Job Details:
Job Name: Restocking the Healing Supplies
Job Rank: B
Job Location: Reim
Job Rewards: 200 xp, 15,000 Huang
Job Prerequisites: [Reserved: Ayero/Garret]
Job Overview:
With the destruction and wounds from the prior attempts at fighting back against the Kou invasion, there has been a decided lack of medicinal herbs and poultices. A small team of 5 has been created, 3 of which to gather and carry the ingredients and the other 2, Ayero and Garret, are there to defend them against possible attack.

Enemy Name: Healing Amoeba x2
Rank: C
Needed damage to take down: C
Description: A slime-like creature which is .4 m in diameter. It has a core, which is the only 'vital organ' in its body, that is 5 cm in size. It is named due to its body's function after being killed; its means of 'decomposition' is to infuse with whatever it is touching and renew/heal the body of said creature. It is fairly difficult to extract these ingredients, as a single touch to a biological being activates its decomposition. Once gathered, its dead body is refined through an alchemical process which increases its potency.
Abilities:
The Healing Amoeba moves at 5 m/s and digests any biological materials that enter its body while living for C-Tier damage.
Harden: The Healing Amoeba defends against B-Tier damage by hardening its 5 cm large core.
Digestive Ooze: The Healing Amoeba spits out a glob of its body, anywhere between .1-5 meters in diameter (Cannot be more than its current mass), at an opponent at 15 m/s. This glob deals C-Tier damage as it digests whatever organic material that it touches before combining back with its main body.
Cell division: Once the Healing Amoeba has digested organic matter, it is able to increase its volume by using that energy as fuel for a cell division. This allows the Amoeba to heal itself of wounds so long as its core is not wounded, and increase its size to a total of 6 meters in diameter.

Enemy Name: Kou Forward Scout
Rank: B
Needed damage to take down: A
Description: A forward scout from the Kou Army, he arrives in an attempt to sabotage the group's efforts of obtaining the healing ingredients.
Abilities:
Kou Forward Scout moves at 12 m/s and uses throwing knives to deal B-Tier damage to his opponents. He also wields a B-Tier short sword which is 30 cm in length.
Piercing Kunai: A kunai is thrown at 25 m/s, dealing B-Tier damage to the opponent.
Netted Fan of knives: This net moves at 25 m/s and covers a 7 meter diameter area, causing complete immobilization for 3 posts.
Explosive Kunai: A kunai with an explosive attached is thrown at 20 m/s, exploding in a 7 meter diameter area and dealing C-Tier damage to any opponent caught within.
Reverse Blade: With blade in hand, the Kou Forward Scout slashes at an opponent at 25 m/s for B-Tier damage.
Solid Stab: The Kou Forward Scout stabs at 25 m/s with his short sword, dealing B-Tier damage to his opponent.

After a trip from Remano, the group had finally made it into the Forest of Tranquility. Though the name sounded quite peaceful, it was anything but; the monsters at the edge of the forest were nothing special, yet the deeper one went the more incredible, outlandish and dangerous they became. Their goal this time wasn't too far from the forest edge, as their primary goal was to guard the gatherers who could identify and obtain the appropriate herbs and wildlife for apothecary work.

Garret wore a very similar setup to the one he wore in his battle against Decimus, yet he was missing four key things; his face coverings, the Shakujo, his wand and his umbrella. All he was equipped with, weapon wise, was his shield and his sword. He had to make due with what little he had. Garret looked towards Ayero who was walking ahead as he took rear guard. Hmm. I wonder... She probably recognizes my weapons. Will she ask me about it, though? He had vague recollections of having seen her in other places, but those recollections were so blurred that he could not clearly recall the circumstances. The group continued trudging through the forest, Garret's senses strained to their limit to grasp any hostile movement. The two men and the woman that accompanied Ayero and Garret chatted with each other about what kind of herbs would be the most ideal to look out for.

Pausing, the woman pointed out a particular patch that had some promising foliage according to her colleagues. The patch was fairly well defended due to the density of the trees, from a strategical standpoint, and didn't require as much of a fanning of range in order to watch out from multiple angles. The result was Garret and Ayero standing closer together than their marching order. He found himself being the first to break the silence. "So. For somebody well known in the Coliseum, do you find this kind of work enjoyable?" The question was slightly awkward coming from the man, especially since he wasn't too interested in revealing who he was. He had completely forgotten the night Ariella had brought him to Azix's, and Ayero had done the same for Azix; a side effect that was particularly potent with Garret was his inability to recall the details of a drunken night. It was incredibly unlikely that Ayero would be unable to piece together the details of who he was from the meetings they have had up until this point.

Ayero headed the group as they made their way deeper into the forest, her blade unsheathed as they moved carefully through the wooded area. They’d been warned about the strange creatures lurking among the trees and rocks and took the utmost care to avoid clashing with any of them. Every so often she would stop the group with a silent gesture and look around before determining that it was safe to continue. The Fanalis woman did her best to accurately take in her surroundings, the snake twined around her body alert as well as he flicked his tongue from his mouth every so often.

Though the trip was different than the usual type of mission Octavius sent her on, Ayero took his orders seriously, partially an unconscious attempt to impress the Great General. She was not particularly thrilled in the choice of companions though—she had no qualms with the woman and two men who were to gather the medicinal plants, but she was a bit uneasy working with the other man who had been assigned to their group as a protector. Garret had given Ayero no reason to dislike him thus far, but his heritage made her a bit wary.

Something about him seemed vaguely familiar, but Ayero dismissed the thought for the time being in favor of focusing on their mission. When the other woman pointed out an area where they’d likely find what they were looking for, the Ayero looked over her shoulder and gave a short nod.

She’s a bit surprised when Garret prompts her with a question, not expecting him to make small talk. Ayero ponders for a few moments before responding, keeping her gaze focused on the forest. ”So you’ve seen my fights in the coliseum, I take it.” She comments first before answering. ”I try and help doing what I can. As for comparing this type of work with the coliseum, I’d say it’s a nice break. Though you never know what to expect.” She glances over at Garret before returning her attention to their surroundings. ”Have you had the chance to fight in the area yourself?”

Garret nodded at her question, acquesing that he had in fact seen a fight or two of hers. He listened, though his full attention was not towards the conversation; it encompassed the entire area. The group they were guarding were going about their own jobs by cultivating the herbs in a delicate manner to ensure that they held fresh for as long as possible. Should they work too fast, portions of their harvest had the potential to be useless. Garret understood that their harvesting would take some time, yet even so he felt a sense of impatience. The feeling was almost foreign to the man, who would have to occasionally wait long periods of time on a covert mission, but now that his life had been flipped upsidesdown he was unsure of what to do. Unsure of how to remain productive. It was a feeling he disliked, and he determined this was why he had asked the question to Ayero. To have some semblance of moving forward; to learn something new.

He had noted in her fight with Decimus that she had used a similar type of blade as he did, and looked to see if she still wore it today. Confirming its presence, Garret heard her mention how she felt the job they were on was a nice break before asking if he too had tried his hand in the coliseum. Giving her a side-long glance, Garret chose his response somewhat carefully. He did not want to lie to her, and then be found out at a later point. Especially because of his equipment. "Yea, I've fought there before. Though not many saw me fight.... I saw your fight against Decimus. The sword you used, I could tell its masterful quality." The magician found the blade to be sturdy due to the hits it had taken, and it was also a blade made in the style of his home country. A truly curious item. "Any chance I could admire it for a moment?"

Ayero had been satisfied with Garret’s answer, her head tilting in an absent nod as her gaze swept along the perimeter of their surroundings. The harvesting of the medicinal herbs behind them made for fitting background noise and Ayero found that her mind began to wander. In truth she was not really in the mood for idle chatter, especially when her conversation partner happened to be a Kou dog. She wondered how he came to be in this position, which people he knew and who trusted him enough to allow him to aid in Reim’s rebellion. Before her idle thoughts could branch out into something more disdainful, Garret mentioned the blade she had used for the majority of her battle against Decimus.

The mention of the weapon caused her to arch a brow, taken aback by his good eye for quality. Ayero gives him a pointed look when he asks to see the blade, but removes the weapon from her waist with a grunt regardless. The wary look does not leave her face as she unsheathes the sword to reveal a clean blade. ”You’re right about that. This thing carried me through most of the fight.” She turns it over, resting the blade flatly against the palm of her other hand. ”I took it to Raphael DiPasqua and had it patched up after the fight. The man does good work, best blacksmith in Remano.” She recalls the unpleasant yet talented man who had forged her gravity blade, Vipsania.

She draws in a breath but hesitates, thinking better of telling him that she had acquired the weapon from the body of a dead Kou soldier. Despite the fact that Garret was supporting Reim, she was aware that he could possibly take offense to her looting the body of a dead man. And she would agree, finding something dishonorable about desecrating the fallen. But she had fought against the very blade she held in her hands and could tell of its quality as steel met steel during an intense battle. After she had slain its owner, she could not let such a fine blade go to waste. ”It handles very well but it doesn’t exactly suit my style.”

His conversation partner had quieted down after he had spoke, but once he had complemented the blade she seemed to open up once again. His eye had not been wrong, having judged the blade to be of high quality. At the mention of the blacksmith Raphael's name, Garret raised an eyebrow of his own; while he was not a normal persuer of finely smithed blades, he was aware that the man was a renown individual. He had no doubt that the blade was in as-good shape from its original, if not better than how it was beforehand.

When she drew the blade from its sheathe, Garret took a close look at its craftsmenship. Nodding slowly, Garret spoke, though his voice came out in a hushed undertone. His gaze became unfocused, and he thoughtlessly praised the blade's strength. "Yes, I can see how it could handle the blows of Decimus... In his best form, I would think those strikes could normally lift one straight into the air..." His gaze quickly refocused as he realized he spoke too much, and the magician cleared his throat. "At least, that's what I hear. You know. That his blows are that strong."

Before the conversation could go further the harvesters returned from the field. "We got what we came to this clearing for, but there is still much more to collect. Let's go a bit further and see what we can find." Looking back to Ayero briefly, Garret simply said a thank you. "Thank you for showing me the blade." Bowing, he moved to the back of the group to bring up the rearguard as they continued to march in file once more.

Ocassionally they would stop at the roadside in order to gather a few herbs, roots or other such fuana, but this was never for an extended period of time. It seemed as if they had found their most bountiful resource on the first shot. Before long, however, they came to a barren clearing in the wooded area and their gatherers asked Ayero and Garret to pause. "See how the ground is barren? Look at the edge here..." The woman pointed at a fallen tree that seemed to have somehow dissolved near the base of its stump. The two men began chattering excitedly, and the woman made a hand signal to gesture silence. Looking to Ayero excitedly, the woman stepped ahead and took a peak into the clearing. "Somewhere nearby... Ah! There!" She pointed to a position near the other side of the clearing, approximately seven meters ahead, where two green blobs were slowly moving across the area. It would cross green plant life and leave nothing behind. "That's a Healing Slime! Those are used to create Potions of Good Health!" Her smile nearly split her face as she excitedly grabbed Ayero's hand and pulled her a few meters away from the clearing. Pointing to Garret, she spoke. "Hey! You! Get over here!"

Blinking in surprise, the blue magician walked forward and stood near the woman. "Listen carefully. The collection of this ingredient... I would rate it a 7/10 for difficulty. We're lucky, though. It already made a sizable clearing. When it dies, it attaches to a living object and its body... Well, it does something weird. It heals the life of any living objects it touches, which dissolves its body. That includes plants. But if you can bottle any of it up you are able to refine it and create potions that heal wounds nearly instantaneously. Now... We aren't fighters, and we can't kill them... But if you two could, we are sure to get a good amount from them. You have to aim for their core, otherwise they'll just regenerate... And be careful, their bodies are corrosive while they are alive. But be careful; even if it doesn't touch anyone, it will naturally dissolve after some time and return the nutrients in its body to the earth. We'll be right behind you once you've killed them." After explaining the situation she patted each of them on the back and nodded her head to the clearing as if to say 'go get 'em!'

Garret looked to the woman, and then to Ayero, before sighing and shrugging. The Magician drew his blade, Desceld, and his shield, Spritely Plague Shield, and advanced into the clearing. While his demeanor seemed idle, Garret was intent on the opponents before him.

Ayero

Ayero raised a brow at Garret’s remark concerning the strength of Decimus’ blows. The way the man spoke indicated that he’d felt the power of the Coliseum Legend for himself, but it could have simply been the way his sentence was worded. She was prepared to brush it off as nothing more than this when he correct himself and arched the other brow. She responds to his thanks with a quick nod before sheathing the weapon and fitting it back into the holster at her waist. A brief frown creases her lips as Garret bows, unused to the foreign gesture but shrugs it off before turning to lead the group deeper into the forest.

After a short while they would come upon a clearing, the other woman beckoning Ayero and Garret to stop for a moment. Ayero gave pause, half-turning her body towards the gatherers behind her. Healing Slime?” Ayero’s brow creased as the other woman took her by the hand and pulled her towards the clearing, calling for Garret to join them before pointing out the amoeba-like creatures as they moved along. ”So these things are what the Potions of Good Health are made from?” She never would have guessed that she had ingested slime during her battle with Decimus and the thought almost made her queasy as she took a closer look at the creatures.

Nodding toward the other woman, Ayero lets her gaze sweep briefly over Garret as he drew his sword and shield. She didn’t intent for her eyes to linger, only planning to glance at the man to ensure that he was ready. But the distinctive design of Garret’s Spritely Plague Shield caused her to pause. She knew she had seen it somewhere before, an as her attention moved to his sword her memories were stirred. Hiding her surprised behind her normally stern façade,  the Fanalis woman gripped Vipsania tightly before approaching the Healing Amoeba closest to the right.

”This should be pretty easy…my blade is long enough to strike the core.” Ayero looks down at the weapon in her hand as if to confirm its length. She approaches her intended opponent slowly, movements directed by caution as she was unsure of how hostile, if at all these creatures would be.

With a sharp intake of breath, Ayero thrusts her blade horizontally into the blob of slime, the tip of her blade aimed for the sensitive nucleus of the creature in a Fierce Jab. ”Huh?” Ayero’s blade would find it’s mark, but the amoeba had sensed the incoming damage and Hardened its core in protection. ”That felt like striking steel.” The Fanalis pulled her sword away quickly, brows knitting together in thought. She could not simply hack away at the slime, recalling that they would regenerate any damage not done to their core. As she mulled over what to do, the Healing Amoeba spat a .5 m glob of Digestive Ooze towards its assailant. Startled that the blob was now on the offense, Ayero performed a Swift Roll to the side. As she dodged the incoming slime, it landed near a mossy patch where she had been standing and began to eat away at the plant life there. Ayero watched this strange scene carefully while calculating her next move. Out of the corner of her eye she spied Garret with his own opponent, the familiar sword and shield coming to her mind once more.

”I didn’t expect to see you take on Decimus.” Her comment seemed to come out of the blue as she kept her eyes tracked to the slime as it consumed the flora around it. ”But you were right. You are strong, Crim. It was an impressive win.”

Garret moved forward just as cautiously as Ayero had, intending on striking the creature at the same time as the woman. He wondered as to its power, but he assumed that it likely wasn't too great that he needed to be worried about it. He eyed the creature and lifted his sword before performing Stream Splitter. As his blade passed through the creature's body, the creature Hardened the nucleus and kept the Magician from actually destroying it. Tch... The man jumped backwards as the creature's nucleus turned inside of it; it seemed as if it doubled as an eye. Garret raised his shield as it shot out a Digestive Ooze .2m in size, and the Magician guided it behind him. He had defended against the strike with a Simple Block and flung his arm up and over his head, directing the ooze away from the two. The Slime made its way forward just as Ayero spoke words that caused the blue Magician to freeze in place for a moment; she had recognized him.

The creature shot out another Digestive Ooze, .1m in size, which Garret dove beneath. "Please, don't say that name too loudly now." He rolled to the side and back up on his feet in time to see the ooze that had shot off towards Ayero returning to its body. "LOOK OUT!" Garret leveled his sword, using it to point at the encroaching danger. If Ayero looked, it would seem larger than what had originally shot out towards her.

”Hm…” Ayero couldn’t fault the man for not wanting his alias revealed, even in a remote place such as this. Anything she wanted to say would have been cut off by Garret’s subsequent warning. She had kept her eyes on the ball of slime as it ate away though the foliage and reacted quickly when it began moving. Ayero raised her arm in a Simple Block, directing the blob up and away from her. Her eyes narrowed as her armored arm came in contact with the mass of slime. ”Is it…larger than before?” The blob seemed undeterred by the Fanalis woman’s interception and returned to the main body of the Healing Amoeba, merging with it and increasing the overall mass of the amoeba to 0.6 m via Cell Division.

Ignoring her conversation with Garret for the moment, Ayero turned her full attention towards her target. ”Damnit, it’s getting bigger. I need to take this thing out quick.” She moves towards the amoeba once more, Vipsania held in front of her in a defensive position. The amoeba blebs several more Digestive Ooze globs from its body at the approaching Fanalis, none of which touch her skin as she Swiftly Dodges them. Sword still raised protectively in front of her, Ayero waits until the last possible moment to deliver a decisive slash down the length of the Healing Amoeba before it would have the chance to retract any of its satellite blobs.

The vicious slice from the woman’s sword shatters the nucleus of the strange creature, its gelatinous body resting limply on the ground. Once the deed was done, Ayero turned to see how the Kou man was faring against his own target.

As Garret saw the ooze going to combine back with the one Ayero was taking care of, Garret realized his was likely the same. He moved quickly, dashing to the side in time to see the ooze pass through where he was standing at before. Garret kept his distance, recalling the request to draw it away from the edge of the forest, and allowed the creature to approach the magician. As it came close, Garret struck his blade down once more on its now enlarged body with a Stream Splitter, yet the creature's Harden kept him from slaying it once more. The magician did not stop there, pulling his blade back once again and striking down with Desceld to deal a finishing blow to the creature, which simultaneously shot a portion of its Digestive Ooze at point blank, striking the magician's borg and causing damage to the Rukh's shield. He noted Ayero dispatched her 'opponent' as well and was about to turn around, expecting to see the three gatherers rushing forward to bottle up the slimes.

Before he turned he heard a male's scream of pain. Eyes wide, he rushed his turn to see the woman rushing forward towards the slimes while one of the men had fallen to the ground with a knife sticking into his leg. A glance at the other man who kneeled over his friend's side convinced the magician that it was a third party who had attacked the man; their healthy male comrade was staring in the direction they had run from. Garret's gaze followed, and he saw a man standing in the entrance of the clearing. "Shit. Tend the man's wounds!" Garret had begun running towards the new opponent, and spoke his orders to their second male gatherer; it seemed the woman was more focused on gathering the dead slime than her comrades. As he ran past the two he forced his magoi through his blade, Desceld, and sent the Gold Dragon's Blessing to the wounded ally. It would take a while for the full effects to go through, but the man would eventually recover from the wound so long as there was no poison there as well.

Garret looked to see if Ayero was following him or charging ahead. Their opponent jumped up and back a bit into the trees, and Garret followed with his Stepping Stones technique, jumping into the air and landing on a close by tree branch. Two black plague snakes appeared from his hands, twining outward and rushing towards the Kou Forward Scout. The man batted away and dispersed both violent-looking creatures with a Reverse Blade and Solid Stab, keeping the attacks from causing him harm while taking another backwards jump to another tree branch. Garret followed with the second step of his Stepping Stones, though as he landed a Piercing Kunai was thrown his way. Off-balance, the Magician managed to bring up his shield in a Simple Block, but the angling was not perfect. The Kunai ricocheted off his shield and aimed directly for his face.

His Borg flared up, though the attack gave pause to the Magician...

Ayero whirled around when one of the gatherers began to scream in pain, equally startled as the female gatherer breezed past her and Garret towards the now dead slimes. She rushed after Garret as he took off towards the injured man, slightly relieved to see that the fallen man’s wounds were not grievous. Her head tilts upwards as her eyes follow the attacker’s movements as he falls back into the trees, Garret hot on his trail. Bracing herself in a wide stance, the Fanalis watches as Kou scout deflects Garret’s attacks with his throwing knives. Sword gripped tightly in one hand, Ayero places her other hand along Kabu’s body and squeezes the snake’s body. Knowing from this that he would be needed in battle, Kabu focuses his lidded red gaze on the Kou soldier in the trees. Rearing back his head, Kabu spits a glob of poison at his target using Poison Shot.

The poison projectile would find its mark, striking the Kou scout’s leg as he was distracted with Garret. As the poison spit left Kabu’s mouth, Ayero performed a Great Leap into the air, twisting her body to execute a Protect and Sever as she neared the Kou scout. Though the snake’s poison had slowed him down, the Kou scout still had enough time to react and clash with the woman’s blade with his own Solid Stab. Ayero gritted her teeth as her strike was parried to the side, her right foot making contact with the branch a moment later. Pressing her foot down onto the branch, Ayero used the force behind it to launch herself several meters above the Kou Scout while keeping her sword raised diagonally in front of her.

Seeing the airborne woman, the Kou Scout took the opportunity to throw a Piercing Kunai her way. Ayero Parried it away from her with a quick stroke of her blade, descending upon the man to deliver a devastating slash down the length of his body. Ayero landed on the branch, the tree limb shaking under the force of her landing as the scout lost his balance from the blow to his body. The defeated man fell to the ground in a heap, the wound to his body reducing mobility and causing blood to seep out quickly. Ayero landed with both feet and one hand bracing herself on the branch, watching as the Kou Scout fell. When he appeared to me unmoving, Ayero lifted her gaze from him towards her partner. ”You alright, Barret?”

Garret had proven himself to be a fatal distraction as Ayero came in from the side and engaged the man in close-range combat. The magician did not see Kabu's poisonous attack come through, though he took note of the man's much slower movements. With the skills of a warrior that went toe-to-toe with Decimus, Ayero dispatched the Kou scout who subsequently fell to the ground. Garret whistled, impressed with the dispatch of the man. When she lifted her gaze towards Garret and asked if he were alright, albeit using the wrong name, Garret nodded. "Yea. I'll be just fine. Nice work, by the way."

He looked back towards the direction they had come from and spoke again. "We should get back to our charges and see if everything is okay now." He paused before throwing in another comment. "Oh, and it's Garret." The magician jumped down, descending from the tree, and rolling as he hit the ground in order to disperse the energy from the fall. His movements to stand back up were fluid, not quite a technique but still something he had learned from the time he spent practicing Judo. Garret jogged back to their group to find the woman with two beakers of the healing slime. The wounded man seemed to have been mostly healed up, his bleeding having stopped and his wound having closed.

Looking to Ayero, he raised a brow. "So, hopefully the trip back isn't as eventful, hmm?" He knelt down and helped the wounded man up to his feet, instructing the other gatherer to help him walk along.

”You too, thanks for the distraction.” Ayero grunted in response, watching as the magician descended skillfully from the tree while correcting her use of his name. She sheaths her blade and follows him down, mimicking his movements before standing and brushing herself off. ”It is? Ah, sorry about that.” She rubs the back of her head as she apologizes, once again following the man as they make their way back to the gatherers. Despite the dangerous turn of events, things seemed to have evened out well with the injured gather’s wound was nearly healed and the slime had been collected. A chuckle nearly escapes her lips at Garret’s comment. ”I certainly hope we don’t run into any more slime creatures.”

Thankfully things were far more quiet on the venture back to Remano, though the Fanalis still didn’t let her guard down after seeing first-hand what sort of creatures lurked in this forest. Gradually, her thoughts turned to the Kou man who she had fought alongside today. After realizing that he was indeed Crim, Ayero didn’t have much time to organize her thoughts. But now her mind went back to his victory over Decimus and she nearly shivered. Not only was he a powerful mage, but skilled with a blade as well. As they neared the edge of the forest where the less dangerous creatures, the group began to disperse slightly and Ayero fell back to pose a question to the blue mage.

”Nice work back there. By the way, would you mind if I asked how you conjured those snakes?” Her voice had a mildly curious edge to it as she kept the suspicion out of her tone, not wanting to sound accusatory. She had seen neither wand or staff on the man and wondered if he had some sort of magic tool.

Garret followed the group, and when they had broken out of the forest the tight formation he noted as Ayero fell back and asked him about the snakes. The open road was much more difficult to ambush one on, but Garret did not forget the ambush that caused him to lose his wand just a few days ago. He kept them fairly close, but not so much that they would be able to overhear the two in the back talking.

"I see... If you're that interested, I have a condition..." He smiled, amused as he recalled the time he spoke to her in the Coliseum. That time, too, he had spoken of conditions. "You must promise not to tell anyone else. Ah, I would also like for you to consider a request, but that isn't a requirement." The magician would normally not speak of his capabilities to anyone. The thing was, Ayero already knew who he was from the coliseum; she had leverage on the man that he didn't want to see her even attempt to use.

Once the Fanalis warrior confirmed the promise, Garret would nod and begin his explanation. "Manifesting those... 'snakes' if you will... Is due to a special magic obtained from risen dungeons. I hear there was one in Heliohapt, and one in Reim not too long ago as well. Actually, there was a second one even further back..." He stared up into the sky, considering his words carefully. "Anyways, the power itself ties into a primary holder and secondary holders. I am a secondary holder. I have been given the capability from another." He wasn't sure if she were curious about specifics of the power, but if she were the woman would have to ask.

"As for the request I would like to ask you to consider; would you be willing to part with the Kou blade you have? I understand that it is a blade that was used to defeat Decimus, and you may be attached to it... But if you would give it a thought, I would be willing to pay for it." The offer may have seemed out there, but the Magician was sincere in his hopes that she would do so. It seemed to be an officer's blade, but he did not see any special markings denoting itself as such. In fact, it seemed incredibly bare and non-gaudy for a blade made for a man of station.

At the mention of his explanation being conditional, Ayero tilts her head towards Garret. She too was reminded of the time they were in the coliseum holding area where she had promised to uphold Crim’s conditions should they fight. As Garret asks her to consider a request, the raises a brow before grunting in affirmation to both. The Fanalis vaguely wondered what lead this man to be so secretive of his techniques but she brushed it off as he began speaking.

She lapses into silence as Garret launches into his explanation, her head jerking upwards slightly in surprise when it is revealed that the snake conjuring ability was obtained from the power of a dungeon. She listens closely, digesting Garret’s words while questions of her own already form in her mind. So this man also held the power of a dungeon as well? Her mind strains back to her conversation with Azix in the pub, some of the details fuzzy from alcohol but recalled the important information he had given her clearly. When Garret expresses his request, the Fanalis woman considers it as promised. She remains silent for several minutes, gathering her thoughts before responding.

”I see. Might I ask…who is the King Candidate that you have chosen to follow?” The woman had recalled Azix’s words, mentioning how those who share a strong bond with a King Candidate could become part of their “household” and obtain the Djinn’s power as well. She pauses for a few moments before addressing the matter of the sword. She unconsciously wraps a hand around the blade’s scabbard as she speaks. ”As for your request…before I answer that, I must have the response to my question.”

Garret paused for a moment, partially shocked. He clenched his jaw, and the muscles in his body tightened up. She knows what a King Candidate is..? No. She also knows what a household member is. Garret had immediately put his guard up, taking a closer look at the Fanalis warrior. The tenseness from before fell away from the man's body, becoming fluid in the event he had to fight. Everything about his movements screamed to seasoned fighters that he was ready to fight at a moments notice. Though his hand fell upon his own blade in a lazy and almost thoughtless manner, he was prepared to draw it in reaction to anything to come.

Though his voice did not change overly much, there was a dangerous undertone when he spoke. "I see you're in the know, then. I'll answer your question, if you'll answer one of mine. Who and where did you learn about King Candidates from?" Garret's primary focus was upon the answer, though he was ready to engage in combat at any sudden movements that occurred. I don't have my wand... This may prove to become my death... Silently, he prepared himself for that eventuality.

Ayero had been keeping an eye out for Garret’s reaction to her words, aware that her vague knowledge concerning dungeons may come as a surprise to him. Her gaze narrows sharply at his body’s reactions, the sharp eyes of a huntress taking in the loosening of his muscles. She took note of how his hand dropped to the weapon, her own hand moving reflexively from the eastern sword at her waist to rest her wrist on the hilt of Vipsania. Her question had put both of them on alert, and Ayero’s eyes narrowed in irritation as Garret posed another question in place of answering hers.

Slowly, she begins to feel as though she shouldn’t have asked who he had chosen to follow in the first place—it was a bold question, and from what she could tell Garret tended to treat delicate information carefully. She sinks into silence for a few moments, at a loss for what to do. In an effort to make a decision, she strains to remember her previous conversations with the man as Crim—suddenly reminded of their brief conversation concerning Azix Niraj in the coliseum. Ayero fought the growl rising in her throat at the realization that this man could potentially be an enemy of Azix.

She could feel the tension in the air as she cleared her throat to speak, her body language displaying cautious hostility as she ignored his inquiry for the moment and piled yet another question on. ”Tell me sort of magic allowed you to manifest those snakes, and I will tell you how I learned of King Candidates.” Her tone was gruff and demanding and she kept her eyes on Garret, prepared to strike at the first sign of danger.

The slow movements Ayero was performing were not yet on the level of threatening, yet Garret retained his readied state as she seemed to catch on to his intentions. The tension between the Fanalis warrior and the Kou magician escalated to a new height when her own hand was placed on the hilt of her favored blade. While this interaction was taking place, the three gatherers continued to speak to each other in happy and excited tones, oblivious to the state of matters behind them. Even the man who was injured from before was laughing about some thing or another as he responded to a comment from their female counterpart.

Ayero cleared her throat and spoke, but the words she spoke were not the words he was looking for. He continued walking forward, pretending to contemplate whether or not to answer her question. He turned his head towards her, and spoke two words "Plague magic." Before the sentence was complete Garret was already drawing Desceld as he swung the blade diagonally towards her from below in an attempt to inflict a debilitating wound on her right hip. His eyes were opened wide, and his teeth clenched; both preparations for a battle ahead. He would keep careful watch of the battle, and prepare for being struck by keeping his tongue safe from being bitten off.

Despite the tension hanging in the air between them, Ayero was mildly surprised when Garret both answered her and swung his blade towards her at the same time. Ayero drew Vipsania as she jumped back reflexively, her blade catching Garret’s and intercepted its upward path. She pushes back onto the man’s sword with her own, using the force to push herself back a little further. She brings her scimitar up to defend against any incoming attack should Garret choose to continue his assault, speaking in response as she does so.

”You fight to protect Azix Niraj, I assume?” She tries to sound encouraging in her tone, her posture defensive. ”He informed me of dungeons, King Candidates and the like. Over drinks.” She hoped that Garret would find her words true and lower his blade, recognizing the battle-focused look on his face. She also hoped that she was correct in her assessment, that this man was indeed part of Azix’s household. If not, well… Her sword arm twitched as she shifted her blade, her eyes hardening a bit as she kept her gaze glued to the Kou man in order to take in his response.

As Garret's blade clashed with Ayero's, the man noted the power behind her strike. It was to be expected that she would overpower him and use the opportunity to put distance between the two. What wasn't expected were her following words, as she knew exactly who the King Candidate was that was in charge of the household Garret belonged to. Not information that was readily distributed, that was for sure.

When she explained that she was told about the King Candidates and their Households over drinks with Azix, Garret nodded slowly and put his blade away. The gatherers that were ahead of them watched with worried looks at the interaction, but they were too far away to hear the discussion. Garret changed his expression to a smile and spoke out loudly to those ahead. "Just checking out her swordsmanship, warrior to warrior!" Turning over to Ayero he added another few words that could be overheard. "You'll have to teach me that trick, some time."

It was an effort to smooth over any discomfort from those who weren't involved. In a quieter voice, Garret continued speaking to Ayero while walking forward behind the gatherers. "Sorry about that. There aren't many people who know about that power, and that knowledge is dangerous. I didn't know if you were possibly an enemy..." Garret offered an apology; while not embarrassed for his actions, nor regretful, he hoped she would understand that he felt it necessary to have done what he did as a measure of protecting Azix.

Ayero was glad when Garret sheathed his blade, waiting until the man’s weapon was returned to its scabbard before putting away her own. She exhaled slowly in relief as Garret called out to the gatherer’s ahead, their clash not going unnoticed. She would have defended herself in necessary but want to avoid any unnecessary injury. ”Of course, if you think you can handle it!” She responds in kind with a quip of her own and sends a brief reassuring smile towards the gatherers.

She nods in understanding to Garret’s words directed toward her. ”I understand. I admittedly don’t know much about it myself, but I don’t doubt that I would have acted the same way had I been in your position.” She gives the man an attempt at an encouraging half-smile, finding that she was still a bit wary around him despite things having been sorted out. She respected his ability and his apparent dedication to his King Candidate, noting that they must share a close bond for Garret to possess the power of Azix’s djinn.

”’Now, about this blade. You seem like a capable swordsman, so I’d be willing to sell it to you. It handles very well but it doesn’t quite suit my style…perhaps you can make better use of it than I.” She removes the eastern blade from her side, satisfied with selling him the weapon now that she knew he was likely not a threat to the rebellion. She holds the weapon out to him and flicks her head towards him, urging him to feel the weapon for himself.

With Ayero playing along with Garret's claim, those who were gathering the herbs and ingredients for the healing supplies turned back to their own conversations, shrugging and murmuring about whether or not that was how all fighters acted. They didn't seem very concerned at all with the outburst, which was a blessing of sorts in Garret's eyes. Ayero's forgiveness and understanding of his caution caught the man by surprise, as he was nearly certain that she would come back at him, but it seemed as if she held a high degree of respect for Azix. Hmm, I suppose I should not be surprised. If he went so far as to explain what a King Candidate was, and what a Household member was, then it would mean that she had earned his respect. I have no doubt that that respect has a high chance of being mutual...

The atmosphere changed from the tenseness from before to a more genial one, and Garret's shoulders relaxed from its forced state of readiness. She soon changed the subject back to the blade, and Garret looked towards her once more. Holding the weapon out for him to grab hold of, Garret carefully removed the blade from her hands. "Thank you." The magician's words were spoken as a means of informing Ayero he had a firm grasp on the blade and that he was now removing it from her hand. Some would say the 'thank you' was also a means of presenting respect to the individual who allowed them the opportunity to handle their blade. He inspected it closer than before, curious as to just how well it was made. When he looked back up to her, he nodded. "I'm fond of the Longquan style swords, to tell you the truth. This is a blade that fits me well... It looks like the sword was made for a common man who is of the Commander class in the Kou military... Maybe distinguished for service, or his family is rich..." He continued looking at the sword for any sign of a name or any other markings that could identify the prior owner. Garret looked back up to Ayero, explaining his prior comments. "There is no marking on the blade that would be common for a man of noble birth, yet the blade is far too good to be a foot-soldier's blade. It also stands to reason that the one to use this sword was a man of active military station due to its plain design. Commanders who do not fight are more likely to have weapons that are for showmanship only..."

He looked the blade over once more before looking up to Ayero. "I would be happy to purchase this sword. It's obviously worth a fortune, but I do not believe it is beyond my means... How much would you ask for it?" Garret truly favored the craftsmanship on the sword, and was interested in the feel of it in actual combat use.

Ayero watched carefully with a sideways as Garret inspected the swords, not necessarily believing that he’d use in against her, but she wanted to see his reaction to the weapon. The Fanalis woman was no weapon smith herself, but she’d spent enough time around blades to be able to roughly determine their quality in battle, hence why she had retrieved this sword from a fall soldier. Garret seemed to handle a sword well enough, making her wonder how thoroughly he had trained his skills in swordsmanship.

She arches a brow as Garret seems to pull information from the Kou blade while examining it and her heart beats at a quicker pace. ”He’s got a good eye…so he knows where I got it from.” The thought nearly makes her frown, but she realizes that it probably wouldn’t take a skilled blade master to determine that the weapon was of Kou origins, and it could be assumed that Kou soldiers wouldn’t go handing out high quality blades to the enemy. But if the origin of the sword bothered Garret, the man didn’t show it. At this conclusion, Ayero relaxes a little and takes a few moments to ruminate on a suitable price.

After thinking for a short while, the Fanalis opens her mouth to speak. ”Considering the repairs that have gone into it, does 120,000 Huang sound fair to you?” The sword was reliable, but she’d be willing to part with it for what she thought was a fair price. She liked that he was familiar with this particular style of blade, perhaps he’d  be able to put the weapon to full use.

Garret nodded after hearing the price given to him. The price was fair, and he was even willing to pay a slightly more amount for it than that, but if that was what Ayero wished to sell the blade for he would not argue. He handed the blade back to the Fanalis woman and looked her in the eyes.

"That's a very fair price. One that I can agree to, I might add. Though I do have a question; do you mind if I pay for it in gold coins, instead?" It was the deciding factor of whether he would be able to pay for it now, or if they would have to go back to the Inn he was staying at. It was quite a bit of money, and the magician didn't really carry those around in notes that often. Gold was easier to hide on one's person.

A flutter of excitement flashed through Garret. The blade seemed promising to him, and he looked forward to practicing with it and seeing how it handled under normal circumstances. Should I develop a 2 sword style from River Styx? He slowly rolled the idea in his mind as he awaited Ayero's response.

Ayero shrugged as she took the blade back from Garret, pleased that he thought the price was fair as well. ”I don’t mind.” The words accompanied the roll of her shoulders as she truly did not care whether he paid her in paper notes or metal coins, so long as it was the same amount. The Fanalis briefly wondered if she should have asked for more, but she was content with the agreed-upon price and the knowledge that the weapon would be owned by someone who would be able to put it to good use. Though she was still a bit wary of the Kou man, she supposed that he was rather close to Azix—someone she had a decent amount of trust and respect in—and thus didn’t mind the weapon being in Garret’s hands.

By then the group had made it to the city of Remano, with the walls showing up in the distance. Those who were gathering renewed their excited chatter and hurried onward. Chuckling at the sight, Garret turned his attention back to Ayero and reached into his left sleeve. He detached a pouch from inside, pulling it out and counting out the coins for her. Handing over the money, Garret intentionally gave her a bit extra than what she had asked. It may have been him being in a generous mood, or having valued the blade at a slightly higher price, but regardless of the reason the man would refuse any attempt at giving back change.

The magician awaited the hand-off of the blade as they made their transaction. He wanted to ask her what her relationship with Azix was, but it was getting late and there were other pressing matters with the war efforts that had to be taken care of. Maybe later... Once they arrived, Garret would part ways to report to Azix and see what needed be done next. Maybe afterwards he would search for a magic conduit to purchase in the marketplace...
