The cool night breeze in Reim was far more comfortable than in Heliohapt. The desert country’s climate was rather harsh with blistering heat during the day and bone-chilling cold by nightfall. Walking leisurely along one of Remano’s busier streets, Ayero and Kabu keep an eye out for work knowing that bandits and thieves often prowled the darkened streets. Snacking on an apple, the Fanalis woman’s expression was glazed over with boredom.
”I-I swear! It was this massive thing, with a giant tail like a worm—“
The shout of a middle aged man drew her attention and a spark light up in her eye at the prospect of something exciting happening. Something exciting that she could potentially made money on. Taking a bite out of the apple she chews thoughtfully while making her way toward the group of men that had gathered around a distressed looking man.
”I couldn’t help but overhear. Is there a problem?”
She enters the conversation swiftly, casting a curious gaze over the small crowd. “Nothing but a drunk old man telling tall tales of a “monster” he saw!” One of the men barks with laughter, his reaction luring a scowl of indignation and angry words from the other man.
”I’m not a drunk, and I’m telling the truth!” His fists ball in rage before turning to Ayero with a softer expression, pleased that someone was giving him a chance to be taken seriously. ”I’ve seen all types of strange beasts down in these sewers, but this was a monster! It...looked like nothing I ever saw. Lashed out at me with it’s tail, it did, barely got my hide away from there before it took me down for good!” He steps closer to the red head with a pleading look in his eyes. ”Please miss, you seem like a strong type. We can’t have a creature like this in our sewers, it could destroy everything down there!” His words pull a laugh from the other man.
“Don’t waste your time, lady! This old geezer is known for his crazy stories. Looks like those sewer fumes finally got to ‘em!” Laughing again at his own taunt, the group of men begin to depart.
A hard look of anger appears in the remaining man’s eyes. Closing them for a few moments to steady himself, he reopens them to look up at Ayero. ”Please believe me miss, I know what I saw. This thing is real. If you could at least go down into the sewers and check the place out…” Casting a skeptical look toward the man, Ayero rubs at the back of her head and appears hesitant to answer. ”I can pay you! 5,000 if you just go down and check, and another 10,000 if you take down whatever’s causing a ruckus down there.”
”You have that sort of money?” The skepticism remains about the young woman and the sewer worker takes off his hat and bows his head slightly.
”Erm…well no, not that much on me miss. But if I can prove that this thing is really down there and you take care of it, the committee in charge of infrastructure will have to pay you! Honest!”
Staring into the man’s earnest gaze, Ayero sighs and slumps her shoulders slightly. ”I suppose I could take a look. But I want that 5,000 Huang up front.” Nodding eagerly, the man fishes into his pockets and hands over the coin to the woman.
