Investigation:

It had been a little over two months since Rima entered the country of Reim, and she had been scouring through just about everything it had to offer. She had also been practicing her magic along the way, she feels that she's improved quite a bit. However, there are still many things that she needs to learn and go over. She was also currently in the process of actually creating her very own magic. As this thought crossed her mind it made her feel a sense of accomplishment and joy.

After walking for a couple more miles she finally came across the foggy town of Caliginosus. It was completely surrounded by tall mountains and trees, giving it a very ominous and dark setting. As she began to close in on the town she noticed there wasn't even a guard in sight. This was incredibly strange, especially for a town located in the country of Reim. However, she was exhausted from her long journey, and it was still day even though the city was overshadowed by the mountains, so she walked over to a nice tall tree and slid down its base. 'I'm going to take a short nap before getting involved with anything.' she thought to herself before dozing off.

xxxxxx Wandering about in a dense forest, a sudden fog grew thicker as the pair traveled into unfamiliar territory. Diana questioned if this place was really in Riem as the map displayed. She walked closer to Pluto gripping his plush mane in her hand. After having heard word of strange murders happening in a town called Caliginosus she decided to investigate the issue. As the fog cleared, the destination gradually came into view. The misty mountains in the distance seemed to hover over the area, caressing it in a soft shadow. The atmosphere made Diana uneasy and she felt Pluto suddenly get more alert. She felt as if she was being followed.

xxxxxx As they finally arrived, she noticed a familiar face resting against a large tree trunk. When Diana went to go closer to her friend, Pluto cut her off and she gave him a confused look. The canine walked over to the girl to investigate if she was a threat or not. A soft smile graced her lips as she watched him sniff her. She put a hand on the colossal dog as if to tell him it was alright but he ignored her. "Come now... she's sleeping," Diana whispered, gently hitting Pluto on the leg. He huffed and snapped at his master in defiance. With that she whacked him on the head making him let out a low growl and back away.

Rima's eyes slowly began to open after being hit by a strong unknown force. Her eyes started to focus after she rubbed them for a couple of seconds, then realized she was face to face with an absolutely enormous beast breathing down on her. Her tan skin quickly turned to a ghost pale after this sight. Her bottom lip started to quiver, and tears began to well up in her eyes. "SO CUTE!" she yelled and proceeded to lunge at the large dog to hug it. However, the dog turned his back on her and she crashed face-first into the ground.

After being denied so harshly by the beast she made eye contact with the young woman standing next to him. It was Diana, whom she had met a few months back when she first entered this country. Her eyes then came to life and a grin began to spread across her face. "Diana?!" she said excitedly and started to walk towards her.

xxxxxx "Rima," greeted Diana with a soft look on her face. She shot a stinging glare at her companion for having woken her. Pluto responded with a huff before laying down next to her making the ground shudder. Turning her attention back to Rima she gently grabbed her hands. "How are you?" she asked, speaking in a gentle tone. "It's been a while." Diana let go of her friend and pushed her hair behind her ear. She rummaged through her bag and pulled out one of her books. Attempting to hand the open book to Rima with a wider smile, blushing faintly. "I've added to it," she said, "Tell me if you know anything." Her tone of voice became more serious despite the pride she was feeling. The book was opened to a page about the serial killer. It was filled with organized notes and various amateur illustrations. She was quite proud of herself for gathering so much information so far but she was determined to find more clues in this town.

"I'm doing pretty good, how about you?." she said with a faint smile. She then looked down at the book Diana was holding in front of her. A few minutes of silence passed, but Rima finally looked back up and glared into Diana's eyes. "I can't say I know that much about them, but supposedly they might have some info about the person I'm trying to find. I can't confirm that it's the same person...but a girl can hope right?. I got this information out of a bandit a couple towns back."

Rima then directed her eyes towards the village. My friend...I'm going to go ahead and just ask right away. Would you want to look for this serial killer with me?" she said gripping her staff tightly in anticipation. Memories of the last time they did a job together passed through her mind. The last thing she wanted to do was scare her off with her psychotic tendencies

xxxxxx Diana was quite pleased with her response. They were on the same page and it made her even more excited to get to work. "Yes," she replied. Pluto got up off the grass, stretching and yawning. "Maybe," she mumbled, "Maybe we will find the person you're looking for." It had been a while since they were last around each other. Yet Diana was still a bit uneasy about having her tag along because of the last incident. She didn't want Rima killing anyone for little reason again. Her head shook as she grabbed Pluto by the mane, leading him towards the entrance to the town.

xxxxxx "We should ask around," she stated. Thinking to herself, she thought it wouldn't be a bad idea to have Pluto tag along. He would be very good if she needed to intimidate someone. As they entered, Diana noticed that it was oddly lifeless. There were no signs of anyone living here. Just too quiet to be a town. They then ran into a few residents outside of their home. "Stay," she commanded the dog. Pluto obeyed and sat in place, waiting for further instruction. Diana smiled a bit as she approached the people. "Excuse me," she pardoned herself. The woman looked at her before shooing her children inside. Looking back at Diana she asked, "Why are you-- You're travelers. You shouldn't have come here."

xxxxxx Diana nodded, holding out the book to the woman. The man beside her opened his eyes wide as if he recognized something on the page. The woman's eyes welled up with tears as she began to sob into his chest. This made Diana feel a bit awkward yet skeptical about their reactions. "You-- Are you soldiers? Will you help us?" she cried frantically, looking back at Diana. "No but I'm here to help. Where are the guards here?" asked Diana. The man's face grew weak when he heard those words. "A lot of people left or went missing," he mumbled, voice cracking and eyes shifted. Diana truly felt for them but she held her head high.

xxxxxx "Please tell me what you know," she said sternly. The man motioned them to come in and she followed. They sat down around a rickety table and discussed what they knew about the mysterious disappearances. Diana decided not to break it to them that those who went missing may have been killed. She listened in closely, making detailed notes about everything they said. A short while passed but they revealed all the information they had. "Thank you," she said, putting the book back in her bag. "If I find anyone I'll bring them home," she added, leaving them with a promise. As she left the home a tear streamed down her cheek. After swiftly wiping it away she took a deep breath and motioned for Pluto to follow, holding onto his mane once more.

Rima sort of zoned out as Diana was talking to the villagers. Without saying anything she got up and walked over to the dresser near the front door. She gazed upon a beautiful porcelain mask that was on display. At first, it caused a chill to go down her spine, but for some strange reason it looked familiar to her. She glanced at Diana who was sitting on the couch talking to the villagers still and gave her a small hand gesture, notifying her that she was going to go outside.

As she left the building she was practically gasping for air. For some strange reason that house was suffocating her, she just needed a bit of fresh air she thought. After taking a short breather she wandered off and headed deeper into the city. It was still really empty, but a couple of people finally came out of hiding and were going about their natural order. Here and there she got a few strange looks, most likely because of her clothing but she was already used to that.

After wandering around for a good ten minutes she finally came to a job board, she looked at it and noticed a scrap of paper that was referring to the serial killer her and Diana were looking for. She grabbed the paper and noticed it said there was a reward even for people who has the slightest of information about them. A small smirk crossed her face as she started to walk back towards the house she left Diana in.

xxxxxx Diana wondered where Rima had gone. As they walked down the barren streets she noticed a few people came out of their homes. They didn't seem to stray far but they were in a hurry. She got some stares, mostly at Pluto who was frightening to them. Diana noticed that Rima was on her way back from somewhere. A piece of paper was in her hand. When they approached her, she decided to ask about it. "What did you find?" she pried, slightly holding her hand out expecting it to be handed over. Pluto's ears perked up when he heard a sudden faint noise.

xxxxxx He went to investigate it and was led not too far away to a dead end. There was a dead body, strung up on the side of a building. The alleyway was riddled with a thick smoke. Pluto wasn't sure what it was but it had no distinctive scent to it. The man seemed to have been bled like an animal. The canine sniffed around the corpse, lapping up a bit of the blood. It was fresh. Though there was a hint of toxicity to it that made him scrunch up his face. After investigating the scene he howled loudly, enough for Diana to hear. A howl echoed through the silence that made Diana shiver. It was Pluto. She knew he didn't alert her for no reason. Once she was done with Rima she would make her way to his location with haste.

"Oh hey Diana!" she said whilst walking towards her. She then placed the paper in Diana's hands as a sudden howl came from around the block. "I wonder what the doggie found. We should probably go check it out." she then turned around and began to skip towards where the howl came from. It didn't take very long to get to their destination. It was a large alleyway with a thick smoke lingering in it. She tilted her head a little in confusion as she tried to make out a shape in the smoke. It took only a few moments for her to realize it was a mutilated corpse just hanging there.

She turned to Diana with a frightened look on her face. "I think we found some evidence.."she said with fear in her voice. "I've seen this before..." she then remembered that when she lived with her brother there was a similar string of murders in their town. The grip on her staff tightened as she started to back away from the scene. "I'll go get authorities." she said as she proceeded to distance herself from the alleyway.

xxxxxx The thick smog seeped out the alleyway as Diana approached it. Pluto walked outside of it, his face bloodied. Diana knew it wasn't his blood as she peered down the alley. She quickly covered her mouth and nose to prevent herself from breathing in too much of the lingering smoke. Pluto opened his mouth and blew air out of his mouth to disperse it. Once it was safer, she walked into the dark narrow area only to find a dead body. "Fresh blood," she murmured. It had been a long time since she last seen an actual dead body. It made her slightly sick to her stomach. The stench penetrated her nose. A scent of metal and bodily fluids. This body hadn't been dead for long but enough to where it had already started to swell.

xxxxxx Diana noticed a small piece of cloth on the ground. It was black, tattered and void of blood. She returned to Pluto's side, making him get a good smell of the cloth. Once he got a good smell, he tensed up, excited for a hunt. This was the first time Pluto was to track a person, not an animal. Diana was nervous he would treat it as a kill and not a culprit. When Rima stated she would go find authorities she nodded. "We will search after you come back," she said, her tone cold and serious. This was a major issue and Diana was determined to solve the case.
