid!

Aoife wished they'd spoken more about it but it seems like the conversation hit a lull. The window-shopping continued and she perused the rest of the wares. She saw a few trinkets that would look great as decorations in her room and other tchotchkes that she found appealing. She playfully tossed around a few fruits she picked up, accidentally dropping a few in the process. She chortled at her clumsiness and restored the fruits back to their original splendor and placed them back on the shelves. Aoife had a way of embracing the embarrassing moments in her life and turning them into a learning experience, or a moment of comedy, whichever felt the most appropriate to describe it at the time. When she returned all of the dropped fruits to their rightful places, she noticed a man in the store. He was tall and tan--quite handsome too--Aoife found herself staring a bit too long. They made brief eye contact and Aoife jumped, startled that she might be thought of as a stalker. As quickly as her gaze met with the man's, she hopped out of the store, walking quickly to avoid a potentially uncomfortable social situation.

"I suppose I could go look for this book thief...but where would he even be...?" Aoife thought to herself. She never found herself loitering in the "bad side" of town and as a Magnostadt Academy student, it would never behoove her to actually wander into those parts of town unless she was asking for trouble. What could her lead be? Perhaps the library itself? But that was too far from where she was now...

xxxxxx It was a long night into another short morning. A lithe woman sleeping soundly upon his bare chest. He didn't know her name yet she always seemed to visit him for favors. The sun shone through the veiled window creating a dim light within the room. Setekh looked over to his roommates bed which was neatly made and empty as usual. He gently flipped the girl off of him, covering her nude body with the musty comforter. Stepping into the bathroom, he looked at himself in the mirror. A mess of a man stared back at him. He let out a heavy sigh, using the bowl of fresh water inside to cleanse his face. After washing up he emerged from the room. The girl had already gathered her things and left. He straightened up quickly before getting dressed. A long white tunic showing his chest and midriff in tasteful cutouts with black pants along with some plain boots. Setekh grabbed his staff, strapping it to his back before leaving the academy.

xxxxxx A trip to the store was on the agenda. Word buzzed around about a book thief which intrigued him but there were so many different stories it became confusing. He walked around browsing the wares, peeking through the shelving at a woman who was tossing around fruit. A chuckle escaped his lips at her clumsiness. It was amusing but he eventually averted his gaze as she ceased her actions. He walked closer to her location and noticed she had been staring at her. Setekh locked eyes with her momentarily, smiling faintly. The girl seemed to be in quite a rush as she suddenly left the store. Out of curiosity, he followed behind her nonchalantly into the more bad parts of town. The woman seemed lost but she was still calm. Her rambling clarified that. Setekh came up from behind her, resting his cold hand upon her shoulder. "Perhaps down the road further," he would say with a smile on his face. His gesture came from a good place but he instantly regretted his decision to approach her due to his sudden creepiness.

"Wha--ah!" Aoife jolted as a cold touch caressed her shoulder. Aoife was not afraid of touch, no, she was comfortable with that, it was more the shock of being touched that frightened her. She skirted around only to see the handsome man in the store behind her, smiling ever so effervescently at her. Aoife quickly regained her composure, taking a deep breath and rubbing her hands on her hips as part of some sort of ritual to compose herself.

"You, uh, you frightened me. I guess I'm not used to being tapped from behind...by a finger, I mean, you know, I am just not used to visitors from behind--AH. AHEM. You surprised me when you touched me from behind. I mean...ah I quit. You surprised me!" Aoife hung her head in shame as she let out a flurry of nervous laughter at her rambling. Touched me from behind? Not used to visitors from behind? She might as well just bend over and yell "OPEN FOR BUSINESS" with that sort of language. Regardless, Aoife was determined to rescue herself from this awful, embarrassing, uncomfortable situation.

"So, a book thief. You seem to know where he is? You said "Perhaps down the road further" which could mean that the book thief is perhaps down the road further, right? Or are you the book thief?" Aoife rambled. At the very end of her sentence, her mouth made a chattering noise, almost as if her body was so intensely shaking from embarrassment that her mouth just let out an involuntary laughter. She had never been so nervous before, but she had also never been surprised from behind by a man she considered attractive. This definitely felt like the worst moment in Aoife's life.

xxxxxx Setekh quickly removed his hand when she jolted and moved away from him. Her smiles soon turned to rambling as she tried to save herself from an amusing innuendo. His shocked expression soon turned to a grin followed by laughter. It was difficult to stop himself from laughing at her despite how guilty he felt. After letting it all out, he cleared his throat and regained his composure to a degree. "I'm so sorry," he apologized, still giggling, "That was a good one!" He was interested in what else this girl had to offer. Setekh hadn't laughed that hard in a long time so it was a good change of pace. His eyes traveled from her face and down to her body, examining her nice figure. She had quite the rack. He shook his head before making eye contact with her again. "My apologies, again," he would excuse himself again in case she noticed his stares.

xxxxxx She happened to change the conversation back onto the thief. He placed his hand on his chin in thought. "Hmm... I am certainly not the book thief," he would say, lifting up her chin with his finger seductively. "Are you?" The insides of his head were cringing at his performance but he couldn't keep up the act for long. He let out a laugh himself, not able to take himself seriously. "I'm just teasing you," he admitted, "My name is Setekh. I'm a student in the academy." He at least owed her his name for making her so nervous. She was practically shaking. "Calm down, I won't bite," he reassured her, giving her a gentle smile.

Aoife felt his finger lightly touch her chin and move it upward, their eyes connecting in some sort of mesmerizing gaze. Her body felt hot, a little flush, and she felt her cheeks turn red from embarrassment. Or was it a different feeling--something unfamiliar? She laughed nervously as he removed his hand from her and let out a laugh himself. There was a wave of relief that rushed over her as he admitted he was teasing. Well...that was certainly different for her. She was certain he ogled her up and down. She was confident in her appearance; she worked very hard to look as appealing as possible.

"Setekh? I am Aoife...it's nice to meet you," Aoife replied, backing away slightly from her male companion, "So, uh, it sounds like you heard about the thief. We're both out here...and wondering about whoever stole the book...should we go look for it?" Aoife was uncharacteristically coy about the whole situation but she was determined to be as effervescent as she normally was. She took a step back from him and started off down the road some.

"I heard a rumor he was hanging out at this seedy pub in the east side of town...care to join me?" Aoife motioned her hand toward Setekh to follow her. She flashed an innocent smile as if to say this would be a wonderful adventure. Though, there was no denying Aoife felt a lot better about having a man accompany her into some of the more uncouth parts of town so she wouldn't have to fend for herself.

xxxxxx He looked shocked when she invited him to search for the thief with her. Though he didn't think about it too much. "Sure. I don't have anything better to do anyway," he said, transitioning into a loud yawn. The magician would smile at his peer before trailing behind her. His eyes wandered all over the place. The place they were in was dull, unexciting. But that was most places. He couldn't wait to recover all of his strength so he could leave this place. Setekh rubbed the back of his neck as he sighed quietly. His scars ached with phantom pains every time he caught sight of a rope or chains. He would wince occasionally but he was used to it by now.

xxxxxx As they walked, he caught sight of a pub. There were a bunch of men outside ogling Aoife with their drinks in hand. Setekh would place his hand on her shoulder again and whisper into her ear, "Maybe it's better if you stay out here. If you need help, just shout." She was a nice girl to him and he didn't want to see her get harassed. Even the thought of it made him irritated. Though she was probably capable of taking care of herself, all he could think about was if his sister was in her shoes. "I'll be right out," he said, smiling at her.

xxxxxx Regardless of whether she decided to follow him or not, he would make his way inside. Not being a regular, he got a decent amount of stares but everything went back to normal eventually. Setekh wasn't sure what this thief looked like but he was familiar with the books. Especially after spending hours putting them away in the library. Out of the corner of his eye, he spotted a scrawny looking man shove a rectangular object into his bag in a hurry. Setekh was suspicious and acted upon it, walking over to him. "Oi. What do you have there?" he asked, pointing to the bag.

xxxxxx The man's face went white. He shoved Setekh to the side and ran out of the pub. Setekh groaned, rushing out of the pub after him but he was no where to be seen. "Hey, Aoife, do you know which way he went? I think I found him." He was excited and his tone of voice made it clear. To her, he would look like a kid who is the tagger in a game of tag. He was practically bouncing on his toes to go after the guy.

AOIFE REIS
Aoife could have chewed out the man right then and there for thinking she was too delicate to enter the seedy pub, but all she could do was nervously giggle and agree politely with Setekh. There was something about his touch that reduced her to nothing more than a compliant girl in total agreement with whatever came out of his mouth. As Setekh walked confidently into the establishment, Aoife decided to wait outside, her arms covering her body from the ogling stares of patrons outside of the bar. Perhaps this is why Setekh had told her to wait inside? But what if the thief was in there? Two people, two magicians especially, were far more capable of subduing this man than just him alone. Aoife considered herself an immensely talented magician, but I guess it was a long shot they'd find the criminal at this very moment. As she paced outside, hyper aware of the penetrating leers of the uncouth men outside the bar, a man of small stature burst out of the hall, knocking Aoife aside as he sprinted towards the east side of the city.

"Hey! Watch it, moron!" She shouted, her fist raised in the air as she yelled at the passerby. Just then, Setekh had ran out, curious as to where the man had gone. Her new friend was completely different, his eyes filled with passion and excitement. "He...went toward the east side, come on I'll chase after him too!" While Setekh had done most of the discovering, it was Aoife's turn to show how capable she was as a magician. She quickly sprinted off in the direction the scrawny man ran, her heels clacking against the cobblestone streets as she scanned her surroundings. After running for a while, she had hoped to find some sign of him, but all that was in the east side were a few shops and other buildings that had been operating as normal. As she stopped to look around, she felt as though there was something watching her. She firmly gripped her staff as she enhanced her guard, hoping to not get caught unawares by a stray sword, or arrow, or magical spell. A stray beam of light shot through the sky, connecting with Aoife as she summoned her borg to deflect the blast. It shattered her borg and she was brought to the ground, slightly disoriented from the blow. She stood up to fling a magic spell in the general direction, but when she stood up, she lost the man's position.

"Setekh, I can't see him anywhere...do you know where he is?" She asked, her position still at the ready for another attack. With no borg, she felt in trouble, but she could certainly make quick work of this cowardly thief.

xxxxxx "Let's go."

xxxxxx Setekh would wink at her before running off in the direction the culprit went. Despite being in heels, she managed to keep up with him. He would be a liar if he didn't say he was impressed. After a while of running, they ended up stopping. He tried to catch his breath, wiping the moisture from his forehead. There was a sudden feeling of eyes on him yet no one was looking in his direction. His hand reached behind him to grasp his staff as he scanned the surrounding area. There was rukh fluttering everywhere but his eyes caught onto a suspicious mass of orange rukh gathered in a nearby alleyway. Before he knew it, a beam of light struck Aoife resulting in her borg shattering. Without much thought, he stabbed his staff into the ground, blue rukh surrounding him. "Masukunda." The spell slipped past his lips as smooth as the ice that traveled out from the bottom of his staff. He let it run into the alleyway before letting it explode into a large snow flake. "He should be frozen in place. Are you alright?" After hearing her response, he would offer a hand to her to help her up.

xxxxxx "C'mon," he said, gesturing her to follow behind him. Setekh jogged over to the location where his spell still lingered. There was someone trapped within it's clutches, desperately trying to free his feet. Setekh would tap his staff on the ground again. "Tetrakarn." A large wall of ice appeared in front of the man making his only path of escape to be to go through them. "W-What do you two want with me?! Y-You want the books?! Take them!" The man was in a panic, clearly not wanting to actually engage in combat. He threw the books out towards them. "You can release me now!" he shouted, still trying to get away. Setekh let out a short chuckle. "Should I let him go? He did attack you, after all." His intention was to provoke her to toy with the man. He also didn't want to defend her when she was more than capable. The blue magician would keep his spells active, waiting for her response. If she didn't want to punish him, he would release his spells. If so, he wouldn't deactivate them until she was finished.

AOIFE REIS
Stunned by the impressive display of magic the blue magician exhibited, Aoife stopped in her tracks, nearly tripping on the cobblestone pathway as her heel clicked into the grooves in the ground. She regained her balance with the skillful thrust of her staff into the ground, nearly vaulting her in the air toward the tall, tan, and handsome man. Her face was overcome with slight embarrassment as she held on the hem of her dress to pull it down, fearing a bit more than just her legs would reveal itself to the world.

Oh! Oh that would have been awful…” She stammered, caressing her hair back behind her shoulders, “Nothing like going full frontal in front of a group of, erm, men…” The wit escaped her as soon as she started speaking, and felt embarrassed by her lack of an impressive one-liner to mitigate her endless string of faux-pas. As the tunnel of ice bottle-necked the thief’s means of escape, Setekh turned to ask her what she’d like to do with the thief. Well, if that ever was the nicest thing that happened to her that day--her opinion of her new companion shifted ever so slightly. She saw him as handsome, yes, but about as handsome as a womanizer can get. Yet, she soothed the butterflies welling up in her stomach before speaking, trying this time to at least retain her composure before losing it again.

Well, I suppose we’ll just have to let him go…” The lady magician explained, coyly walking over to the book thief. She gripped her wand just a touch tighter, however, and slammed her staff into the ground, her eyes filled with vindictiveness as she planned her next move. “Ramy Alfaika!” Two apples with a distinct purple tiny sprung up from the ground and landed on the thief, decomposing quickly to leave a liquid film on the man’s skin, melting it away in the process. The thief screamed in somewhat hilarious agony as Aoife quickly grabbed the books and ran back toward the blue magician.

Oh relax! It’s just minor--YOU are just being a wuss!” Aoife yelled, holding up an obscene gesture made with a particular finger before walking away from the alley back toward the central plaza. “You coming, Setekh? We can collect the reward together…
