For the last couple of days, Azix had been reading books provided from Garret. He had inquired about the details of Garret's ice mirror he had seen before and had been given enough books to prove a weekend full of studying. The general bulk of the engineering books were a dry read, but they were filled with useful information regarding lenses and their applications. His imagination went wild with the possibilities and the utility for upcoming missions. He had received a general overview of the political landscape, customs and rules of the operation. He had a good idea that stealth and subterfuge would be a large part of his missions but he didn't have a wide variety of tools yet.

Azix leaned back, taking a break from reading and let out a deep breath. These missions would be dangerous and could fall apart at a moment's notice if even a tiny part was compromised. He couldn't afford to fail. If his illusion failed, he wasn't physically strong enough to defend himself. He could camouflage himself, sure, but he was still pretty visible. He had to be in cover or in the dark and while he could create shadows, it was still risky. He needed something new, a trick to disorient so he could run away if there was danger. As he was thinking, he idly moved his hand, knocking a magnifying glass nearby off the table. It clattered to the floor but thankfully it didn't break. The sunlight was pouring into the room and reflected just right off the surface of the lens, that when Azix reached down, it sent a ray of light into his eye. Momentarily blinded, he blinked and a light bulb went off in his head.

He got up and grabbed his staff, gripping the oak tightly as he thought it out. If he could create a sphere of light, he reasoned it was possible to create a bright enough light to disorient. He whispered to the ruhk, the ruhk formed magoi to fulfill his commands. With magoi, he formed a blob of dull light over the table in front of him. He closed his eyes and waited for his eyes to recover and the black to form in his mind. With his thoughts he formed a mental image of a ball, slowly forming it more and more into a perfect sphere. He turned it over in his mind, making sure the surface was flawless. As he did this, he kept a continuous flow of magoi into the blob of light and formed it to his mental image.

When he was satisfied the quality of the sphere was perfect, he began stretching and expanding it before shrinking it again. While he did that, he focused on keeping the proportions of the sphere accurate, not letting the structure waver. He spent an hour doing this before taking a break. He had worked up an appetite and snacked on some fruits he found in the kitchen. Afterwards, he went back to work. He spent ten minutes going repeating the process of creating a perfect sphere and holding it to that shape no matter its size.

Now, that the form of the spell was good, he issued a few more commands to the ruhk, the sphere began to pulse, growing in intensity as the minutes passed. The light grew so intense he cut off the flow of magoi and had to wait a minute for his eyes to clear. The afterimage was the desired result of his experiment and he was pleased to see it had worked. He remembered a section of the book saying that colors were just varying wavelengths of light and that gave him an idea. He began the spell again, this time confident from practice and formed a perfect sphere of light on the first try. Changing the flow of magoi he tried changing the sphere's color to purple. With a whispered command, a stream of magoi poured into the sphere from his staff and the sphere took on a purple hue. Azix smiled and spent the next half an hour making the sphere go through the color spectrum until he was confident of his technique.

All that was left was moving the sphere. If he needed to get away, he could quickly turn and form the light behind him, blinding anyone who looked in the ball and then run without his vision sacrificed. He cut the spell off and went outside. The moon had come out a few hours ago it seemed. He created the sphere of light once again and practiced while walking, keeping the light near him and sending it in circles round and round, then near and far. When he was done, he laid in the grass and looked up at the stars. He was satisfied with his accomplishment. Now, if he could design a spell that would make it so he wasn't affected, that would be perfect.

He looked at the moon, and called the ruhk to form a stream of magoi over his eyes to form a lenses. Looking through them, his vision was blurry and it made him nauseous. He poured magoi into them and tinkered with bending and flexing the lens until he could see better. A thought struck him that he might be able to use the lenses like a telescope. He adjusted the lenses until he could see more detail in the moon. It didn't let him see far, but maybe up to twenty meters away. He noted that possibility and focused to the task at hand. While holding the lenses he formed the light sphere again and gave it a moderate intensity, not enough to blind, but enough to test his theory out. He commanded the ruhk to send magoi into the lens and filter out a portion of the light reaching his eyes. The lens appeared to get darker as less and less of the light reached his eyes through them. He spent the rest of the night practicing these skills until he felt comfortable with his technique. This weekend had been a long one, but it hated satiated his desire for knowledge and he learned some new tricks.
