Spoiler:

It was a stormy day as tumultuous clouds billowed over the great magician's city of Magnostadt. Today was the day Yakuroro was expecting Zadi to arrive in the city as he had sent a letter to the befriended black magician a week prior. While Yakuroro still had yet to succeed in joining the Magnostadt Academy, he ended up learning a lot more about magic anyways and was hoping to share what he'd learned about gravity magic. Since Zadi was a strength magician, Yakuroro was sure that Zadi would be able to make better use of the advice the he himself ever could.

Yakuroro was at the south entrance gate of the city and sat patiently on a bench as he enjoyed listening to the sounds of the sky rumble. There Yakuroro would wait in eager anticipation of his comrade's arrival. The thundering clouds above played their symphony for the Imuchakk's ears to enjoy only for it to be interrupted with the crashing boom of an explosion. The abrupt blast was nothing like the rolling tones of lightning's crackle. Yakuroro's eyes opened and he turned to see smoke rising from the southern market. Every nearby began to notice and look when an announcement began playing through the city through sound magic.

"Attention! Magic Beasts have escaped again and the southern city is in need of help! All magician's who participate in subjugation of the failed experiments will receive a fine reward!"

In a city full of magic wielding mages, why not just leave the job to any magician that happens to be nearby? Being fully aware of the pain and suffering the rampage of the beasts was capable of causing, Yakuroro desperately wanted to go help, but he still needed to wait for his friend! The blue haired Imuchakk ground his teeth in his mouth as his eyes watched the gate for the familiar white hair of his strength magician partner. At last, when Zadi stepped through the gate Yakuroro stood from his seat at the bench and waved while calling out to him, "Ooooooooi! Zadiiiii!" The Imuchakk would smile at his friend before turning to check the view. The smoke from the explosion before was now long gone and any sign of the previous chaos had vanished as everyone knew that sooner or later some one would fell the beasts.

Taking advantage of the fact that Zadi would be unaware of the escaped beasts, Yakuroro quickly thought of a suggestion to trick Zadi into going into the southern markets. When his ally got close enough so the Imuchakk didn't have to shout he's make his move, "How was your trip? How about we head down to the southern market and grab a drink so you can tell me all about it!" Yakuroro then gestured with his hand for them to go. If Zadi accepted he'd walk with him all the way to the market where quite the violent scene would be waiting...

After Zadi arrived in Magnostadt after a LOOOONG ride on the caravan from the docks of some unknown place that has yet to be listed in the forum due to either being made up or absentmindedness, Zadi went looking around for a place to call home, temporarily of course. However, there was this one thing bothering him. There was an enormous tower in the middle of the Plains near Magnostadt. It seemed pretty ominous with its dark and obelisk like stature. Zadi just couldn’t get the image out of his head. And another strange thing…it felt magical in some way. Not like ‘oh, what a magical moment!’ but rather ‘are you also getting that funny feeling on the back of your neck?’ Stuff like that. It was just a bit of a funny feeling that Zadi just couldn’t shake. He couldn’t even shape it into a mental form either! The large tower was just there…casting a shadow over a large expense of land in such a beautiful place. One thing was for sure…other than the tower existing…the tower was dangerous. Zadi couldn’t but such danger in words or feelings…but he could tell…it was dangerous…one way or another…either mentally it would destroy something or physically pulverize…something…

Anyway, other than the tower, Zadi had a nice trip to Magnostadt. It was peaceful and the birds were chirping…that that was just the ride TO Magnostadt. Now for the real adventure…Magnostadt itself! All that Zadi had to do was find a little complex in which he could live for a short time and then find Yakuroro, his technical ‘best friend’. Yeah, Yaku was Zadi’s only real friend other than the old stranger that helped Zadi realize his potential. Wasn’t much realizing either. He pretty much just mooched of a little kid with no parents for three years. Well, anyway, Zadi put that in his past and now had to focus on his future. It wasn’t like his past would haunt him, right? Well, unless his parents came back from the dead…which was bound to NEVER happen…hopefully. They would probably be disappointed in Zadi for a few things he’s done in his life. Such things include but are not limited to taking what doesn’t belong to you such as the kimonos that were washed onto the docks and beaches and even the Gawking Heron staff, never lie such as the time that Zadi was sadistic to Lorki, and most of all…being sadistic…specifically to Lorki. That was a dark time for Zadi…he had to teach the yellow mage a lesson…

Well, the past is the past and the present is not a technical point in time. The future is what matters and striving for it is what Zadi was best at. Na! Just kidding. He sucks at setting goals. All the same though, Zadi had to get a place to live for the time being. Eventually, after a while, Zadi found a tourist spot were, well, tourist magicians who want to take tours of the city can rent a room for a night or two, and that’s all that Zadi needed…maybe. Zadi didn’t know how long Yaku needed Zadi for and how long Zadi might end up needing Yaku! It was just a big jumble of situations that needed future resolving. Now then, Zadi headed down for the Academy in search of Yaku who, since last they saw each other, was studying to become part of the Academy. Fortunately for the both of them, Zadi entered past the gates and immediately met Yakuroro the Imuchakk! Yaku seemed to have been waiting for Zadi, probably due to the letter that Zadi had sent a couple weeks ago.

However, Yaku had other plans that Zadi didn’t know about. Just before Zadi arrived, Yaku heard about an outbreak of monsters on the loose in the southern district of Magnostadt. There was smoke and everything, but everyone behaved the same, probably cause the outbreak was minor and they all knew it would be taken care of. Well, fortunately for them…it would be taken care of, hahaha! Well, Yaku invited Zadi for a drink or two down in, what do ya know…the southern district! Yeah, the monsters were last spotted there, but Zadi didn’t even know about the monsters, so he would be in for a surprise.

“Alright, let’s go! Should be fun. I get to relax after a long trip, drink my cares away…if I had any…and just chat it up with a good friend.”

Innocently enough, Zadi came along with Yaku to the southern district of Magnostadt where all the ‘action’ was taking place. And still, Zadi didn’t know any better. The two of them just kept walking and walking, hearing crashes and bangs all around. Zadi just thought it was the bustle of the city, but Yaku probably thought otherwise.

“Say, it seems extra noisy doesn’t it?”

As innocently as ever, Zadi just kept walking, waiting for a reply from his buddy Yaku. However, Yaku may or may not tell the truth until the time came to fight against these monsters that Zadi had no idea existed in the first place. If Yaku just told Zadi, maybe things would be less dangerous? Even so, it would be dangerous all the same. These beasts were not like the others that the two Magicians had faced previously. They weren’t gigantic nor were they minuscule…no…they were just big enough to keep out of sight yet still deal major damage and destruction to the city of Magnostadt. This would end up being a long day if the monsters didn’t keep going from place to place without resting. What were they made of anyway? Their mutations couldn’t have been as drastic as to make them impervious to the pain of continuous running, right? Well, perhaps. Those stupid Magnostadt Academy brats never really know what they were doing in the first place. Who knows what kind of twisted thing they must have created in order to get a measly grade from a relatively unimportant class? Or maybe they were just having fun, hahaha!

With Zadi accepting Yakuroro's proposal, the deceiving nice guy would seemingly have his way. Together he and Zadi would walk down the streets which were rather full of people heading away from the market to avoid the beast's rampaging. Yakuroro ignored them and continued onwards knowing that he and Zadi would be able to handle any threat these escaped experiments could cause. This confidence stemmed from his own training and a faith that Zadi hadn't been slacking in the magic practice department either. After all, the white haired youth was a "genuis" right? Yakuroro still remembered the first day they met on a beach. The black magician was taking a nap on a tree in the middle of the day like some kind of lazy bum. Yaku had gone to the same beach in search of sirens which had been mentioned in local lore and myth. This search lead to a misunderstanding where Zadi feared Yaku as a champion of the sea sirens. The battle of mage vs champion would eventually end in friendship rather than bloodshed and Yaku even taught the black mage a basic flight spell. Since Zadi had mastered the flight spell so fast, Yakuroro in his ignorance thought that madi the black mage better than him but in truth Zadi was far more compatible with gravity magic than Yaku.

As they got closer to the market, the sounds of the beasts going wild could be heard as the occasional scream or crashing sound in the distance. Even as Zadi pointed out everyone's strange behavior, Yakuroro continued forward without a care in the world as he nodded, "Yeah, that's probably because there are a couple monsters running around the market. Yaku said in a casual voice as if that were a normal thing. His matter-of-fact tone made it all so surreal but to anchor his decision in reality at least somewhat, Yakuroro grinned and explained, "I thought we would be able to use the reward money for taking them out to hold a feast in your honor!" Yaku said making it seem like the whole thing was being done for Zadi's sake. In a way, it truly was as Yakuroro wanted him to be high on the joy's of victory as they merrily caught up with each other's lives over fine ale and good food. It wouldn't do to have their reunion be drowned in boredom right!? "If we hurry we might be able to subdue the monsters before they destroy the bars! Hahahahaha!"

The Imuchakk didn't care how Zadi reacted to the news that there were monsters waiting for them in the market because as they turned the next corner it was too late to change their minds. The path opened up to a large plaza where countless stands and markets had been set up for trade. But no one was in sight save for a large ape-like beast with a lion's claws and mane. There was only one in sight for now and it had it's back turned to the two magicians, but they were 40ms away and neither had a spell which could reach it from here. The chimera was poking through the crushed wooden wreckage of a fish stand and was partaking in a meal to get a healthy supplement of fishy omega-3's in its diet. Ok, so maybe the beast didn't have nutritional values in mind as it gobbled up fillet after fillet, but at least it wasn't looking at them yet. "Whoooa! Would you look at how big he is!?" Yakuroro exclaimed suddenly in a loud voice.

The ears of the experimental monster twitched and it turned to see Yaku and Zadi standing there before letting our a territorial roar as a warning. "Look, I think it's greeting us!" Yaku said while feigning ignorant innocence. The beast beat it's chest and roared again before swiftly advancing on the two mages from the front at a speed of 10m/s. As the lion ape.....ape lion....apon.....liape....yes, as the great "Liape" charged Yakuroro and his companion, the blue mage smiled as he pointed his staff forwards and nudged Zadi with his other hand before winking at him. Yakuroro wanted them to both combine C-tier ranged spells to take the liape down together while the other was still nowhere to be found.

Hopefully Zadi would pull through for the Imuchakk as Yaku shouted the name of his spell, "Crackle!" causing a spike cluster of ice to form in the air in front of him. Yakuroro targeted the laipe and let the ice shard fly at the last second when the ape was a mere 10m away from the two. If his ice spike struck true, it would smash into the liapes right thigh and pierce into its flesh dealing C-tier cutting damage. If Zadi held up his side of the work, then perhaps the liape would fall before them here and now.

As Zadi’s question was answered by Yaku…all that Zadi could think of was ‘great…another monster hunt. As if the other one wasn’t proof enough that it was too much trouble…oh well…’ and stuff along those lines that are too explicit in language to be said on his forum. All the same though, they were walking to a battle without knowing what lay ahead…though Yaku seemed to have an idea. He did try to justify his reasons with some sort of thing that came out of bull…but Zadi could tell that Yaku was lying through his teeth. Though Zadi just went along with hit smiled at all the positive and funny comments that Yaku was making in such a dire time…sort of dire. Nothing was really happening right now. After some more walking, the two of them discovered one of the two beasts! Zadi was shocked at how mutated it was…and felt sorry for it. Yaku knew what to do and immediately launched a powerful attack for the large beast! Zadi followed Yaku’s lead and using his Twist spell once the beast got within range, tapping his staff on the ground.  As the beast was being hit by an uppercut, so to speak, Zadi finished things off with his Push spell, ‘hitting’ the air in order to launch the blast at the beast that ended up defeated and cold on the cobblestone and dirt.

“That was something alright…do you happen to know how many more there ar-“

Zadi was SO close to finishing his sentence when the last of the two mutated beasts came from behind Zadi and Yaku, letting them know that what they did needed to be face head on with face-to-face punishment! The beast charge for the two at 10 m/s form 10 meters away!

“Got it!”

Zadi too charge this time and burst across the ground using his Rush spell after concentrating the Rukh into pure force around his Gawking Heron staff. In case Zadi would have to dodge more than one attack, Zadi lifted himself from the ground, but only lifted, not controlled his speed which is currently 10m/s heading for the beast. The two met each other at around 8 meters from where Zadi rushed off. Hopefully Yaku would kick in after Zadi got at least one strike in. The beast swung its gigantic right fist for Zadi, but Zadi shifted his momentum towards the underside of the beast’s left arm, ducking underneath, and smashing the beast with his Blunt spell in the torso. At this point, Zadi was right next to the beast while the beast was out of breath due to the blow to the chest. Just one more C-tier’s worth of damage would knock it out cold and the mission would be done. Either which way, this mission was done and Zadi would head back for a hefty reward once Yaku did his part and finished off this monster. Poor thing…it didn’t want this to happen…but it needed to think twice before almost hurting others…

With the first liape defeated, Yakuroro twirled his staff around and then posed in a very "cloud strife" esque manner. "Still using those old spells? You're slacking Zadi! Bwahahaha!" Yakuroro chuckled heartily and listened to Zadi ask about the other escaped monsters and how many there were. Yakuroro honestly wasn't quite sure of the answer, but he'd never have a chance to answer as another beast made its presence known. Yakuroro's reaction time was slow and had Zadi not been there, he surely would have taken a blow from the beast which would have broken his bork in one hit and possibly even killed the Imuchakk.

Zadi's efforts stopped the laipe's charge and slowed its assault long enough to Yakuroro to react. His eyes flashed with the gaze of a hunter as he swiped his staff through the air creating a blade of ice. There were no hard feelings against this poor beast and like Zadi, Yakuroro didn't really take pleasure in ending their lives. But right now his friend was only inches from this massive beast. While Zadi's spells made the liape flinch, it was already recovered and raising it's clawed hand to attack the human that had injured it. "Not so fast! Glacial Arc!" Yaku shouted as his blade of ice flew through the air cutting deeply into the liap's neck almost severing its head. The great mutant fell to the floor having died almost instantly after the beheading.

With the monster slain, Yakuroro suggested they search the area for more. It wouldn't take long before an announcement was made notifying everyone that all the mutants had been dealt with. The names of those whom assisted were then called out as the area was being watched using clairvoyance magic. With their rewards in hand, the two could move on to those drinks!
