job:
The cave dwelling snake, that was known by the moniker of Babi Maru, had just finished a hunt and was currently returning to his so-called lair or home. This supposed hunt of his was more of a follow up to a previous hunt that had taken a drastic turn for the worse. He had mistakenly attacked a small band of local hunters which had put him in danger of being hunted in turn. He had managed to track down and devour three of the five, which meant that a couple of them had managed to escape from his hunger.

The large snake like being needed time to rest in order to collect his scattered thoughts so that he can plan out what he should do next to fix this situation. However, when the unique creature had made it back to his cave the following day of the hunt, he would see signs of visitors. The stench of horses and humans were heavy in the air. Aking with this was clear tracks if feet and hooves that were etched into the sand. To these bold huntsmen, Babi was no more than a mindless beast that would not be able to comprehend tracks or be cautious of a potential ambush. Unfortunately for them, he still had his wit about him and was more than capable of coming up with a solution to his unattended guests.

He would start by shrinking down to his smallest size making him as small as a normal snake. This would make him harder to spot especially in the dark and damp cave that he knew all too well. That and his dark body color made it easy to be spotted in the alabaster sand but hid him well in the dark crevices of caves or homes. He would slide into the cave and notice that there appeared to be only 2 in the cave, but that did not mean that there were not more hiding somewhere that he could not sense. He would have to be careful about how he would approach these would be ambushers.

He would taste the air but he did not really have his senses attuned enough for him to be capable of telling how many there truly was or even their exact positions. So for now he could only focus on using his sight and hearing. He would be able to see the two men but he was not certain if they were the two remaining of the group of 5 he had encountered or if they were men who had learned from the survivors or thirdly, if they were people who just happened to stumble across his cave on a whim. The first two were quite likely, yet the third was not since there was nothing in the cave that could be of interest to humans besides some bones of a lion. So it was one of the first two but there was little to know way for him to discover which it was.

He would see the two men and would target one that was currently taking a drink from a pool of water. He would slide into the water making little to no sound as he swam under the surface toward the leaning figure. The pool was deeper than it looked, perhaps a branch of the cave but he was able to grow in size till he was large enough to swallow a man whole. He would spring up out of the water wrapping his mouth around the upper half of the person’s body, sinking his large fangs into the soon to be corpse.

This would of course cause a great amount of commotion as he slowly consumes the whole torso of the man. The remaining huntsman would pull out their hunting knife before charging at the giant snake with a shallow cut. This would be countered by Babi’s spear fang that would retract into a gland before shooting out with a slight curve hitting the knife, preventing its advancement. The attacker would drop his knife, his legs trembling violently, causing him to fall backwards onto the ground. “Oh great Sun please protect your loyal hunter from this serpent of the nether world.” For the first time in his life he was smiling, not out of joy or sadness but from humor. He was laughing at this man’s prayers. His whole life living on the streets he had prayed to the so called gods that watched over the country of helio and that got him nowhere. Also he had seen his fair share of priests forsake or be forsaken by their lords. So it was no surprise that he had despised the gods of the desert.

“Your criessssss will fall onto blind earsssss.” This was the first time that he had spoken since he had been transformed. It was strange hearing his voice but mixed with something different something foreign. The man would freeze as he heard a voice come from this man faced snake. How was it that he could talk? Was this one of the unnatural beasts that hailed from the nation of monsters called Tartarus? But if that was the case he had never heard of any wandering past the strange magic that surrounded the nation.

However, he would not have time to answer all of these questions that were forming as the snake would shrink to 2m length before going to swallow the man whole along with his comrade. There it was again! That sweet heavenly taste that he has only experienced from the flesh of humans. He had devoured 6 humans now and each time the taste made him crave more. He did not seem to grow tired of this meal despite eating the same thing over and over again. His hunger so far seemed to only diminished, albeit a minute amount, from the sustenance provided by the forbidden fruit.

The sounds of hooves would alarm the street urchin who would race out of his cave. He was just able to spot a man on a horse fleeing from the cave. There was a 7th rider! He would begin to worry about the consequences that would come from this. The horse had too much of a gain for him to reasonably hunt down. He would have to do the only thing he can, track the rider and take care of the whole group that they have come from. Was this feast of nightmares ever going to end?
