Often, Ariel regretted those last few moments with those precious children. Especially that little girl, Lapis, a sweet child who had reality unexpectedly shoved into her face. There was something about her that he found difficult to part with. Every day, he struggled to restrain his body from drawing near to that orphanage. Sometimes he would pass by it and reach out towards it, only to recall why he had decided to leave the children at that orphanage. He would have most certaintly adopted that girl and the rest of the children, if not for a few reasons. For one, he couldn't stay in Heliohapt forever. He would have to leave Heliohapt and return to Magnostadt. He wasn't worried about anyone not permitting them to enter, what he was worried about was his parenting skills. And if he had enough room to host so many children. Well, to be fair, he had seen parents cram 5 or 6 children in one small room but going back to his parenting skills, he was pretty sure he was not ready for that kind of responsibility. Despite his strong desire to visit the children again, he was afraid they would become too attached to him again and they would not let him leave them again.
But as he turned the curve around the orphanage, the temptation was becoming stronger. It was almost as if he had become too attached to those children. He almost couldn't bear it any longer when the laughter of the children running along with their parents reached his ears. He bit his lip and clenched his hands, trying to steel himself, trying to ignore that voice in his head which was trying to convince him to turn around. He almost succeeded in ignoring it, until he heard the sound of children crying inside the orphanage. All of his constraint dissolved immediately and Ariel darted back to the orphanage. He burst through the doors, and rushed towards the heartbreaking, tearful sounds. He was met with the sight of the children huddled up together with the woman in charge, all crying. He gazed at them in surprise. Why were they all crying? As he looked at every head, he realized there was one child missing: Lapis.
"Where is Lapis?" he demanded quietly.
The children and the lady looked up to Ariel. Their eyes were dim and full of concern.
He repeated his question again.
They looked at him with mournful eyes, before the lady stood up. She told him that Lapis was gone. She had disappeared during the night. According to one of them, Lapis had been wanting to visit Magnostadt and the Plains. This was inspired by her parents, who had come from the Plains. With this information stored in his mind, Ariel decided this was his cue to leave Heliohapt.
When he walked back to the inn he was staying in, he was a very serious look on his face. It was slightly full of worry that she would get hurt somehow. After all, Lapis was not at all experienced about the real world. He planned to find Lapis and then try to keep her out of any danger. First, he needed to find her.
