Job Name: Taking Out the Infiltrators Pt IV/V
Job Rank: C
Job Location: Reim
Job Rewards: 100 XP/7,000 Huang
Job Prerequisites: N/A
Job Overview: Liber has been informed that Kaika, one of the Kou soldiers from the night of the invasion, has been staying at an run-down inn in the slums of Remano. Kaika was seen on occasions since then using thorny vines to capture children and taking delight in watching them squirm and hurt themselves further until help arrived.

Enemy Name: Kaika
Rank: C
Needed damage to take down: B
Description: Kaika moves at 6 m/s and has a small magical rod infused with life magic. She also carries a rapier capable of dealing C-tier damage.

Thorny Growth – Kaika uses her magical tool to grow vines at the feet of her opponent, tangling their legs and immobilizing them for one post. The vines grow at 15m/s up to 5 meters long within 15 meters of herself.

Jagged Teeth – Kaika uses her magical tool to grow two plants that are 2 meters tall at 15 m/s. These plant creatures have ‘mouths’ that chomp and deal C-tier damage.

Thorned Hatred – Kaika uses her magical tool to grow two sets of vines around her opponent’s feet that twine up the opponents body at 15m/s and deal C-tier damage each.

The day following Awadatsu's demise, Liber had several errands to run. The first was to obtain a new set of needles. He'd left one at the scene of the Kou soldier's murder and had need of distancing himself from owning the same type of needles. Thankfully, the ones he had been using were senbon and specifically suited to the work of assassination. The fanalis made his way to the marketplace and purchased some rare bone before taking it to a local smith to be fashioned into needles that appeared more suitable for acupuncture work. These bone needles were of different sizes and thickness than his old set but they would take a day to prepare.

In the meantime, Liber traveled to the fountain where his employer's dead drop was located. The reward for Awadatsu's death was already in place along with another contract. It seemed as though the general was eager to move forward with the execution of yet another violent Kou soldier. This time, the target was supposed to be far more cruel than previous marks. Her crimes included the torture of random civilian's much like the others only her method of madness included wrapping them in thorny vines. After half a dozen contracts, Liber was content to take his employer's sources at their word. Instead of confirming the legitimacy of the new target's cruelty as he had in the past, Liber instead took on a disguise and made his way to the hollowed out stump where payment and work would be promised to Bahir.

Liber approached the stump with his hair and face covered, his body obscured by a large cloak. Opening the hollowed out stump, Liber placed a bag of gold inside along with a carefully written note that did not reflect his usual writing style. The note held the same details as the contract he'd received, but the false penmanship would help distance it from himself and his employers. With the reward and next contract in place, Liber closed the hollow stump and departed down an alley way where he would disappear into Remano's maze-like sewers.

-The Next Day-

Liber collected his new needles bright and early in the morning just as the smithy opened. The shop master grumbled about how difficult it was to work such fine pieces with the bone Liber had provided, but his complaints smothered in the face of the healthy sum Liber provided as compensation. With his new needles in tow, Liber would make his way, to the street with the hollowed out stump and took up position in a shop across the street where he could enjoy a small meal and keep an eye on the stump through a window. Would Bahir arrive to take on a new contract? If he did, he would find the following statement at the bottom of the note:

Depending on your performance, more work and pay might follow. Have an honorable hunt.

This was the day. It was time to make one of the biggest decisions of his life. Bahir sat on top of one of the buildings of Remano, staring at his dagger. The young fanalis sighed as he ran his finger along the designs and inscriptions of the dagger. A good portion of his life was dedicated to learning how to move in silence and steal life from the others within good reason. Of course, most assassins have their own criteria when it comes to taking on marks, but Bahir's memory leads him to believe that he and his father were pretty open when it came to discerning their targets. However, none of the targets they took were people from Balbadd. That seemed to be the only exception. Bahir knew information about the infrastructures of both Reim and Heliohapt. He didn't kill many people of those origins, but he did assist with information gathering of those areas. Either way, this day was Bahir's descent back down that path. The path of an assassin.

The fanalis stood from the building and leaped from the edge of the building. He landed on the balls of his feet and bent his knees enough to absorb the impact of his landing and to keep from allowing any harm to come to his joints. Resuming his natural posture, Bahir made his way towards the site where he was supposed to pick up his pay and next assignment. As he passed the more crowded areas of the city, Bahir pulled his hood over his head and brought the cloth around his neck up to cover the lower half of his face. He allowed his cloak to hang freely, covering his arms, only leaving a thin gap in the front of his body where the edges met, approximately three inches in wide.

Bahir approached the tree stump that the building tile indicated and looked around him. There were a few restaurants nearby, but it didn't seem to be so busy today. He sat next to the stump and leaned back a bit, letting down his hood. He let on the facade of being just a lazy man, resting in the sun for a few minutes. He was surprised at how little the area was crowded. Barely a handful of people came out of the restaurant and even fewer were seen going in. Confident that he wouldn't have any onlookers, Bahir reached into the stump quickly and pulled out the reward from dealing with Awadatsu. Hm. This guy is the real deal, I suppose. He thought to himself. Bahir returned to his laying position and read the letter informing him of the new assignment. He still looked just like a random man out enjoying the simplicity of the day. After internalizing the information on the paper, Bahir proceeded to rip the letter until it was no longer legible.

With a yawn, Bahir slowly moved to his feet and headed towards the busier section of Remano. It was just about time to get started now. The fanalis grinned as he continued to think of the last line of the letter. "Have a honorable hunt."...

Liber was finishing up his meal when the cloaked figure moved near the hollowed stump. It was nearly impossible to identify the man as Bahir, but the general body size and height seemed to be right. Not to mention the fact that Liber had not revealed the nature of the hollowed out stump to anyone else. Liber would not directly look at Bahir from the window and instead looked down to the plate of food before himself. As Liber calmly took the last few bites of his serving he kept Bahir in the corner of his eye making a mental note to keep track of him. It was a tricky feat since the streets were not devoid of people. Bodies would regularly pass between Liber and Bahir breaking line of sight here and there.

Liber had to balance the panic of losing peripheral sight of his target with patience and knowing experience. Thankfully, this was not his first stake out or tail and said experience was plentiful in supply. Even once Bahir did finally get up and start moving Liber made no hasty movements and calmly finished a drink before placing payment upon the wooden table at which he had been sitting. The assassin stood and exited the establishment before turning down the street in the direction he'd last seen Bahir move. The cloaked assassin was distant by now but still visible and seemed to be heading towards a busier part of town where the streets were usually rather populated during the day.

It would be dangerous to try and keep a solid tail on Bahir on such a street. The larger number of people meant Liber would need to take to the roof tops or follow behind him much closer than was safe. He did not want the young fanalis assassin to know of his presence during this job. That thought made Liber smile to himself. "Job...huh?" The man with the exposed nipple thought to himself as he looked down and away from Bahir's gradually disappearing back. Maroon eyes fell upon the torn up fragments of the note just in time to watch them be carried away by a whimsical breeze. "I shouldn't get ahead of myself. I still don't know he if plans on accepting the contract."

Keeping this realization in mind, Liber turned around and began walking in the opposite direction that Bahir had gone. A few steps down the street and Liber disappeared down an alleyway where he would access the sewers. In a race to the slums where the target was said to be staying, Bahir had the clear advantage being above ground as opposed to being down in the twisting labyrinth of a sewer that ran beneath Remano. But Bahir had no reason to believe he was in a race. Last Liber saw, he'd been walking. So long as that did not change, Liber would be able to easily beat Bahir to the run down inn Kaika was last known to be staying. The fanalis man sprinted through the sewers using his extensive knowledge of their workings to guide his path avoiding dead ends and wrong turns like a master carpenter avoids knots in wood.

Assuming Liber arrived first as he expected, the red haired killer would emerge from sewers into a side street just a block away from the inn. Using a nearby discarded sheet, Liber wrapped himself up before taking a sitting position across the street from the inn. There, he would pretend to be a beggar accepting charity from passing citizens.

As Bahir made his way to the inn that he was informed of, he felt a weird sensation. Could it be that he was anxious? The possibility of reverting back to his old days was exciting him, surprisingly. Though the act of killing didn't thrill him, the fact that he was doing a bit of "justice", at least in his mind, was satisfying. He didn't kill a mark without confirmation that it was deserved. This lady was said to be torturing innocent, young children of Remano out of her own pleasure. The very thought sickened the Fanalis, turning this into a more personal matter in his subconscious. One of the things that he was taught NOT to do when he was younger.

It took him a while, but he finally made his way to the inn. With the description of the woman still fresh in his mind, Bahir inconspicuously checked out all of the patrons in the lobby of the Inn. None of them matched the description, unfortunately. Putting his search aside temporarily, Bahir looked to the receptionist with a smile and asked for one room for the week. He had a feeling that he would need to avoid the place where he usually laid his head after this was done. Afterall, who enjoys an assassin living next door? After receiving his key and room number, Bahir went up to his room quietly, occasionally nodding at people who made eye contact with him.

Once in his room, the Fanalis assassin removed his white clothing and changed into his black and dark purple rags. He concluded that this woman needed to be taken down sooner, rather than later. He made his way back down to the lobby of the inn, not seeing much change in the faces of the people there. Disappointed once more, Bahir made his way to a booth and took a seat across from a welcoming stranger. He had a conversation with the man for a while, lying from the beginning. He never gave the man his real name and feigned interest in all that the other person had to say. After nearly an hour, Bahir catches a glimpse of his prey out of the corner of his eye. Show time. He thought as he brought his conversation with the other man to a close.

Bahir moved to his feet slowly and followed a good ways behind the woman out of the inn. Once he was outside of the inn, he went down an alley next to the inn, separating him from the woman momentarily. He then took to the roof top, the lowering sun letting him get an idea of when she took the children. Most children were known to play outside with their friends until around this time. They were tuckered out and heading back home, whether it was just a few feet or a few streets over. Hm... that... makes a lot of sense. It didn't take long for Bahir to notice the woman again with his Fanalis eyes. A race that is known for its strength and heightened senses would make the best hunters. That is just how Bahir treated this situation: He was a wolf, hunting this woman.

He followed her, always a building behind her, but never allowing her out of his line of sight. Sometimes this meant jumping to the building across the street or even reverting back to travelling by road. Eventually he noticed that the woman stopped moving. However, he couldn't see why. He moved a bit closer to her, keeping his presence from being known by keeping his body as low to the roof of the building he was on as he could. Then he noticed why the woman stopped. She was speaking with some child. The young boy seemed to not mind speaking with the woman at first. Then the woman was holding a rod that was pointed somewhat at the child. The boy looked confused before two sets of vines sprouted from the ground at 15m/s and coiled around his body. Bahir heard the woman whisper something weird as this happened that sounded like "Throned Hatred".

Hearing the boy's wail made Bahir spring into action. After lifting his hood and his scarf enough to cover his face, he leapt down from his spot on the roof and landed silently behind the woman thanks to his Feather foot skill. He landed with his left leg and used it as a pivot, bringing his right leg around in a roundhouse kick, colliding with Kaika's ribs. The force from Bahir Fanalis strength shook the woman's body and caused her to body to rock and sent her flying a few meters away from the boy. Bahir kneeled in front of the boy with his head down, looking at the thorns. He made sure that the boy had no chance of seeing his face. Bahir started to rip the vines away from the boy's body and once he was free, the boy started running. Before Bahir could rise to his feet, however, more vines appeared and wrapped around his legs, the thorns cutting up his legs. The fanalis let out a grunt as he turned to look at where he kicked the woman. She was already back to her feet, with her magical rod in hand. Bahir struggled against the vines' hold on him as the woman neared him, pulling out her rapier with her free hand.

The fanalis felt like it was time to abandon the chance of him pulling himself free from the woman's vines and put his hand on his dagger as she neared him. When she thrusted her sword at him, Bahir used the side of his dagger to parry the woman's strike. Kaika, not expecting such quick reactions from him, was thrown a little off guard. Bahir used this second to cut the vines that were holding him and before he knew it, the woman's rapier was heading towards his chest again! The fanalis pivoted on his right foot and turned his body to the side. As her blade passed right in front of him, he brought his left knee back up to crash into her stomach, causing her to hunch over. Bahir then used his left elbow to crash down into the back of her neck. The woman instantly hit the ground unresponsive. Bahir took a second before plunging his knife into her, finishing her. The assassin sighed and walked into an alleyway, hoping no one saw him. The street was bare before, but if he did happen to be seen, he would escape sight in the alleyway. Before he even could go a few feet into the alley, the jumped and made his way to the roof, heading towards the inn to stay for the rest of the week, or at least until things cooled down from whoever may have found her the next morning.
