The Hashashin

The Hashashin Vault QjXjvO6

Affiliation: Parthevia / Global

Type: Military / Political

Status: Invite Only

Requirements:

  • Entry: A candidate must be mentored by a Hashashin and then participate in the initiation ritual, ingesting cannabis and belladonna in front of their Hashashin mentor. They must be commended to a Hashashin branch afterwards and receive an induction under the head-mentor.

  • Progression: In order to become a mentor, one must infiltrate a high-risk zone and assassinate or incapacitate the target chosen by the relevant head-mentor. In order to become a head-mentor, one must participate in the Amakh elections.

  • Departure: A member of the Hashashin may not leave once initiated due to their vows of secrecy. If a member leaves, they will be hunted down and a bounty job posted on every board. This will also happen if the Hashashin found out that a member has broken their vows.

  • Activity: A member must be active in one AC every two months, and must post something related to the Hashashin for one AC every two months, otherwise they will be demoted.

Description: The Hashashin were founded as a militaristic branch of proto-Parthevian nationalists. Their members came from every part of society, from farmers to royal scribes, recruited and trained by the so-called Old Man of the Mountain. They engaged in guerilla warfare against the Lucanian north and fought against the subsequent Reiman expansion into Amakh and Lamet. As this conflict grew, the Hashashin would establish a network of hidden strongholds where they coordinated their offence against both Reiman and Heliohaptian incursions.

After northern Parthevia came under Reiman control, however, the Hashashin were forced underground. They held secret meetings within their strongholds and hand-selected members through discreet initiation rituals. Once initiated, a Hashashin was assigned a target to study and eventually assassinate. An operative would then infiltrate the court or inner circle of the intended victim, sometimes serving for years as an advisor or servant. The preferred method of assassination was poison, often more slow-acting ones to avoid detection. An operative might even have their own speciality poison, almost like a calling card, grown from scratch within the Hashashin gardens.

Branches: An organisation spread across the Parthevian peninsula, the Hashashin are centred around regional branches:

  • Amakh:
This branch oversees the eastern region between Reim and the Kavir desert. Amakh was also the name of the Parthevian stronghold where the Hashashin grandmaster was based. Tisifun has now become the head-quarters for the Amakh branch, however, ever since Zubaidah became their head-mentor. They specialise in information-gathering, using rumours and misinformation to influence Reim.

  • Blighted Star:
This branch is the newest one, formed by head-mentor Casrare as a splinter-faction with Sassanid influence. They operate further abroad than all other branches, from Reim to Heliohapt and onwards, using their religious beliefs to convert people to the cause. They are well-known as a religious organisation in their own right, but they specialise in using said beliefs to instil absolute loyalty into their members.

  • Lamet:
This branch operates within the western Parthevia peninsula under their head-mentor Darius. Due to the inhospitable environment, they have no head-quarters but travel with nomadic Parthevian tribes. They are renowned for their guerilla tactics and often ambush Reiman and Heliohaptian convoys. They have always advocated the use of assassinations in controlling relations with Parthevia’s neighbours.

  • Saffat:
This branch works around the southern coasts nearest to Heliohapt, and Saffat has been captured by Heliohaptian forces several times as a result. The unrest around the Parthevian peninsula has prevented them from establishing another head-quarters, so their head-mentor Salleh has teamed with the Parthevian Toads instead. They prefer helping out the communities in need rather than the more traditional Hashashin activities, growing cannabis farms around the coast for medicinal use.

  • Isadora:
This branch oversees the region southwards of the Kavir desert, otherwise known as Parthevia’s cultural hot-spot. Parsif and Khabis were once the Parthevian capitals and the head-mentor Gawhur has maintained them as her Hashashin head-quarters. They have withdrawn from affairs external to the southern region, however, because Gawhur views the rest of Parthevia as tainted by Reiman and Heliohaptian influence. As a result, they have maintained a strict no-interference policy.
