Spoiler:

Endolf scowled as he read through the local papers. Rebellions had begun to finally break out across the continent of Kou, those opposing the return of some former emperor named Gao Yuan Zu and others opposing the current emperor Yoshiro Zu. Battle were being fought between the supporters of Yuan and the soldiers under Yoshiro’s command. It all agitated the already easily angered Fanalis. He would wad the few pieces of paper up before he could finish reading the whole thing and would throw it as far off as he could. Currently the redhead had kept himself out of the city, surviving on the edge of the capitol and dodging the soldiers and rebels alike.

His arm would hang down at his side again, brushing against his cloak that draped over the tree branch he had been resting on. His other hand would pull his hood over his eyes once again. For all he was concerned the only thing worth doing at the moment was to take a nap. A sharp cry of distress would prevent him from napping however and caused him to scan around with his crimson eyes for the source of the sound. From the right, along the eastern side of the city’s borders, came a pair of figures. One stayed in the same spot, collapsing onto his knees as the figure ahead of him continued to run towards Endolf’s tree. The redhead’s mouth would twitch into a sneer of annoyance at the fiasco.

Once the figure running towards his tree was close enough it would be his end as Endolf would leap down from his branch and drive his heel into the man’s skull before landing on his feet.

xxxxxx Diana had been traveling some time down a road on the outskirts of Kou. She always found farmlands and ranches to be the more beautiful parts of countries. The neat lines of freshly plowed fields and the comforting smells of morning dew filled the air. The half-ling had heard stories of bandits taking advantage of these poorer areas since there was a civil war brewing. If anything, Diana didn't want anything to do with it. But a sudden call of distress echoed from down the road. She grasped onto Pluto's mane as she placed a light kick to his side. He ran off into the direction before abruptly stopping in between a cowering family and three bandits. A red-haired man had seemed to have just taken care of one right as they arrived. Diana gazed over at him briefly before sliding off the canine and placing her hand on the hilt of her sword. "Help us!" the mother pleaded. These people were obviously in trouble and the three men in front of her didn't seem like the nicest people.

xxxxxx "I'm feeling nice today," said Diana, preparing to draw her sword, "I'll give you to three to leave." The bandits looked at each other and laughed at the statement. "One," she began. One of the men drew his sword, approaching the seemingly frail girl in front of him. "Two." Pluto was now in one of the bandit's face, his jaw dripping with saliva that sizzled as it hit the rocky road below. "Three." Diana drew her sword, using a basic slash on the bandit in front of her. Her companion took this as a signal to attack, basic biting into the terrified man in front of him. The dog kept the man in his jaws, continuing to basic bite him as the man in his mouth used the last of his strength to try and kick the canine but to no avail. Diana used a basic slash on the man again, felling him. The third bandit, however, wasn't occupied with attacks. He managed to stab her in the back while she wasn't looking. The cut wasn't deep but she furrowed her brow at the sudden pain that radiated from the new wound on her back. She bent forward to dislodge his sword out of her back and brought her feet upwards for a powerful basic kick to his chest.

xxxxxx The bandit fell backwards onto the ground, defeated. Pluto turned over to her after he was done eating the man he was chewing on to pick her up by the back of her shirt. He moved her over a few steps so she could get herself together before staring at another bandit who had appeared from the home they were in front of. The bandit had said something but the growling from her beast blocked out the sound. He was different from the other ones, much more cocky. Though it was clear it would not just be a physical battle. The man had the family tied up as hostages, seemingly threatening to kill them with his axe. Diana kept herself sitting on the ground, hushing Pluto in order to hear what this bandit had to say for himself. "Hostages?" she asked, her voice dull and uninterested. She had seen many things like this before so this wasn't new to her. Rather it was getting quite old. "You're trash," she said, laying back into the grass and tilting her head backwards to gaze at the cloaked man who was by a tree behind them. She wondered if he was going to do anything about the situation.

As Endolf would kick the bandit’s fresh corpse away from him, not caring in the slightest that the heel of his boot was now stained by the former man’s blood and brain matter, he could hear the commotion coming from where the bandit had been running from. Picking up whatever it was that the former man had been running off with, a small box from the looks of it, Endolf would turn to watch as more combat began to unfold. Three more bandits terrorized a small farm house, with only a young woman and an overly large dog being there to put up an opposing fight. Several seconds would pass as Endolf watched the young woman handle the three bandits, not without any form of fault in her fighting, but still fairly well. He even found himself growing amused with her beast’s choice to begin eating one of the bandits it had just defeated.

Carrying the box over he would watch as yet another bandit appeared, ax lifted over his shoulder. The new bandit was enough to infuriate the Fanalis. The larger, more portly bandit wasn’t anything more interesting to look at than his companions had been. Like them he wore tattered clothes, clearly stolen from others he had robbed before, yet his did seem to be covered in stains. It wasn’t these stained clothes or the golden piercings in his ear and lip. No, it was his hair. As fiery and crimson in color as Endolf’s own. The fact that this bandit was of the same race as Endolf enraged the warrior, almost seeming to cause his own hair to lift and move in the wind. Not unlike a blazing inferno unto itself.

“You’re pretty decent girl.” One boot would hit the ground after the other as he approached, clearly not caring if he was noticed. It would actually seem that he wanted this poor excuse for a Fanalis to know he was arriving from behind him. “But you. You’re just pathetic.”

This time his words were addressed directly to the man standing between himself and the girl who had dealt with his three underlings. “Oh? I don’t know who you are but I’ll be glad to take that chest back from ya.” The bandit would turn around and smirk upon seeing that Endolf was holding the box.

“You’re a piece of filth not fit to be part of the Fanalis lineage.” The warrior’s crimson eyes would almost burn holes into the bandit leader as he stared him down. “You want the box, it’s yours.” He would lob the small box towards the bandit leader, only to take action almost instantaneously after.

Endolf would rush up after the box and slam his fist into it, turning the small container into a makeshift projectile aimed directly for the leader’s forehead. It if landed or not didn’t matter to him as the former coliseum fighter would continue moving forward, intent on eliminating the stain to his kind’s name. The box did hit the man in the forehead however, shattering upon impact and sending him stumbling backwards. He would recover just before Endolf was upon him, clearly capable of handling himself in a fight as Endolf felt any Fanalis worth his grit should be able to. The bandit would attempt to retaliate, trying to kick his boot out at the oncoming embodiment of rage as he rushed head-long. But Endolf was far more nimble than the bulky-yet-bloated foe he faced and leapt above him to Dodge! the pathetic attempt at countering, slamming his own boot down into the man’s nose not very unlike how he had dispatched his earlier underling.

And it was over. Endolf had managed to deal the killing blow to the bandit’s leader as blood ran down from the man’s nose. His corpse falling to the ground as Endolf simply stood over him. “You weren’t a Fanalis. You were just scum.” He would spit on the man’s corpse in his subsiding anger.

xxxxxx She sat herself up to watch the fight between the leader and the man. Rummaging through her back, she found some cloth to wrap around her wound for now. Pluto stayed in front of her watching both of the men's movements intently. When the box shattered on the bandit she could hear the woman below him gasp. Diana wondered what the point of that action was. He destroyed the family's property for the sake of battling. The halfling groaned, scooting herself over to the family to untie them. Once they were all untied and moved away, the fight was over. There were dead bodies everywhere which obviously shook up the civilians. "Pluto, clean this up," ordered Diana, quickly pointing at all the bodies. "You too," she said, looking directly at the red haired man. She picked up two of the bodies and walked them over to the hill ahead of them. It was steep and would at least keep the bodies out of sight for now. Pluto dragged one of the bodies away to consume it, however. Diana threw the bodies down the hill into the thick foliage below. Looking over at her companion, she shook her head. "Guess you were still hungry."

xxxxxx Diana jogged back over to the scared family and grabbed the mother's hands which was oddly reciprocated. She gave Diana an odd look and pulled her hands away before bowing deeply alongside the whole family. "Thank you so much," she said, her voice shaking. The halfling was a bit confused as to what was going on but accepted her thanks none the less. "It's alright," she said, trying to comfort them with a calm voice, "You're safe." The husband rose from his bow first, rummaging through his pockets for something. "I'm glad Yoshiro has good warriors like you on his side," he stated with a weak smile. Diana wasn't sure who Yoshiro was but she'd heard of him before. As long as these people were safe, she didn't really care. "Here," he said, placing a pouch into her hand and closing it before she could tell what it is. "For saving our family." Diana nodded and quickly pocketed the item. "Do you need help with anything else?" she would ask, turning to them as they began to walk back into their home. "No, thank you," answered the woman. They were all still clearly scared and dazed. The children were still crying. They would never un-see what happened today and it made Diana feel sick.

xxxxxx Diana shrugged and took the pouch out of her pocket as soon as the family was all inside. "Here, you helped," she muttered, taking the red haired man's hand and placing some of the money in the pouch into his hand. "You didn't have to. So take it," she closed his hand around the coins and began to walk off, getting on top of Pluto's back. "I'm Diana," she said, giving him a brief wave. Diana would wait a moment for him to speak if he had to before signalling Pluto to move. Something in her gut felt like she would meet him again. But she wasn't sure when. Pluto walked off down the road, his heavy paws crushing the rocky surface.

The redhead seemed to stop caring about his surroundings once he had killed the bandits’ boss, focusing again only after the girl had instructed her dog to clean up the mess. The display Pluto, the name he had overheard her referring to the beast by, made of eating the remaining corpses was both horrific and intriguing to the Fanalis. Yet he loved it. He’d have to remember to try and teach Raijin that same trick once the wolf was larger, he had to admit that it would make his own “eliminations” less messy if he were to simply feed them to his beast after all was said and done.

He would stop watching Pluto eat when the girl came over to him and placed some money in his hand. The family they had just rescued, even if unintentionally on Endolf’s part, seemed to have thanked her with a monetary reward and she seemed to feel that it was only right to share it with him as well. By now Pluto had returned, his multi-course snack finished, and the girl climbed on to his back as if he were a mount. She would address herself as Diana, to which Endolf would reply with his own name in a calm manner. After Diana would leave the redhead would approach the family himself. “I might have broken that box when I said that scum could have it. But I never said he’d get what was inside of it.”

The hand Diana hadn’t placed money in emerged from under his cloak, a small crystal figure sitting neatly in the center of his armored palm. The children who had been crying stopped and looked at his hand in disbelief before breaking out in cries of joy. Their parents would accept the figure from the warrior with gratitude, claiming that they truly were happy that Yoshiro had warriors like Endolf supporting him. The redhead would look at the couple and question them “Yoshiro is the one that abolished slavery here, right?” Their responses would confirm this and in turn Endolf would shed a small, genuine smile. “Then I guess it is lucky that he’s got people like me supporting him.”

Without another word he would pull his hood tighter around his head and depart from the small farm.
