It was a bright morning that which gods would remember if there are any, and bards would sing of if the future was bright. The beginning of a campaign alongside some of the greatest men that history will ever come to know. The Great intelligent and powerful General Scipio, and the Brave Gallant Jahangir. With all romanticism and literal funk put to the sides, Scipio whom was a great leader of a vast private-militia, was looking for an successor. Many men had tried to claim the title as Scipio's name was one that was known and fear among the military realm.
He had lead countless successful campaigns, and turned the tides of heavy battle with his strategic might, with his age his might as a fighter had faded some, and he was no longer suited for the battlefield. However his mind was still in tact and his ability to command would not fade. Located in a backdrop wooded area of Reim was his base a stronghold that was far from prying eyes. The man was not to be trifled with and he was known for giving a good beating to any unwanted visitors that came into his lands.
This wouldnt stop Jahangir, standing now at arrow point surrounded completely by Scipios men, the boy showed no fear, he simply smiled politely. Some would think the man was insane, yet Scipio's observance of Jahangir was a tad bit different.
"Young, either fearless or stupid a great actor or both." Scipio's keen eyes observed everything they could from Jahan's demeanor, the kingly way the boy walked, and the confidence he portrayed were appealing as qualities for a successor in Scipio's opinion. He would rather work with a young man brimming with confidence that he could beat some humility into than a coward. The real question Scipio had was "Does the boy have any talent?"
Jahangir was now standing across from Scipio, whom had taken a liking to the boys character, when Jahan asked for his assistance in his campaign to unify the lands, Scipio proposed a duel. A match that neither of them would fight physically, but rather mentally. Jahan looked upon the black and white marble floor which was large and grandoir, the floor was an arena and a chess board all the same. Scipio would often play Chess here using actual people rather than pieces to a set.
Jahangir was privileged with the first move, the boy had used his "knights" or light cavalry in order to pin he mans hard cavalry(rooks) down and force him to resort to normal foot soldiers (pawns). The battle however was dragged out as long as Scipio would manage his pawns were able to separate and attack many of the knights Jahan had. The battle seemed to be evenly played out with both sides exchanging peices, however in the end Jahan defeated Scipio by a inch.
Jahan and Scipio had returned to the mans office after the match, Scipio himself was writhing with excitement. It had been a long time since he had been challenged at all, and the potential he could see in Jahangir to be a great General was high, Scipio feared no army in the entirety of the world, and Jahangir's aims to unify the world were ones that he himself wouldnt mind getting behind.
However Scipio was a man of war, and claiming countries and starting battles were not a thing he needed much convincing to do.
"Alright Jahan. I will be your mentor, I shall grant you a Division, a mere fraction of my forces to do what so ever you are pleased with. However I expect that you will accomplish many great things with them and in time i will reward you more."
