Job:

Job Name: Escorting the Expecting
Job Rank: C
Job Location: Imuchakk
Job Rewards: 100 xp/7,000 Huang
Job Pre-Requisites: N/A
Job Overview: A female Imuchakk is expecting but needs to get to the midwife, who is trapped in the next village over. While escorting the expectant mother along the snowy path, she is attacked by a hungry wolf. Either defeat the wolf or give it something to eat so you can reach the midwife before the mother gives birth.

Enemy Name: Hungry Wolf
Rank: C
Needed damage to take down: C
Abilities: This starving wolf can move at 15m/s and deal C-tier damage with its teeth and claws. The wolf will attack the woman before you, but can be distracted with a chunk of meat.

Loud thump could be heard near the Frozen Ice area and people knew who was making the kind of sound, most of them only decided to ignore the sound and move away or gave sympathy to the blue haired girl by telling her to stop doing it. But the blue haired girl wouldn’t listen, she kept punching right on her father face that was covered by a thick ice. It was not an act to safe him though, it was to unleash her own anger and stress. Sometime she would use it to train herself by punching it several times like now, but she stopped herself when she sensed someone was close. The woman tilted her head to see who was it and a little surprised to find a woman who looked as pale as a ghost and seemed to be in pain. Her eyebrow raised and she decided to approach her, “Are you alright?” She asked, but the woman only grunt in pain while touching her stomach. At that moment, Lilithia eyes widened and she realized the woman was pregnant. “I…I need to go to the next village over…. The midwife…” The woman’s voice was weak but still strong enough to stand up. Lilithia clicked her tongue, hoping someone else would come here right now and help to bring her to get to the midwife as the daughter of Galavant knew that the path to where the midwife was, was not easy.

Hearing the sound of loud thumps, Vavantine turned to inspect her surroundings. She noticed an Imuchakk punching ice while another stood nearby, her face pale and twisted in pain, as she clutched at her bulging stomach. Soon enough though, the Imuchakk that was punching the ice addressed the laboring woman, asking if she was all right. Apparently she had to get to her midwife which was in the next village over. Vavantine thought for a moment, then stepped forward.

"Excuse me for my intrusion, but perhaps I could help guide you to your midwife. I couldn't help but overhear and the quickest path to the village is known to be unsafe. Two escorts are better than one." One good thing was that they wouldn't have to worry about the cold since the woman was an Imuchakk. All that was left to really worry about was the wildlife. "One of us can walk in front while the other walks behind her. That sound good?"

Lilithia pulled the laboring woman close to her as she heard a voice, it seemed innocent if she could say, but she needed to be on guard. She looked at the girl who stepped forward towards her and the woman, listening to everything she could say. She looked at the girl’s eyes, giving some thoughts about it. It was true, she couldn’t defend the woman by herself especially with the dangerous path that they must went through. With that, she nodded firmly, “I guess so… I will walk behind her.” Lilithia suggested and escorted the woman to walk closer to the young woman while slightly interested to the silver tiara on the girl’s head Is she from a royal blood…? The galavant raised her eyebrow and then gave her a warm smile before asking, “Nice tiara you have there, young miss… are you a royal?”

If the young Imuchakk female agree with Lilithia’s suggestion, then she will walk behind the laboring woman, watching her back and guard her until she could get into the next village. Lilthia adjusted her sling leather bag which had a box that contained a nice medium rare steak that she would enjoy as her lunch later after she managed to escort the woman to the midwife’s place safely. As she walked, she began to wonder about what it felt like to be a mother and remembered about her own mother that she never knew. The blue haired woman closed her eyes for a second, trying to clear her mind from such thoughts. But the more she tried to clear her mind, more thoughts crept in. She began to imagine the pregnant woman was her mother and the child she bore in her stomach was herself, wondering if her mother was very protective like that or not. Guess I’ll never know… She sighed a little and kept her guard on, ready to attack if there were any enemy.

"Sounds fine by me as long as we can get this woman to the midwife swiftly." Vavantine walked ahead about fifteen to twenty meters without another word. She didn't answer the woman's question only because she didn't even know the reason as to why a tiara was placed upon on her head. She had always worn it since childhood, or at least for as long as she could remember, and never thought about asking where it had come from. The fact that she didn't know made her feel stupid, so she couldn't muster an answer to give. Vavantine simply responded with something else. "We need to focus on getting this woman to the village. Then we can ask personal questions later if you're interested."

Luckily there was no blizzard to blind them on their journey, leaving the travelers alone with further concerns for wildlife. If they did come across trouble, they couldn't run. The laboring woman was in no shape for a chase. A fight would also be unwise since that would only delay their estimated time of arrival, whenever that was. However, Vavantine had nothing that could distract a carnivorous beast. Did the other Imuchakk have something? The girl silently prayed she did so this would go smoothly.

While she prayed, she listened to the crunching of snow beneath their feet and the silent whispers of the wind that whistled through her attentive ears. So far so good, she thought. Almost too good. Normally we would have crossed the path of something by now. Her eyes scanned the area yet detected nothing unusual. Was it her imagination, or was there another sound hidden behind the piles of snow and towering trees? Vavantine listened closely to her surroundings. Sure enough there was something else trudging through the snow but it wasn't as big as an Imuchakk. The young Imuchakk warrior unsheathed her sword for whatever was coming.

Then, as if out of nowhere, a snarling wolf leaped up from behind a giant snow-pile. Vavantine tried to intercept the creature by running forward (creating a distance of 30 m between her and the laboring woman) and swung her sword, but it leaped over the blade, ignoring her presence entirely. Her eyes widened. No... The woman.... We can't let it... She turned to look behind her to see the wolf running toward the woman. Vavantine screamed at the other escort Imuchakk, whose name she did not know. "Stop the wolf!"

“...fine.” Lilithia chuckled and let both of the Imuchakk ladies went ahead while she guarded from behind. It was not like she wanted to know more, it was just a friendly chat from her but without any actual meaning behind it. The blue haired man adjusted her hat while still walking, knowing she should not trust the young girl and the pregnant woman easily. Why? It was simple, world was not as kind as imagined, it was cruel, deceiving and broken. At least she needed to survive and in order to do that, she must not fully trusted anyone that easy. Offering help was okay, but involved deeper into a matter that wouldn’t gave her any benefit or satisfaction was not really her style. Well, her life was kind of difficult already so why bother to make it more difficult by involved in someone else’s problem? Though this kind of problem did raise her curiosity about her own mother... She then pulled her hat down a little bit to let the shadow covered her eyes.

“...”She looked around as she kept guarding the laboring woman from behind, feeling something was not normal as they walked through the icy plains. I dont see any wildlife around... strange... The wind became a little stronger, making the people who was caressed by the cold wind shivered a little by its ghostly touch. She would stop as soon as she heard a breathing sound, wild beast was the owner of that dangerous breathing and she quickly looked around, searched for the source and was planning to step closer to the woman until a wolf leaped out from nowhere, ignoring the presence of the other Imuchakk when she attempted to confront it with her blade. It was very quick and Lilithia couldnt made it in time even though she used her entire energy to run towards the laboring woman. So she reached inside her bag, taking out her lunch and throw it to the wolf before running as fast as she could towards the woman. “Stay behind me...” She commanded, her tone was cold and demanding as her gaze was fixed to the wolf who was now enjoying the steak that supposed to be her lunch. Cannot let any harm touch the lady...right...? A whip, made by her own hair was lifted up, and hit the wolf as it almost finished his meal. Once that hit, Lilithia slowly stepped back with the woman still behind her, guarding the laboring woman with her own body. The wolf then leaped up and bite Lilithia, who was using her hand to be bitten by the wolf. But the wolf quickly loosening its bite as he felt that Lilithia’s hand was very hard and cannot be bitten. She would then say to the young Imuchakk with a smile carved on her face, “Stop it while you can, young miss...”

Despite a chunk of raw meat being devoured by the ravenous wolf, it still hungered for more flesh, to feast upon. Its lips curled upward as it snarled, and its eyes glinted as it eyed the laboring woman who now trembled uncontrollably behind Lilithia. Thanks to the other Imuchakk though, the wolf was thwarted off, if only for a little bit. Plenty of time to finish it off, Vavantine thought as she raised her blade and charged.

The wolf’s attention shifted from its food to its attacker. Clearly it was not pleased to be disrupted from its meal as it lunged at the oncoming Imuchakk. Vavantine feigned to swing her blade horizontally, but at the last minute, brought her fist crashing down onto the poor, unsuspecting animal. It plummeted into the snow, creating an indent made from its own body, and stained the glistening snowflakes into crimson.

Killing was normally a last resort for the White Lotus, Vavantine, and it pained her greatly to take life when there could be other options, but there was no telling what the wolf would do if she had missed or if she managed to cripple the creature more. Life was precious and nobody should have a say on whether one deserved to live or die. Nobody should have that sort of power or authority. The young girl sheathed her sword all while looking down at her tainted hand that reeked of fresh wolf blood. She made sure her face could not be seen, for she feared that tears would overflow from their bowls and descend down her sickly ashen face, and turned swiftly on her heels to continue on their journey. “Come on. We don’t have anymore time to waste.”

The rest of the venture had passed by without anymore dangers, and they eventually reached their destination. By then, Vavantine had gotten over whatever sort of illness she may have had, looking as cheerful and pretty as she ever did with her rosy cheeks and brilliant blue eyes. “Hello!” called Vavantine. “We are looking for the midwife to this woman. She is going into labor and needs assistance right away!” A woman, plastered with the emotions of worry and relief, scurried from her abode and rushed to the laboring mother’s side. “Oh, my poor dear! We must bring you inside. Come, come.” She and the laboring woman departed into the hut that the midwife appeared from.

Some hours passed, and Vavantine was still there, waiting, but she knew not for what. The sounds of screaming had recently passed, replaced by loud pants and the glorious cries of a newborn baby. “If you’re still out here, the lady you escorted would like to speak with you briefly,” called a voice matching that of the midwifes. “We’re here, ma’am,” she said to the woman gently upon entry. “I apologize for any fright the journey may have caused you, and I hope you can forgive me.” The new mother shook her head. “No, I appreciate you and your comrade’s help. Without you, I would not be here with my newborn son.” The warrior smiled, looking down at the baby, feeling a warm sensation spread over her body. “May I?” Vavantine asked. The woman nodded, offering her son to the warrior carefully.

Life truly was a miracle. Just like this baby, she too was like this child, but years had gone by, causing her to age. It was times like these that Vavantine appreciated the jobs she did and forget the gore that had transpired in the past. Nothing could beat such a blessing. Vavantine carefully gave the child back to its mother who now rested from her hours of agonizing labor.

“She wished that I give you this as a thank you for your aid, and asks for your forgiveness if she could not give you it beforehand herself.” Vavantine shook her head as she took the money. “It’s fine. Thank you for allowing me to see new life in this world.” She then departed from the village, heading toward her own home to tell of what her day contained.
