News of a traveling circus reached Zion's ears just a few days ago. The young magician's life was embroiled in no shortage of trouble and it was hardly the time to go sight seeing for fun. But the rumors had mentioned that the circus was a "great" performance and exceeded what many thought possible for a traveling troupe. That one word was enough to pique Zion's interest as he had yet to fully grasp the meaning behind his father's dying request to "become a great person"  as it was about as vague as a last wish could be.

Long silver locks overflowed from Zion's hood as he wore his traveler's cloak tightly to hide both his ears and tails alike. The foxly features being something he could not safely reveal lest word of his appearance spread to the organization that had enslaved him just a few months prior.  The magician knew that a mere cloak was not enough of a disguise however and thus had a more complete obfuscation of his appearance at the ready. Once his sandaled feet had carried him deep into Western Reim and the circus tent was in sight, Zion strained slightly as his Trickster Foxspirit technique brought subtle changes to his visage.

Long silver hair turned golden blonde like an afternoon sun. His smooth androgynous face became much more masculine with rougher edges and a more squared jaw. His physical frame even expanded slightly, the youth growing a few centimeters to 183cm tall in total. A playful smile and curious eyes peered out from the low hanging hood of his cloak as Zion neared the line of people gathered up to purchase tickets for this 'show of the century' as a carnie was claiming through a cone which magnified his voice.

"Come one, come all! The show of the century awaits you, folks! We've got wonders from across the globe! Amazing feats to stun the spirit and deceive your very eyes! That's right, folks! Step right up! We sell more than just tickets here, we sell life itself! For once you experience this show you'll realize you've never lived until today!"

The boastful claims had underlying hints to those who could hear the dog whistle. But such subtle clues went entirely over Zion's head as he slowly meandered along with the line, just as eager to purchase a ticket as the rest of the people here. "I wonder if they offer snacks...I'm a bit hungry." The oblivious magician muttered to himself as he neared the end of the queue and presented some coins to exchange for a ticket. He had come far too late to snatch one of the coveted seats up close to the center stage. Instead, he was stuck with one of the nose bleeders up atop the stands. But such an arrangement had its own benefits as Zion would have a wide view of the entire performance area inside the tent.

"Peanuts for sale~ Get your fresh nuts!"

Called a man aside from the entering throngs of people. Zion was delighted to find a snack available. He had never tried these peanuts before, but was grateful for anything after listening to his stomach unleash a rumbling growl. "I'll take one!" The boy said happily as he exchanged even more of his coins for a small bag of nuts. There was an awkward feeling in Zion's gut however as he felt how light his pockets had become. "Are these strange nuts really so valuable? Do they hold special properties?" Zion muttered to himself as he made his way to his seat.

Whispers and excited mutterings could be heard among the crowd as anticipation for the show grew. Zion pulled out one of his peanuts and took a bite not aware that the shells were to be peeled. His face promptly twisted in disgust, but after spending so much on them he couldn't bare to let the nuts go to waste. So he arduously continued to chew which elicited strange looks from those seated on either side of him. Crunch, crunch, crunch. Zion munched away in misery as he too waited in eager anticipation for the coming show to begin.

She was not comfortable.

She had come after Caligulas insisted that the Barris Circus was a spectacle, but Zubaidah had seen nothing spectacular. She had attended many a circus before, even partaken in one too many. But, if she were being honest, she would rather not remember her life upon Reim’s streets that had driven her into the carnival’s embrace.

It made her feel uncomfortable.

Indeed, afraid that she might be identified, Zubaidah had dressed down for the occasion, her hair dyed black with henna and hard work. She had taken efforts to straighten her hair, matching the simplicity with a short and unassuming dress. If she was seen by Jahan or Maelius now, what would they think? She dismissed the thought from her mind, pulling the Head of Command tighter around her head. Was it over-kill that she covered her eyes with that mask of hers? Perhaps, but she thought it was best that she hide her identity as much as she could. After all, she wanted nothing and nobody to identify her. It was uncomfortable enough that she was here, and she wanted no further discomfort.

And so, Zubaidah shuffled into the tent with her eyes closed and ears wide-open, sitting down far from the stage itself. She busied herself with listening to those around her, catching snippets from conversations all around herself. As she listened, however, her ears would be bombarded with voices and whispers that overlapped with one another, just as had become part and parcel of daily life. She let loose her mantra of ‘shitty Ipos’ before putting in some wax earbuds and tuning into the melodies of the rukh. It had become all too common that she heard the rukh’s words over those of people, if she were being honest. How she wished it were not the case…

As she felt the audience quieten down, however, Zubaidah poured some magoi in her Head of Command and her sight transferred upwards, overlooking the audience. If anyone from the audience were observant enough, they might catch sight of a flame-red bird hanging around the tent-top, looking down upon them with interest. For Zubaidah, however, this bird acted as the eyes that let her be a spectator in the show.

The show soon began after all the attending guests had taken their seats. A short chubby man in a mask came out from behind a set of curtains to introduce the various acts as they emerged from behind one by one. First was a complex juggler, then a fire eater, followed by an acrobatic troupe. Many of the common Reiman citizens were amused by the performances. Ah's and Ooh's accompanied the climax of each act followed by many claps and cheers. However, Zion was among the minority of attendees who seemed wholly unimpressed with the circus.

Crunch, crunch, crunch. The disguised magician held a bored expression as he continued to begrudgingly chew on shelled peanuts. Though the fire eating had surprised him, he could see little to be impressed about. The rest of the acts were all feats he had either seen before or found little interest in. As such, he began to let his eyes wander. It did not take too long for him to spot the curious red bird up above. "Oh?" The blonde haired magician raised a brow, his eyes capable of seeing the rukh around the creature denoting that it was not a natural being.

Zion began to watch not the show, but the majestic bird up above. The creature seemed to be less interested in the performance down below, and more interested in what was going on behind the curtain. Curious, Zion brushed his hand across his wand and gave it a short swipe within his cloak. At the same time, he covered one eye with his other hand to hide the circular window of light that formed. Another circle of light formed up above near the bird construct and angled itself to provide Zion with a view from the same vantage point.

As she watched the show from her vantage point, Zubaidah was reminded further about her time within the Lugovian Circus. It had been cruel and painful, a spectacle for the condescending, but she had found family in spite of it all. In this circus, however, there was something off. She could not explain herself fully, but the performers seemed too easy, as if they were in a world of their own. In her eyes, the Barris Circus did not have the same drive as the Lugovian Circus.

It felt as if the performers did not care whether the audience liked them or not, unlike the intensity of her former circus where they had pushed themselves towards ever more bold and daring acts. Indeed, this performance seemed dull and amateurish, if she was being honest, not like a professional circus at all.

In fact, it reminded her of a time when a craze among Reiman youths was to become ‘actors’, as the circus called their acrobats. This led the circus performers into the scheme of conning them something that would supposedly make them limber, a scheme into which Zubaidah was coerced. She was told that she should sell them oils made from very cheap grease, the rich and naive convinced that they would come out as full-fledged actors once the lubricant was applied. Indeed, she would often find that someone she had conned would apply for the position of student to the ‘director’, or head acrobat.

In some cases, however, prospect students would be accepted and pushed onto strong blankets of canvas from great heights over and over as practice. It was for ‘building up their endurance’ according to the ringmaster, but Zubaidah knew better. The circus saw the youths who wanted a taste of acrobatics as insults towards what they had worked themselves to the bone for. After all, they had been driven from town and village, called beggars and parasites, but now the rich and established were willing to accept the circus? Why should the ringmaster accept the same people who had once called them names just because they had taken a fancy to the circus?

She was soon turned aside from her memories when the ringmaster reminded Zubaidah and the audience that the performance was coming to an end. She was not satisfied with the performers, however, as she noticed their acts had become more boring and disjointed throughout the performance. As such, if she was being honest, she had begun to assume that the circus was just a swindler’s scheme.

As she became suspicious all the more, she had her bird’s eye view move outside the tents, wondering what set-up they had. Her construct flew over the pin-tops and stripes, following the performers who had just left the scene towards a set of cages set into a wagon. Confused, since there had been no animals in their performances, Zubaidah perched upon a nearby tent and took a closer view.

After a split second, however, the bird vanished from its perch.

Inside the tent, Zubaidah had folded her magic tool into her dress and walked towards one of the staff entrances, her face masked with calm. As she saw the ringleader, Zubaidah came and shook his hand with fervour, congratulating him with 'what a great show' and 'when will you put it on again'.

If someone saw her other hand, however, they would see her lift her hair and reveal darts hidden behind the black locks, sharp and most certainly meant for cutting.

The avian construct was far more fascinating to Zion than the circus performance down below. So when the magic borne creature departed, the small circle of light turned and followed. The clairvoyance spell lacked the speed to keep up however and so it slowly meandered behind. By the time Zion's spell caught up with the bird it had just vanished before his eye. One potential reason why soon became apparent to Zion as he too witnessed the procession of performers being herded into the cage lined wagons. Realization dawned on Zion. The magic beast was serving recon duty, and now proof of a crime had been discovered.

The lens of light faded and Zion removed his cupped hand from the affected eye. His face was a deep frown. The magician sat unmoving even as the circus wrapped up its act and the others around him applauded and cheered. Slowly, Zion stood and followed the flow of people as they moved towards the exit. He didn't notice the blind folded beauty at all as she moved to the staff exit, nor did he spare any thought as to who the owner of that asura bird might have been. His mind was possessed with the thought of those people being led into cages.

He had spent his fair share of time in the back of a wagon locked up in a cage. As far as Zion was concerned, even just a single moment imprisoned as such was far too many. Slavery was outlawed here, but even if it weren't he felt that this urge to go do something about it likely wouldn't be something his conscience could silence. As he left the tent he broke off from the crowd and moved to circle around the other side. Two circus workers eventually moved to stop him. "Sorry, sir. Staff only round the back. Please leave with the rest of the audience." Spoke the more rotund of the two face painted performers in a rather polite tone. But Zion was not interested in putting up with their farce.

"Out of my way."

Dour and dark in both expression and tone, Zion forced his way past them whilst clenching his fist to gather magoi. The two circus workers exchanged glances and then checked their surroundings. Some of the crowd were still visible around the corner as they left the area but none were looking this way so the two felt secure in making their move as long as they were stealthy about it. "Curiosity killed the cat dont'chya know..." The thinner man said in a grim tone. Zion stopped and looked over his shoulder just in time to see one of them launched a spider's kiss while the other doubled down but he had expected them to try and halt his progress. The storm kitsune was ready, his simmering anger made manifest through the maelstrom of his magic.

A tail emerged from beneath this cloak and swirled through the air as the blocked the three needle-like projectiles. Rather than find purchase in flesh to deposit their poisons, the darts were bogged down in the fluffy fur of Zion's fox tail. At the same time, Zion opened his clenched fist and produced four small petal shaped lightning clouds. The dark crackling petals drifted behind him slightly and Zion turned his gaze back forward as he proceeded to advance. The two circus workers stepped forward the stop the cloaked man and failed to notice these small cloud petals until it was already too late. A pair of lightning bolts arced towards each man releasing a miniature thunderous boom. His rage was roared not by throat, but by the thunderclap of his lightning. The two circus workers were sent flying backwards, their muscles convulsing from the shock.

Screams rose from the pedestrians who were still not far away. The commotion had not gone unnoticed and upon seeing two smoking circus workers fall the people were set into a chaos. Orderly exiting lines turned into a stampeding crowd as many fled in hopes of not being wrapped up into things whilst a braver few stood by craning their necks in curiosity. Zion cared little for either reaction, his tail having already retracted back out of sight beneath his clothing. The magician strode forwards drawing his wand in hand, prepared to fell any others who might stand in his way of reaching the slave wagons.

I would love a back-stage tour, mister!’ As she worked her lies into his head, the rukh revealed memories that confirmed Zubaidah's visions. ‘I am amazed that you decided that children were no better than animals for your cages!’ Her words were filled with venom, sending the ringmaster into confusion, when the rukh confirmed that the ring-master and his Barris Circus was using slave labour. ‘I thought Reim had outlawed them…’ She pressed a dart into his back, enough that he would feel the pressure, not that Zubaidah would draw blood. ‘But the Senate has not cared about that, have they?

When the ring-master hesitated once the Senate was mentioned, Zubaidah took ahold of her sash and wrapped it tight around his neck.

Be glad that I value the law above your life.

He pawed at the material, but Zubaidah held and tightened further until the ring-master slumped onto the ground, unconscious but not dead. She was uncertain when he would awaken, however, so Zubaidah found some cords from back-stage and hog-tied him secure. After all, why should she treat him kinder when he treated humans as animals for entertainment?

She could not plan her action further, however, since a clap of thunder riled the audience into a scared frenzy. Anxious and concerned for her mission, Zubaidah moved away from the back-entrance closest to the thunder-clap, hoping that she could circle around and secure her target from the other side.

As she weaved between tents and shadows, Zubaidah found that there were no circus-workers where she was heading, the rest drawn towards the loud noises. Well, there were none until she got closer, seeing that two men were stationed between her and the wagons that held the cages.

But that was no problem.

She whistled towards the first man, hidden within the shadows, and lured him closer towards her hiding-spot. As he approached, Zubaidah cast Frost Bite and waited. Once he was close enough, she surprised him with fangs emerging from the ground and biting his feet, before she covered his move with one hand and struck him upon the head twice with her darts until he was unconscious.

She had been cautious, but not cautious enough, since the second man realised that the first man had not returned to his guard-post. As he walked towards her hiding-spot, Zubaidah cast Frozen Talons and distracted him, before revealing herself and leaping towards him, darts aimed towards his arms. He was prepared, however, taking a hold of a dart-gun from his clothing. Before he could act, Zubaidah sent her Frost Talons towards his legs, causing him to stumble.

As he fell, he made a last-ditch attempt to use two Spider’s Kisses, missing her the first time, but struck Zubaidah in the arm on the second. She gave him no more time to act, however, kicking away his dart-gun and knocking him unconscious with two blows to his head.

She breathed heavily, drawing out the dart from her arm, but Zubaidah could feel it throb with more than just pain. She had no idea why these circus’ workers had those dart-guns, but she could tell that they had laced their darts with poison. She struggled onto her feet, nursing her arm, as she tried to remember Kut’s advice about poisons. She could not think, however, as her legs trembled and collapsed onto the ground again.

Damn, she was so close to her goal, and yet she could not finish it.

Still oblivious to his unexpected collaborator inside the tent and how his actions may have foiled her plains, Zion marched forward to meet the rest of the circus workers. His previous action had lacked subtlety and so now the rest of the caravan's fighting force was now baring down upon him. Thankfully the numbers were not too far beyond his capabilities. Four clownish men rushed over with intentions just as hostile as Zion's own. Good. It made mercy less of a temptation when his foes approached with weapons drawn. "Who the hell are you!? Do you have any idea who you're messing with?" Shouted one of the men as he threw a Spare Web towards him.

"Slaver scum?"

Zion answered casually stopping his advance and rose an arm to block the projectile only to have it shatter on his limb. Sticky webbing scattered across the magician's body ensnaring him. This obstruction was something his meagre human level strength could not break free of. The four men watched with arrogant glee as Zion made some effort to struggle free only for the elastic webbing to contract and pull his limbs back to where they started. The hood of his cloak cast his eyes in shadow but the frown on his face was apparent as he glared at the circus workers.

"This is something you brought on yourself. Don't blame us for being ruthless!"

One of the men growled as each of them prepared a spider's kiss to throw. The volley of darts was unleashed and in short order they arrived at the web bound intruder. But Zion's figure suddenly shifted as he left them one foreboding line. "If you weren't ruthless, I might feel some guilt for what I am about to do." These words were punctuated by an abrupt transformation of the Storm Kitsune's body as he morphed into a fox made of lightning. The transformation altered his silhouette causing all four darts to miss their mark. Cloth and flesh were now intense arcs of lightning which burned away the webbing in an instant. With a shrill scream of a fox, the lightning beast arced forwards with great speed. Zion passed between the four men and lashed out with his tails striking each of them once with lightning. The men convulsed on the spot briefly before collapsing to the floor with subtle wisps of smoke rising from their bodies. Just like the previous two, these men were not quite dead. Zion's anger had not boiled over to the point of bloodlust.

The light coming from Zion's body dimmed as he transitioned back from lightning to flesh. Still donning his cloak, the magician stepped forward once more towards the slave wagon. The imprisoned people within were unsure of what was going on outside. They heard the booms of thunder and the crack of lightning. They heard shouting. But could not make out exactly what was being said nor were they sure what to make of it. So when the dark hooded figure appeared at the back of the wagon it was no surprised that most of them reacted with fear rather than gratitude. None of this bothered Zion, however. He still proceeded with his plan. Veins appeared at his hand and his nails grew from strengthened cartilage forming a handfull of claws. Using his sharpened claws, Zion swipped at each lock on each cage releasing these poor people from their prisons.

"T-Thank you, thank you!"

Though fear and hesitation filled the slaves, one spoke up in gratitude. They could not see their savior's face, only the fair skin and long golden locks which overflowed from his travelers cloak hood. "If you wish to show your gratitude then be careful not to find yourselves recaptured." There was a faint smile on his face as he turned away from them and made to step down off of the wagon.

"If any of you are unsure of where to go, someone should be here soon to help you." Zion said nonchalantly as he made to depart. His physical form was beginning to itch and tingle which told him that his transformation had reached its limit. He could not afford to be seen in his genuine appearance, so Zion reached into his cloak for his wand. With a flick of the magic tool and a tap upon his person, Zion vanished from sight before the freed slave's very eyes. Now invisible, the magician stepped not onto the ground, but onto the are itself. An unnatural gust accompanied his steps as Zion rode the storm winds upwards into the air. He did not immediately leave the area however, and lingered there 6m above ground where he would watch quietly to make sure the people got away safely, but also out of curiosity. Surely the owner of that bird he'd seen earlier would soon arrive to rescue the slaves. Zion wanted to see for himself just who was controlling the magical beast.

Come on, you can do this…’ As she winced with pain, Zubaidah struggled onto her feet with fire searing through her arm and stomach. ‘Damn, what was inside those darts?

She hobbled over and grabbed one of the dart-guns for herself. As she inspected them, Zubaidah removed the darts and placed them into her satchel, so that she could analyse them later. For she was not familiar with poisons herself, but Anna and Kut were more than experts within that field. Indeed, it was high time that she familiarised herself with them, especially since Zubaidah had the teachers and resources for such an endeavour, but Caligulas had sent her in the here and now to free the slaves - and she needed to act fast.

As she left the tent, her stomach aching with each step, Zubaidah found that someone had released the slaves already. She looked towards the locks, broken with brute force, and wondered who might have realised the Barris Circus was hiding them here. Even as she rushed towards the slaves, calming and reassuring them, Zubaidah thought back at the events leading towards this moment. Had there been someone else involved with them?

As she wondered, reuniting mothers with children and feeding famished men with what food she could find, Zubaidah recalled the faint screen of light watching over her Asura bird. It must have conjured by some magician. Indeed, it must have been some magician who had caught onto her circumstances as well! After all, she had seen similar feats from Noir and Silius, but she was unsure where the magician must have gone afterwards.

There was no evidence when looking around, however, so Zubaidah relented in her search. Instead, once she had moved most of the slaves away from the circus and into her carriage where a Benjin maid awaited them, she returned and called out softly around the now-empty cages,

If you are still here, whoever you might be, thank you for your kindness.’ She bowed her head with courtesy, but there was a melancholy smile upon her face as she did so. ‘Such kindness is a rare sight nowadays.’ Uncertain whether she had even been heard, Zubaidah then turned to follow after the slaves as well, her stomach aching but her heart warmed.

"So kind of you to take care of my performers, but let me give you a real show" a voice would sing. A canary above sat on a tight rope, in light of rose from the top of the tent it twirled on the wire. Round and round it spun until the bird would let go, as it dove past the wire there was no longer a cute little creature but a clown-faced performer. She fell head first, with no net it was surely a fall that would kill her. A smile appeared on the woman's face, ten meters before crashing she would toss three tarot cards.

The first two cards she threw would be at the invaders, for Zion it was a Card of Imprisonment, and then for Zub a Card of Bloodletting. Her spells were to bring out their pain, to have fun with them. She was not your normal fighter, in the times that were coming a new breed of combatant was coming around. Magic was becoming a science for the people in the world. She had no strong affinity to magic, but she was blessed enough to see the rukh, to see the spirit.

There was strong magic around the male, that was the reason for her third card, the Card of Control. The earth below her had become a comforting hand, it held the woman tightly in a cradle. She had used this spell not just to catch her but to protect her from the retaliation that was likely to come. No one ever got caught easily, but what was the fun in a hunt with now chase?

"Come on come on let's get to know each, we can share our special talents! My name is Nero Risus. Do you like my make-up, oh, and what about my cute tattoo, oh but you'll have to look for that" she would joke. She would hope the card of command would watch her back.

So it was this blindfolded woman who had moved to rescue the slaves? Curiosity filled Zion as he watched the stranger struggle against the poison flowing through her. He found it strange. Her wounds didn't seem quite as sever as her movements suggested. Zion was too inexperienced to guess that the cause was poison lacing the circus worker's darts. He considered offering help but after watching her preside over the freed slaves it seemed like she would be fine without his help. Zion gave a sigh of relief and prepared to leave. It was then that the eccentric voice sounded out from atop the tent. Zion glanced towards the sound and frowned at the sight of of the clownish performer. It was clear at a glance that they were with the circus. Clearer still by their words and actions that they did not intend to let either himself or the woman leave until the "show" had reached a final conclusion.

Due to the nature of the tarot card being thin, Zion failed to capture its release and only noticed when it was too late to avoid being hit. The imprisonment card slapped onto his chest and then the earth below rose up in various tendrils which twisted and coiled into a cage around the magician. Trapped six meters above ground, Zion paused briefly as his body returned to its normal state. Golden locks turned silver and nine tails furled out behind him to press against the stone bars. Thankfully, his invisibility spell was still being sustained by his magoi to keep these transformations hidden from sight. Zion looked over the stone bars of his cage and then focused on the strange colorful acrobat.

"Unfortunately, I have no interest in getting to know one who keeps people locked up in cages. While I appreciate this VIP room you've built me, I have nothing to give in thanks aside from the sharpest of criticisms."

Zion spoke in a deep low voice that was not his usual tone. Since he was still invisible it seemed like some disembodied ghost was responding to Nero's words. Thankfully, Zion still had his wand in hand to channel his Sight Bend Coat. He squeezed the wand tightly and used what little movement he had within the cage to point it towards Nero. Six spectral blades manifested in the air just outside the stone cage. Six phantom copies then floated next to them. Each blade was 1.5m in length and the dozen of them floated in intertwining trajectories. They briefly mixed around to confuse which among them were the originals and which ones were phantom copies. Then, without warning, the 12 swords launched themselves towards Nero. With so many swords there was more than enough fire power to crush her stone hand defenses and still have some left over to threaten the performer. Zion only hoped the spread of attacks would make evasion easier said than done.

Damn, kindness is truly worth nothing, is it?’ As she hurried the remaining slaves away, Zubaidah cursed the clown-masked Nero through gritted teeth. ‘Time to vent some anger instead then!

Her spears left elsewhere, Zubaidah made do with her Graceful Airs, avoiding the Card of Bloodletting with a well-timed scaled Fluid Evasion five metres away. Shaking her sash in her dodge-turned dance, she would capitalise upon Zion’s blades holding Nero’s attention - a sure sign that her magician was still here - and cast a scaled Frozen Talons. As a flock of ice-cold birds flew towards Nero, Zubaidah would use the time bought to dive behind the nearest cover, ordering them to crowd Nero. She could feel her stomach churn as she moved, stumbling despite her Graceful Airs, but her systems were acclimatising towards the poison thanks to her introduction under Kut.

It feels more like my stomach is venting its anger on me, rather than mine on that bloody clown…

executed scaled Fluid Evasion, boosted with Graceful Airs, away from Call of Bloodletting

cast and scaled Frozen Talons four times, producing ten D Tier birds from all sides as a distraction, aiming for Nero's limbs
(used 50 magoi since presumed magic tool abilities are not halved)

rushed towards cover, using Graceful Airs to avoid any preliminary damage

Nero would find that she would need to be quick in response to deal with the swarming attacks of her opponents. She was sure her defenses would not hold against such a fervent assault, so she would throw two Cards of Control. She would need to stay on the defensive in order to survive, so she would cast a Card of disguise to make herself appear like one of her own defenses. While she was quick to move, she was not quick enough. As 6 blades would slice through it she would see the other six coming towards her, two of them managing to strike her right leg removing it cleaning from her body and the illusion.

Like a cup spinning to hide the ball she would rotate the cups around her trying to move them on only one leg. She was unfortunate as she would also get struck by one of the icy birds that hovered above. It would strike her left arm, making it unable for her to move. She would go for a straightforward attack, rushing towards them both, mostly towards Zion she would amongst her illusion throw a card of the void. It was a suicide attempt, but Nero did not care. Her life had been given to the spiders, whether she did good, or failed if she was going to die it would be on her own terms.

It was a play on the eye, to see how well they could see. But, no matter how well she moved or how sneaky her attack was, there was still a trail of blood following behind where the illusion broke free.

Dm notes: Checked the math, would take 6 blades to destroy the spell since each one does B-tier, I believe she would've been able to clash with the other four blades that did not cut off her Leg. Zubs birds don't really do damage so I manage with the spell she would've been able to confuse the spell and stop some of them with her rotating spells which are right by her. We established she was 10m away beforehand, with your actions I imagine she is still within 5-15m if you moved back at all, she's attempting to suicide bomb which will break the illusion as it happens, but there is also a trail of blood even if she's playing hide the ball with her body.

Nero could not fool Zubaidah. Zion had made room for enough clues that Zubaidah could work out a solution within her head. Yes, It was time the curtain fell on this farce, and the Barris Circus was revealed as the culprit. After all, she was the detective, was she not?

She tracked Nero’s blood, watching where it came and went, and deduced which illusion concealed her. She was rather curious about those cards, since they produced such a variety of spells, but she was wary of them even more. Before she could use any other spell, such as the Card of the Void, Zubaidah ordered her remaining Frozen Talon birds to attack Nero, immobilising her limbs. As she floundered, Zubaidah created a lion out of Asura magic through her Head of Command, who could bear her from the battlefield if it became too much.

She made no more moves. Zubaidah had done her part as detective after all. It was Zion’s turn now to take the role of jailer or executioner.

As Nero performed one last bloody dance for fate Zion could not help but feel an unspoken sadness. Even as her leg was severed, the clown maintained her smile and continued her "show" without a hint of complaint. What had driven this woman to such a life? How could someone capable of smiling like that overlook the suffering of people who are right in front of them? Zion held neither regret nor joy towards killing the leader of a slave trade. But to kill Nero, it brought him faint sorrow. Zion wondered what it could have been like to sit down over tea with this person and have talked about their lives. But instead they were here fighting each other killing one another without hesitation or mercy.

Invisibility still cloaked Zion and yet he did his best to watch Nero despite the spinning defenses. He wanted to meet eyes with this strange clown. To search her soul of an answer to his curiosity. But His naïve notion was suppressed by the rational mind. Zion remained vigilant and soon experienced a fright as Nero suddenly made a rush towards him. "Perfect Stage Domain!" The magician commanded as his wand tapped the air and the space around them became suffused with an advanced combination of three types of rukh. Zion decided to give Nero a taste of her own medicine and ordered the rukh to converge around the advancing clown in the form of a half sphere 4m in diameter.

Like a cup on the table, Nero had become the ball trapped within. The void card she just released was now trapped inside with her. From outside the illusion cup Zion expected to hear a thud as Nero ran into the wall. Instead he expressed horror as some terrible force within made cracks quickly form as the barrier collapsed. Zion quickly sustained his spell and formed another cup-like barrier around the outside of the first one. The force within was enough to bring the second wall to collapse as well but spent the last of its energy to do so.

Zion watched his spell crumble away and sighed. What remained of Nero was inside. He didn't know what sort of attack she had used as he was unable to see through his own illusion. But it must have been powerful if it had taken her own life. Zion suspected the woman never intended to survive that last attack. This only made him feel more confused about this person's way of thinking. Was this sort of madness in line with fate? He sought guidance from the woman's rukh and watched the woman's body carefully as the last vestiges of life left her flesh.

Their gamble had paid off and they had beaten Nero at her game. Sorrow would hang in the air as their victory was seemingly for naught if they wished to draw information from their attacker. Maybe they could find solace in the extra cash she held or the experience of the battle but she certainly was a strange combatant with her cards. She had vigor up until her death, maybe it was strange for her to kill herself but often those who were most the most drastic had a message to send. Upon her corpse, alone side the set of magic tarot cards there was one that held a message on it. The card rested next to a spider tattoo on Neros face on mask now free of her breathless body. Upon it said a simple message "BEWARE THE GOLIATH BIRD-EATER"
