Name: Artorius "Arty" Caeus
Gender: Male
Personality: Artorius is rough and strength. He speaks bluntly and straight to the point. Many suggest he should lighten up more, but Artorius feels it is they who should calm down and be a bit more stoic. He is the kind of man who only sips at his drink during a banquet whilst silently observing those around him. Though he does not often take the initiative to speak on his own, he often has much to say. Artorius simply chooses not to speak. Ask him what is on his mind when the moment is right and the man can be capable of delivering monologues on his thoughts.
Once bound by a sense of honor and duty, he is familiar with rigid social structures such as those found in the military. as well as how to operate successfully within them. But his experiences jaded him and his sense of justice was shattered long ago. Artorius feels no responsibility towards his homeland or the people in it, even going so far as to become a brigand who would happily raid his own home village if it meant his pocket stayed full of coin. He particularly enjoys setting fires and has an strange obsession with them.
Hair Color: Blonde
Eye Color: Blue
Height: 170 cm
Weight: 65 kg
Appearance: As a man in his mid forties his age is beginning to show. The ages were not kind to Artorius' blonde hair line giving him a significant widows peak, but he is by no means going bald. His windswept locks are wavy and short with a gristly goatee of the same color adorning his stoic face. A face aged enough for a fair few wrinkles to show as well as a few places where the skin has begun to sag from the weight of his many years and traumas. Some small scars here and there serving as proof of what sort of bloodbaths those clouded blue eyes have seen.
He is of average build for a Reiman soldier as he never stopped training even after he deserted from the army. His muscular body could still put some younger men to shame but he is certainly feeling his age and can often be seen rubbing at a sore joint or getting short of breath more easily.

History:
- Spoiler:
- Artorius was born to a military family in Reim and had his life path set out for him from the very beginning. He took well to his training and was given all the support of his family to join the Reiman war machine. But after being wounded badly in his first skirmish, his father pulled some strings to get him reassigned away from the battlefield without consulting Artorius. He was humiliated and upset that he was being protected by his father's authority. Outraged at this he disobeyed orders and left his duty station to go join another expeditionary force to fight with the Heliohaptan army.
In the following battle Artorius went on to have great achievements but was still imprisoned upon his return having violated military orders. Again, his father moved to help him despite the cost to the family reputation and in heavy favors called upon to make it possible. Artorius could only laugh in disgust at the mockery of the entire system if its rules could be so easily circumnavigated by simply knowing the right people and having the right kind of favors to offer. But still, he stayed on in the army. This time, he was assigned to a special unit. One Reim had organized in secret. They were to go into enemy territory under the disguise of local bandits and wreck havoc along the lush river villages to force their main army at the border to divert some attention away from the front.
The weight of the mission did not truly settle in for Artorius until they arrived behind enemy lines and were arriving at the first village on their list of targets. These weren't soldiers, but civilians. Artorius wasn't the first to throw a torch, but he knew he wasn't going to be the last. If he wanted to survive this mission he couldn't show weakness. The fire danced like demons that night burning its image into Artorius' minds eye for the rest of his life. It struck fear into him then. But after many more burnings he grew numb to it. The man began to embrace the fires and even developed a tactic his team used on the Heliohaptan army when pursuers came. They once lit an entire company of men ablaze using an oil trap. Soon the fires became a thing to celebrate. A manifestation of true beauty.
When Artorius returned he was rewarded greatly and promoted. For having burned a bunch of people alive? The twisted nature of his reality was simply too much. Artorius could not continue the farce any longer and deserted from the Reiman army the next day. But living an honest life was something Artorius couldn't manage and he fell into his old habits of raiding, pillaging, and burning. This time, he became a menace for the Reiman countryside. In a strange karmic justice, he wrought the same carnage his country had asked him to commit on their neighbors and for a time, that was enough for Artorius.
His life changed however when he raided a village that was sheltering a strange foreign beggar. The man had a silver tongue and a strange charisma about him that Artorius couldn't deny. The man from Kina was named Nubou and stood out during the attack because he was simply standing there watching the buildings burn and the people die. When Artorius asked him what he was doing, Nobuo just yawned and said he was admiring the view. Such a ridiculous answer, and yet it spurred Artorius' love of fires and so he struck up a conversation. Artorius had his men stop the slaughter for being a "distraction" and went on to heatedly discuss with Nobuo the beauty of fires.
They discussed its aesthetic charm, but also its practical use. Cooking, purification, clearing brush, smoking, the uses went on and on until they came to military application. Then Nobuo brought up the tactic of using a disguised special unit behind enemy lines and gave Artorius a knowing look. Artorius was at a loss for words and could only stare. Nobuo laughed and explained he had also spent some time in an army. The two men laughed and their friendship was sealed. Artorius would ask Nobuo to join his band of brigands but the beggar-like man refused and simply said he was enjoying his time in the small Reiman village. Artorius spared the village further harm as a show of respect and left, but he was changed by the meeting.
Though Artorius didn't quit his life of crime, he did stop going out to personally take part in raids. Instead he stayed back at base camp leaving his men to do most of the dirty work while he sat and watched the bonfire making plans for the brigands. He felt like he was missing something. That life was somehow without meaning. Then a letter from Nubou came. It spoke of a dream, hard work, and good pay. Artorius dropped everything and took a few trusted men to join Nobuo in Balbadd. This was the only other man Artorius had met who understood his obsession with flames. So at the very least it should be more interesting than playing ringleader of a bunch of bandits.
Artorius has thus joined Nobuo's quest home to Kina and has decided to help this kindred spirit in hopes that it helps himself find meaning in life.
