After taking the time to let her body heal from the last coliseum battle, Ayero began to feel an itch for battle. Taking out thieves and bandits was one thing, but she couldn’t compare it to the feeling she got while in the arena. Something about the hundreds and spectators and cheering crowds made her enjoy the already present thrill of a fight even more. Though she felt as if survival and thus victory relied on her being calm and calculated, she wasn’t able to deny her Fanalis nature in the face of a good fight.

Stepping into the open air of the arena, Ayero lets her eyes fall closed and inhales deeply as the crowd begins to roar. Opening her eyes and scanning the bleachers, she notices that the turnout was slightly better and the cheering a bit louder than from her first match. Feeling a little more confidence swell inside her, Ayero focuses on the other end of the arena where her next opponent appears. Soon, another figure appears from the opposite end. The first thing Ayero notices is his red hair, and as he drew closer, the large shield that he carried. The Fanalis woman raised a brow at the man’s choice of weapon. She couldn’t say that she’d ever fought against someone with such a large shield before, and she wondered if that was the only weapon he had brought to the fight. Unsheathing her blade, she holds it out to the side and fixes the deadly gaze of a huntress Fanalis onto her opponent. She had brought her blade to this fight this time but left Kabu back with Vin in order to watch the boy, not wanting him to witness her fighting in the case that she became gravely injured.

As the fight begins, Ayero wastes no time in charging her opponent with her Fanalis speed. She was aware that his movements would be quick as well, and kept her eyes on his shield for any movement. When she was in close range of the man, the Fanalis woman leaped and drew back her blade, aiming to strike the man behind the shield. To no surprise, Vorgoth intercepted her weapon with his own, successfully blocking Ayero’s strike.[1] As soon as Ayero’s attack loses momentum, Vorgoth pulls his shield back slightly before ramming it forward in a Shield Bash[2]. The force of the attack leaves Ayero momentarily winded as she is sent back several meters, already able to feel bruises form along the trunk of her body.

Taking advantage of his opponents displacement, the Fanalis man rushes forward with his shield placed to the front, charging at Ayero using Grand Line. Luckily, the woman had enough time to recover and leapt to her feet, intercepting the shield with a raised, armored arm in a Simple Block I.[3]As she feels the pressure from the clash of the two weapons lessen, she sweeps the other hand holding her sword below and to the side in a slicing motion, attempting to try and make contact with the man behind the shield. A miscalculation on her part, and instead of flesh her blade meets a wall of steel.[4]

Gritting her teeth, Ayero pushes back on her blade, using the force to push her own body back several meters. The Fanalis woman plants her feet firmly on the ground and pushes off as soon as she stops moving, blade lowered at her side. Vorgoth prepares himself for the impact as well, positioning his shield in front of him and charging at the woman. Eyes narrowing in concentration, Ayero focuses her next attack on the shield itself rather than the man using it, hoping that using more forceful attack might allow her to weaken, or even break it. Her Blade Redirection makes contact with Vorgoth’s Shield Bash[5], the clash of the two weapons negating any damage that either one would have done to the other. Aware of the possibility of being intercepted, Ayero immediately reels her blade back and thrusts it forward in a Fierce Jab.[6] The tip of the blade meets the shield, and to her satisfaction causes a few cracks to splinter outwards from the point of contact.

With a confident smirk, Ayero pulls back her hand sweeps her sword to the side in an attempt to cause even more damage to the shield with her Devil’s Graze , but Vorgoth sees through her intent and quickly turns the shield on its side. Swinging the massive slab of steel to the side, he switches hands and uses the force that the heavy object had gathered to swat Ayero’s attack away with a Shield Whirlwind.[7] The power of the move as well as Ayero putting her own pressure on the shield sends the Fanalis woman back several meters. Unfortunately for her, she misjudged her position in relation to the ground and came down wrong on one of her feet, causing her ankle to twist and her body to become unsteady for a few moments. Not waiting for his opponent to reorient herself, Vorgoth switches his shield back into a vertical position rushes forward, delivering another Grand Line to the Fanalis woman.[8]

Ayero grunts through gritted teeth as she takes the blow, able to hear the crack of her own ribs as the force of the attack sends her backwards. Landing on her feet, her chest heaves as she winces through the pain. Eyes searching her opponent, the Fanalis woman’s gaze lands on the cracks in the shield she had caused earlier. With a sharp exhale, she charges at Vorgoth with her blade to the side as if preparing an attack. Once she’s within striking range of the other Fanalis, Ayero reels back her fist and thrusts it dead into the middle of the cracks in the steel. Her fist causes several more large cracks to splinter along the weapon, its defensive power lost.[9] Feeling the shield shatter beneath the force of her Fanalis-grade blow, she can’t help but smile toothily. Almost immediately after the attack is dealt, Ayero digs one of her feet into the ground and springs upward, soaring 5 meters above Vorgoth in a Great Leap. Hopefully the crumbling of his shield would distract him long enough to be unable to defend himself against what she hoped would be her final move.

Well aware that Fanalis were rather dangerous even when unarmed, Ayero aimed to take this man out as quickly as possible now that he was without his shield. While airborne, Ayero exhales slowly as she steadies herself, urging her body to feel and gather what magoi she had into her arm and extend it along her outstretched blade. With a grunt bordering on a battle cry, the Fanalis woman puts her all into delivering a devastating Cross Slash[10] to the Fanalis man beneath her. The blade caught him in the shoulder and ripped down his front, leaving a smattering of crimson on the coliseum ground as blood seeped from the gash across his chest and abdomen.

Landing in a crouching position with her sword outstretched, Ayero watches as the man falls to the ground, relieved that her strategy had worked. The roar of the crowd reminded her that she was victorious in this battle and the Fanalis woman turns to flash them a smile. As the adrenaline of the fight wears off, the throbbing pain of broken ribs and bruised flesh becoming much more apparent. Holding her side, Ayero tries to steady her labored breathing as she makes her way back to the arena entrance.
