Naima's Vault ZpDdR-NowztmpjNkgd-sGkz19-wa5N4V6FtmsMog5yo
Name: Naima Bellgade
Country Affiliation: Wanderer
Race: Human
Tier: D
Class: Ranger
Age + Birthdate: 20 | November 6
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Personality:
Namia is in general a happy-go-lucky young woman. Bubbly and upbeat, she is inclined to see the silver lining of every situation. She has tendencies to be overly friendly and does well at approaching others. She has a good sense of humor, and often takes other's malace and interprets them as jokes, and responds accordingly usually with a sarcastic humor of her own. Rarely does she visibly portray being offended or upset, and almost never shows contempt.  This being said, such habits are actually a defense mechanism. The auburn haired maiden attempts to cope with hardships by attempting convince others that she is well-adept at situations, in a "fake it until you make it" style mantra. Despite this well-intentioned attempt to stay positive, when alone, the facade quickly fades into pessimism and self-doubt, an inner-working of her personality that she rarely lets others see, and would only slowly be revealed to those closest to her.

This isn't to say that the young woman isn't easily pleased. Indeed, she is a rather simple person: the quickest way to her heart is with a warm meal, good company, a hot bath, and a comfy place to sleep. Being enthralled by such simplistic things, however, gives the young woman a sense of humility. She takes favors poorly, and feels the constant need to repay those who have shown her kindness. She will not let a debt go unpaid, and finds herself very loyal to those who she feels indebted to.

Naima grew up with four brothers. Due to such an upbringing, she tends to have tomboyish tendencies. Rarely does she have concerns about how she looks, or getting dirty. Less dainty than other females, she tends not to be concerned about putting herself into positions where she appears unfeminine. When focused, she can be fierce and determined, and can even be cutthroat when needed. Similarly, she doesn't think of herself in terms of gender constraints. She doesn't particularly view herself as a woman especially not in terms of success and what she can or cannot do. Somewhat stubborn, she will often push herself to her limits to prove that she is capable and equal to her male counterparts. She would almost never use being a woman as a reason to get special treatment.

Naima firmly believes that people who are "good" (in the very relative sense of the term) deserve good, regardless of how they are perceived by the rest of society. She would be the kind of person to participate in vigilante justice, and believes that the end result more than justifies the means.

In general, Naima a type of person that is very street wise. While it is not in her character to be dishonest or shady, it doesn't mean that she doesn't know how survive. A social being, and no stranger to hard work, Naima always seems to find a way to pay her way through life. She makes connections, and is always more than willing to make a deal with someone to guarantee her survival.

As much as she understands in terms of survival, when it comes to traditional education, Naima is severely lacking. While she is a fast study in terms of social interactions and behavior, the young woman lacks the most basic in school skills. She is unable to read or write, and mathematical computations much beyond what she can manage on her fingers and toes, prove nearly impossible. This is partly why she prefers to barter for things in terms of services, rather than money, as she is never truly certain if she is overpaying for something. Naima is in fact very self-conscious of this aspect, and tries to keep it hidden as much as she can. She has attempted to teach herself many times how to read and write, but has never wrapped her head around it. Too embarrassed to ask someone to teach her, she is at an impass.

Likes:

  • Children:
For whatever reason, Naima has always had a soft spot for children. She will always attempt to make sure the children around her (if any) are taken care of before she takes care of herself.
  • "Good" Food:
One of Naima's favorite things in the world is food. She tends to say the only food that she enjoys is "good food" but truthfully, her standards aren't very high. So long as the food is prepared well, and hot, she will enjoy it.
  • Hot Baths:
This is one of the luxuries that Naima longs for. While typically not hyper-femminine, and though she doesn't care if she gets herself dirty, she loves the feeling of scrubbing herself clean. Her favorite baths are the ones that she can stay in the water soaking, long after the heat has disappeared.

Dislikes:

  • The Feeling of Inadequacy:
While no one likes to feel like they are incapable of something, Naima particularly despises feeling like she cannot handle a situation in which she is placed, or that she is significantly worse at a task than those around her. She hides these feelings fairly well, masking them with feigned positivity and laughter. However, when she is alone, she will be hyper-analyzing every aspect of her plentiful list of imperfections.
  • Stereotypes:
Naima hates being judged by appearances and not actions. Be it a positive stereotype or a negative one, she hates being judged by how she looks, or how others judge each other. She hates most when she finds the judgmental crawl start in her own stomach... Which she intentionally tries to ignore.
  • Sunburns:
A bit trivial, but Naima can't stand the stinging pain of sunburns. She tries to save her traveling for night, despite it being slightly more dangerous, and avoids direct sunlight as much as possible, preferring the shade of trees and forest cover to wide open plains.

Aspirations:
Running an Orphanage:
Naima's love of children and good hearted nature urges her to want to one day run an orphanage. Her dream is to one day make enough money to be able to take in children who would else be on the streets. However, having no home to call her own, and having no financial or academic history proves to be a challenge for achieving this dream. The young woman currently knows that she has a long way to go, and she recognizes that the first step to this goal is likely learning how to read and write (she would never consider herself successful if she could not pass on some academic skills to her wards), the second would be to settle down more.

Phobias/fears:
Drowning:
Naima's biggest fear is that of drowning, a phobia that has plagued her since childhood as she watched a stray puppy she was tending to get washed away in a river. Any water that is too deep for her to stand in causes her stomach to churn. Despite some (albeit weak) swimming skills (she can doggy-paddle) she tends to avoid contact with water that is deeper than her thigh at all costs necessary. While she is capable of boarding boats, her company or skills on such vessels are completely worthless, as her mind is consumed and her body crippled by the fear of being on the open sea. If she were to have to board a boat, for whatever reason (and that reason would have to be extremely important) she would likely avoid the boat's sides, and stay as close to the ships center as possible.

Face-Claim: Yume | Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash
Hair Color: Red
Eye Color:Red
Height: 165 cm (5'5")
Weight: 56 kg (123 lbs)
Appearance: Perhaps the most noticeable features that Naima possesses are her long red hair, and eyes. These features are indeed strikingly similar to that of the Fanalis people. Despite having no known relations to this race, the similarities have a tendency to get the young woman profiled as Fanalis, often drawing unappreciated attention, particularly because she has none of the racial abilities that would help her stray away from precarious situations.

Despite a lack of superhuman strength, the human Naima does have a solid built body: well toned muscles in her arms, abdomen and legs, through her years of physical labor and ranging. Her clothes hug the curves of her frame, but are worn mostly for their practicality. She wears clothing that is well fitted to her body, so the cloth is less likely to catch while she is out and about. While it is rare to find the young woman in anything other than her typical attire of tanktop, shorts and boots, in the wintertime she deviates some, switching from shorts to pants, and layering with a fitted jacket. This being said, it is not unusual for the young woman to wear a hooded cloak when she is in an area that she is not already well known, to hide her auburn braid.

On her left arm, she wears a bracer to protect her forearm from the sting of her bowstring, which she constantly keeps on her person, usually slung across her back. She keeps her hands covered with gloves, though her fingers remain free, so they may pluck a bowstring, or handle a hunting knife with ease.

The final accessory that Naima wears is a pleasant smile usually plastered across her lips. Bright and cheery, her mouth is inwardly set, tilted up to a permanant smile. In fact, even in times of seriousness, this natural curve of her lips suggests a cockiness that isn't there.

Rukh Alignment: White Rukh
Special Features: n/a
History:
Growing up with auburn hair and ruby eyes, was anything but easy. Even from an early age, young Naima Bellgade's striking features drew the attention of many unwanted gazes, and cast with it the several probing questions of how her poor family (who bore little resemblance to the poor child) could afford a Fanalis slave. The child's parents, and her three brothers who each wore brunette locks and violet eyes profoundly denied the young child's affiliation to the natives of the continent of darkness, and as the girl matured into a child, the whispers subsided in the poor town in which she and her family resided.

The small community's coming acceptance of the child's appearance did little to help the girl's quality of childhood. Her family was poor, too underprivileged to send any of their children to get an education, though despite their overall lacking in funds, it did not mean that young Naima was unhappy. The young girl idolized her brothers, following them as they scrapped around, doing odd jobs to earn money for their family, hunting the occasional fowl or swine, to provide the family table with some nourishment. Indeed, the girl, in her ignorance, was happy, even as the times grew darker.

It was as the young girl grew into adolescence that she first noticed the clouds that hovered over her parents, that she saw the deterioration of both of their minds: beings lost to the pitfalls of poverty, stuck in an endless cycle of abuse and neglect, of each other and their children. While her older brothers tried desperately to shield their younger sister from the pitiful display of her once, strong, proud parents, it wasn't long until her two eldest brothers too fell victim of this vicious cycle, and while Naima slowly became aware of the situation that she was already completely engulfed by, she tried her best to remain positive.

The spring of her fourteenth year, was perhaps the worst of the young woman's life. Something felt off the day that the slave masters came to her town. She was no stranger to people such as these, and while they had never posed any real danger to her life or livelihood, she had kown the stinging pain of their probing gaze for as long as she could remember. Her family had always kept her safe, and she whispered a mantra to herself again as they passed, justifying that it would be no different than any years past.

Except, she was wrong. The jolt of being stirred by her youngest brother in the middle of the night is still a ghost sensation that lingers over the young woman's skin, even in maturity, whenever she wakes from a nightmare. His hushed voice, urged her to run, as fast and far as she could. He provided her with a rushed explanation, that her life had been sold by the very people she held dearest. The rough embrace, as her elder pressed her into his chest the last time, has all been carved into her mind, etched by the cool wind that pressed into her face, as she forced her feet to carry her farther than she thought they could: The sound of his rasping voice carried over the shouts of her parents and eldest brothers and the sound of flesh contacting flesh.

She ran until her feet had become so cut, that the blood, mixed with dirt caked their soles. She had nothing... and she had decided long before she stopped running, that the potential of ever returning home was nonexistent.

Instead, the young girl wandered. She took up odd jobs, here and there, but never stayed in one place long enough to hold residency. She forced herself to smile, painted on a cheery demeanor, knowing that she could attract more flies with honey than with vinegar. Eventually, such mantras became such a part of her being, that she could barely feel the numbness that had once shattered her soul. Instead, she moved on forward, hoping that one day she can help others in a way that would restore the kindness and trust that had once enveloped her entire person.

Role-Play Sample:
Supple leather boots flexed against the dusty floor of the inn. After a run in with a slaver when she was seventeen, the girl had slept fully clothed since, the last night was no exception. Gauging by the gentle ray of sunshine that peeked through the open window, last night had not been an instance in which remaining dressed was needed.

Still half asleep, the young red haired maiden sniffed the air that filled the small room that she had rented for the night. She was unsure what the scent was: other than the overwhelming sensation of salt. Where was she even? She knew that it was morning, based on the angle of the sun, but for the life of her, she couldn't remember where she was or the purpose of her being there. Without thinking, she grabbed her bow and quiver, and hoisted them onto her back.

The more she stirred the faster her senses returned to her, as she crept towards the door. There was a lock that she had latched, but the door was flimsy enough that it could easily have been caved in, with little force. She pressed her ear to the rough wood, feeling the vibrations of the outside world reclaim her being. Voices could be heard far off, but none directly outside her residency. Pressing the latch up, she leaned into the door, allowing her body to glide outwards into the world with it.

She hadn't expected to come into contact with a body, as she allowed the momentum of the door to fling her into the world. The man's torso was firm... The fact that she was close enough to feel--know-- this, was startling enough. The young woman shifted back into her room, bowing deeply. "My apologies sir--" she began, her gaze studying the floor. It wasn't until her ears were met with bellowing laughter that her eyes dared trace their way back to the form she had previously collided with.

She could feel the burning heat make its way to her cheeks as she looked up at the jolly man in front of her, and she felt a twinge of pain as she questioned what the man could be laughing at, though she pressed it out of her mind, and met the man's laughter with a chuckle of her own, allowing a pleasant smile to enrapture her features. Laughter was contagious after all.

Weapons

Naima's Vault Hu2FnAK
Name: Sapience
Tier: D
Type: Recurve Bow
Material: Yew Wood (Body) | Hemp (Bowstring)
Appearance: The base of the bow is made of yew wood. A fairly large bow, it is a total of 172 cm (67 in) from string knock to string knock: appropriately sized for its user's current draw.

The wood itself is worn, as it is many years old. Various nicks and gouges are found along its body, despite how well its current owner takes care of it. They are most noticeable along the knocking point of the bow, though the blemishes do not impact the function of weapon.

The grip is made with leather hide, which has been patched and restitched several times, and  the bowstring is made out of hemp rope that has been reverse twisted to add durability. When not in use, the string is removed as to eliminate extra tension.

Ammunition Material: Bamboo (shaft) | Obsidian, Horn, or Metal (tips)
Ammunition Appearance: The arrows are 69 cm (27 in) excluding the tips, which are fastened to the shafts of the arrows. Depending on the purpose of the arrow sent flying, the tips are made from various materials. Naima's favorite tends to be sharpened obsidian, though she also is in possession of a few horn and metal crafted arrowheads. All of the arrow heads are well kept, sharpened and nearly immediately repaired when necessary.

The arrows are kept in a red cloth quiver, that remains draped over the user's shoulder, maintaining its shape with straps and buckles.
