Wherever she may be, Zub would be found by a messenger who would give her a letter and then leave without saying a word, in a rush for his next delivery. Zub would recognize this man as a servant for Caligulas Benjin, the Senator she had met and uncovered some secrets about.

Once the letter was open she would recognize the Senator's handwriting as it said the following,
"Dear Lady Zubadiah,

I have been invited to a party for some friends on the senate that I think you would be intrigued to meet. There will be people there connected to the profession that we talked about the other day. I would like to invite you as my plus one to talk to these friends if you would be interested. Also as this is a party for well known figures i would insist that you do not bring any of your usual party favors. If interested please meet me tonight at my residence and we will ride together.

Yours, Caligulus Benjin

It would be clear only to Zub what he meant in this letter. He was telling her that there would be senators connected to the slave trade that she had uncovered, the ones that convinced Benjin to put his hand into the messy situation. He was also warning her not to bring any weapons since it was unlikely that they would cause a scene and didnt want Zub to cause a scene herself. The rest of the details such as the time and address of his home were included on the backside.

It has begun then…’ A letter placed inside her dress, Zubaidah turned from quill and ink towards make-up brush. ‘Let me show those dullards what they deserve.

When she arrived, the Benjin estate would behold Zubaidah dolled with henna and indigo, her body a canvas painted with vibrant colours. If she were seen in her native Parthevia, she would have been commended for her attention towards the suns and crocus flowers twisting about her arms and torso, but she wanted more for her body to show a message towards Reim. As she watched Caligulas’ steward taken aback with surprise, she wondered what the poor Reiman senators would think themselves, and she smiled inwardly. Indeed, as he walked inside the Benjin estate, she smiled and held tight the pendant hidden within her dress’ folds and the sash laid about her shoulders.

I assume that the meeting will begin soon?’ She bowed her head as she met with Caligulas, putting on airs of modesty and humility towards him. ‘You know I cannot wait.

Benjin would greet her with a gesture of his own, "It is a pleasure to meet you once again Lady Zub. The Party is about to begin." He would offer up his arm to her as he would lead her to the carriage that he had waiting for them. Once inside the carriage would make its way to the expected party.

"Now i will say that most of the people here will be senators and their friends who have ties in the slave trade in Riem. But i would not be surprised to see people not part of it as well, to 'entice' them as they did me. They may be easy to anger but the senators would not dare do anything against us at a gathering such as this." He would take a moment to answer any of her questions. If she says nothing they would take the rest of their trip in silence before arriving at a magnificent mansion.
the mansion:

There would already be several other carriages with some well known senators exiting them, escorted by servants or their mistresses. there was also a steward that was welcoming each of the esteemed guests.

The pleasure is all mine.’ As she took his arm, a subtle smirk came upon Zubaidah’s face. ‘You have given me a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity after all.

She heard Caligulas and waited patiently, a nod showing that she had understood him. She would not continue further, however, since she realised that they both needed time to digest their situation. After all, they were riding into a den of wolves, and it was important that she did not seem like their next meal.

It was not long before they arrived at the Senate’s party-house, a stunning work of Reiman architecture. ‘I wonder if that is funded through public or private means…’ If she had no small hatred towards the Senate, Zubaidah might have been impressed with the country-home, larger than Flavrian’s estate twice or thrice over. ‘In either case…

Lead the way, sir.

Benjin would shake his head at her last comment "This residence is actually owned by the host of the party. Fulvia is her name. I do not believe she has connections to the slave trade but she has ties with several important senators." As they get out they would be led into the estate by the steward that met them at the carriage.

Ballroom:

Once through the doors they would find themselves in a large, grand ballroom where senators and women of well renown were dancing and mingling. She would most likely recognize quite a few familiar faces in the crowd. "I am going to play my role and mingle with some of the other senators, Do as you will but please try not to cause any trouble, I am not much of a fighter.

In an area that seems to be the center of the spotlight was a woman in a white and light blue dress with long white hair and a beautiful doll like skin. She seemed to be around the age of Zubadiah but carried herself as someone much older and seemed to hold honor and respect from the men of power around her. She had a small child by her side who she was trying to comfort and stop from crying.

As you please, sir.’ Her face was serene and beautiful now, a poker-face covering her emotions, and jokes towards Caligulas. ‘I wish you luck with them.

As she was left alone, Zubaidah looked towards where she thought was centre-stage, a crowd of senators thronged about one woman. If she knew anything, it was that the spot-light was reserved for the party’s host.

She must have been Fulvia.

As she walked towards her, champagne and long strides showing her confidence, Zubaidah joined the senatorial crowd. Fulvia was more stunning than Zubaidah had realised, but her beauty was elevated with an air of wisdom. As she heard Fulvia talk, she smiled inwardly and wondered whether she had met her match.

And then she found an opportunity to speak:

Good evening, lady Fulvia. My name is Zubaidah ibn Mansur, a guest new to these gatherings, brought here with the senator Caligulas Benjin.

She bowed her head and gave a low curtsy, unsure what the right action was, a strange feeling for the high-minded Zubaidah.

I cannot say that I am well-acquainted with the conventions at these gathering, but I am hoping that I might find some patrons for my dancing. It is a tricky business, show-business that is.

The lady of the party would see the newest guest approach her and she would have a welcoming smile on her face. She would return the courtesy before speaking, "Oh I am quite well aware about who you are my dear lady Zubadiah. Your fame proceeds you." She would say with charm and sincerity in her voice as she watched the woman with a watchful eye as if analyzing her every flaw as one in high society does.

She would let zub speak before letting out a small giggle, "Oh i am sure that i could find you some great patrons. I have connections and relations with most of the the senators and i even know people who would pay handsomely for a strong, attractive woman such as yourself." There would be a somewhat sinister tone in this last comment. She would take a handkerchief from her dress. She would start dapping her cheek and the area under her eye revealing a mark of a spider on her face, "You wont believe how much makeup it takes to conceal such a tattoo. " she would grin at the woman in front of her. "I would not worry though. I nor anyone here would harm you, at least in this place. If i wanted to hurt you i would have sent assassins when you first started looking into the cobwebs of the senate."

Pardon, madam, I sell my talents and not my body.’ She covered her bemusement with jokes and laughter, but Zubaidah went silent when Fulvia revealed the mark upon her cheek. ‘Oh…

She was blind-sided.

She knew that Caligulas had brought her into the Senate’s feeding-grounds. She had not known that the Senate and the Barris Circus were affiliated, nor Fulvia connected them both. She could not even muster the emotion to tear into Fulvia and the Senate, for Zubaidah required all the willpower she had in order to maintain her poker-face.

I had not expected such a welcome, nor a reveal as clear as this.’ She smiled no more, but she did not betray her emotion either, a blank and arrogant expression upon her face. ‘Tell me then, if you are bold enough to reveal your hand, what does the tattoo mean?

I am sure that you know such secrets cannot remain hidden for long.

She would just smile at zub before looking down at the child who was holding her hand staring up at zub with large doe eyes. "Sorry about the child. He was fussing till i agreed to take him to the party with me. He is thankfully to young to really understand what we are talking about. Lets continue." She would say as she looks back at the other woman.

"as for the answer to your question. This tattoo is a sign of my membership to the Black spiders. I am quite sure that an experienced woman such as yourself has heard of us. Our goal here is like it always is, to expand the reach of our slave trade." She would smile before gesturing to the wait staff around them. It was difficult to notice at first but upon close inspection one wold be able to see the scars of shackles on wrists and calloused hands from ears of grueling labour.

"As for why i am telling you this is simple. We want you to cease what you are doing and look elsewhere. There is plenty of evil in Riem that you can pursue with your fantastic investigative skills. We do not want to deal with you as we would much rather handle things without violence. However, if you continue down this path we will have to take such drastic measure i dont want to take. I am such good friends with Anna that i would hate to have to harm that beautiful skin of hers. Flavian is also a man we wouldnt want to extinguish but we will. We will hurt you in ways you cant image my dear zub, so dont make us." She would say this without a hint of malice or hatred in her voice, rather this is from years of acting or if she truly didnt want to hurt zub was up to zub to decide.

As she heard Fulvia make her threats, Zubaidah swallowed bile and insults back into her chest.

All I can say,’ But she knew the game, ‘Well played!’ She had played it many times before, even if she had been on the winning side. ‘I cannot say that anyone has cornered me into a worse check.

But it is not checkmate.

I will indeed leave your affairs aside for the time-being.’ She kept her poker-face maintained, even as anger tore apart her mind, ‘You are correct that I cannot risk my friends and associates in Reim while the Senate holds such power.

But the Senate will not be untouchable forever.’ She began smiling, thin and sinister, enjoying their masochistic game. ‘When that time comes, I will work out a more favourable position.

Call that a promise to one corner of the underworld…’ As she spoke in hushed tones, she raised a finger to her smiling lips. ‘From mine.

A tattoo ran down the finger, small but unmistakable to a member of the Spiders.

A sign of the Dark Hand.

The woman would grin at the girl who just outright declared that she would deal with the spiders at a later date. "I really wished you wouldnt say such things but if you must then i understand. Those who pretend to be righteous always look down on us who are making a living on others pains. Maybe think about all of the bodies you have walked over to get to where you are now before looking down on others. Anyways I must go, the child needs to go to bed now. Please enjoy yourself at the party, I am sure we will be seeing eachother again."

She would take her child's hand about to leave before leaning close to Zub speaking in a whisper, "I may carry myself well but i will say that I am just a merely captain. If you try to stand agaisnt us you will have to face one of the Legs surely." With this she would walk off leaving the ballroom into the depths of her mansion.
