The world as Ptolemy knew it was a dry place, marked by sand storms and heat more then anything else. In a way it was almost depressing at least for those not born to the desert nation of Heliohapt, and even those who were used to it... At times found it tiring. In fact many of these same individuals dreamed of rain and water aplenty. Of green lush gardens and streams. Ptolemy him self often day dreamed of lounging on the bank of a stream or babbling brook, his feet dangling carelessly into the rushing water. And he was not the only one with dreams of water. In fact it seemed that anyone native to Heliohapt often wished for storms to rage inward and drown them in their cooling tears. Sadly, they were never so lucky. And those few times that rain did manage to find its way to them, always left them wanting more... But maybe not anymore.

It seemed that the dreams of many were going to come to fruition thanks to the wonders of magic. It was honestly astounding what one could do with it, and at first Ptolemy had not believed the claims. But... In the end he had been proven wrong, as demonstration after demonstration and time after time he saw the wonders first hand. He could remember it clearly, as he watched water fall from the sky at the call of a magician, but whats more he had watched in astonishment as a child had done the same with a device that looked like nothing more then an abnormally colored stick. He was not ashamed to say that what had been done was beyond his comprehension at least at the time, but beyond him or not he was still able to work with the sticks and through his and others efforts he would help create an oasis for all to enjoy.

Of course... The question was, where to start? There were so many options, and oddly enough those passing out the magic tools had left it up to the user as to where they should deploy them. And so it came to pass that Ptolemy was given a bag full of the hopes and dreams of people... And no proper direction as to when to use them. While for the most part he would generally relish such freedom, in this case he found the pressure to be somewhat daunting, which given the circumstance and the power he suddenly found in his hands, made perfect sense. So yet again, he found him self walking the streets in the city, and the paths all around it trying with all his might to make up his mind. That, sadly, was easier said then done. For if he brought water to one place, another was surely to suffer from its lack.

But then it hit him, no matter where he placed these devices the lives of those both near and far would prosper for their use. Lives both great and small would flourish, and this arid desert landscape would slowly turn into a paradise. A paradise where all would be happy, and all would enjoy the fruits of their own labor. And so he set his eyes on a section of land just outside the wall, where children went to play while their parents went about their jobs and set to work. Placing one of the sticks on the ground, an obelisk started to grow, slowly at first then but a few seconds into the transformation it sprang to full height. Casting a cool narrow shadow over some of those gathered. Slowly clouds gathered overhead, and as he watched... Rain began to fall and fountains sprang into being as if created by the hands of the gods them selves. It was a marvelous and awe inspiring sight.

But as awe inspiring as that might have been, Ptolemy had no time to stand around and watch the miracle take place. In fact, just as the first raindrops touched him, he turned his back on the spire and made his way into the city, his second destination already in mind. His foot steps carried him up a river of people, each of whom was rushing to see the obelisk and the rain it created for them selves. This cleared the way for the second to be made, in the center of town. There the city square was along with various shops, and it was from here that the other streets converged, like spokes on a wheel. In the center of this area he placed the second tool, and from it grew yet another obelisk. Some watched as it grew, some marveled canals began to form... But Ptolemy was already on the move.

Quickly his feet took him away from the center of the city, yet again making for the outskirts. There the slums were located, and it was there that he had been born. The third and final obelisk found its home here, amid those most did not care for or about. A smile crept over the one armed mans face as he watched the third and final building come into being, knowing that he had brought some measure of relief into the loves of those unfortunate enough to live there. He knew it was but a small gesture of course, but it was heart felt... And in the end, isn't that what mattered the most?
