Job Overview: Now all will not be that warm to the new religion so Gilles will use the wealth of the group to bribe some of the guards and convince them through her words as well to join them
The high Priestess was moving on to her next step into increasing the influence of the Flames Reach throughout Magnostadt. However, this step would end up being quite a bit different paced than from the first two steps. She noticed something that she did not like at all but it was something to be expected when an outside force tries to make a strong presence inside of another, larger force. It was clear to her that there were individuals and groups that were not happy with the appearance of the religious organization or the fact that an outsider now controls one of the groups of magno owned merchant guilds, the Dragon’s Horde Alliance.
She would need to get some of the forces that controlled magno on her side if she was to continue with her conversion of this country. She would attempt to sway a portion of the guard that served as the protection of the country of magicians that she currently resided in. If she was able to pull even a small part of them to her side then that would be perfect for her and her organization. The best way to alter the ideals and thoughts of people like guards was with money. Normally one would expect a religious zealot such as the High Priest to be against bribery but in fact Gilles was an exception to this. She, like her whole organization did not see it as bribery but as a charitable donation to those who sorely need it. So she was on her way now with Loew and some of the higher up members of the Flames Reach, to serve as her voice piece and protection.
There was a tavern that was popular to some of the captains of the guard, not many but just enough that would most likely prove useful to her. The small group of cultists would walk in and look around to find the captains. They were unable to see them till the innkeeper noticed the bizarre group and pointed to a door in the back of the tavern. One of the members accompanying Gilles would nod and toss the innkeeper a bag of coins, money was what influenced minds the easiest after all. Inside they would see 5 guard captains who were in the middle of some type of card game.
The captains would turn to look at the group and before any of them could speak one of the people with Gilles would talk first. “We are members from the religious organization that you may known of as The Sacred Order of the Flames Reach. In fact this radiant being standing before you is none other than the Pale Lady herself, The Illustrious High Priestess of the Great Flame, Gilles Maru!” The guard captains would stir at this but not much. Being the guardians of the country of magic it was their duty to stay informed so of course they knew about the growing church that was slowly spreading its influence in this nation. They were uncertain as to why someone like Gilles would have appeared here but they were not foolish enough to do anything without provocation, not from someone they haven’t heard anything all out villainous from yet. “How can us lowly magicians help the great high priestess?” one of the captains would reply in a mocking tone.
Loew would tense at this but gilles would just shake her head, grinning widely at the men and women in front of her. She would begin to speak but with great strain on her face, a sign of frailty to the guards, “I am sorry…about the way…that may have sounded.” She would have to stop every few words to recover her breath as pain racked her vocal chords causing her voice to shake and sound gravelly. “I have come here…not as a high priestess…but as a fellow person.” She would begin coughing violently as spurts of blood shoot out into her hand. One of her entourage would run out and return with a glass of fruit juice, apple this time. She would rink deeply before speaking once again. “I am here too… ask that you 5…and those loyal…to you…follow us…for a price of course.” At this there would be a wave her her and and 5 individual bags of gold would be placed on the table one for each captain.
If the sacred order had went to most of the guards they would have been insulted by being bribed but these were men whose goals were money and power and nothing else. These were ones who even had a slight grudge against the academy for not being able to gain the power of a teacher of the academy. These five were chosen by gilles not by a whim but by strict and precise observation and investigation. She had her hidden flames looking for suitable candidates, ones with a strong greed for power and fame over morals and justice. This may sound like the opposite for what a religious organization would want but in fact it was perfect for them. Only a few of the religious were 100 percent devout, such as gilles, the others while having faith in whatever lord they worshiped tended to do so for their own personal reasons. Power, greed, fear of some nightmarish realm in the afterlife. These were just a few motivators that made people flock towards the belief of a greater being who is omnipotent. These five would prove to be no exception to this rule.
The guards would look at each other before nodding “We will agree to serve you High Priestess. Our men under us were chosen specifically for their loyalty to us so you have their support as well, we each lead 20 for a total of 100.” Gilles would grin at this. She knew that it was not a lot but it would help to cause confusion amongst the other authorities if needed along with helping serve as protection and influence with the rest of the people that may come in contact with them. With this done gilles would order them all drinks before heading back to her mansion.
